Finally married and prepping for future LO!

After a 2 year long engagement… we are finally married! With wedding planning over, I’m onto baby name planning again

What would you describe this style? Thoughts on each name? Rankings? Suggestions? Middle name suggestions?

[name_m]Gulliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Winston[/name_m]
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m]
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m]
[name_m]Linus[/name_m]
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]

Maybes:
[name_u]Alfie[/name_u]/[name_m]Alfred[/name_m]
[name_m]Abel[/name_m]
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m]
[name_m]MacArthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m]

Haha… here we go again with the boys! Here are my thoughts:

[name_m]Gulliver[/name_m] - It will always be a fairy tale name to me, and so I have a hard time seeing it on an actual person.
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] - I find it off to pronounce… and that puts me off.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - Very sweet and handsome. Works well for both child and adult.
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] - Not keen, sorry…
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] - Really like this one… I think it is still a little undiscovered/under-used.
[name_m]Felix[/name_m] - [name_u]Love[/name_u]! [name_u]Love[/name_u]!
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - Classic gentleman’s name… not my cup of tea, but still nice.
[name_m]Winston[/name_m] - Very sweet, and has an old school charm.
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m] - [name_f]Lovely[/name_f], and charming!
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] - Prefer [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] or [name_m]Maximus[/name_m].
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] - Quite like it… a little different, but not weird. Would be sweet on a baby, but solid on a man.
[name_m]Linus[/name_m] - Snoopy. Sorry!
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] - I quite like it… rather charming, and spunky in its own way.
[name_u]Alfie[/name_u]/[name_m]Alfred[/name_m] - [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] is adorable, but [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] is a butler or old man.
[name_m]Abel[/name_m] - Not my style, but perfectly usable.
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] - No, sorry… I don’t like the harsh way the syllables pronounce against each other.
[name_m]MacArthur[/name_m] - I would go with either [name_m]Mack[/name_m] or [name_m]Aurthur[/name_m]. This looks like an odd mash up.
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] - Very old fashioned to me… it will always be an old man name.

I love:

[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]

Well I’ll take a leaf out of mummacat92’s book!

[name_m]Gulliver[/name_m] - definitely out there, but not too bad in retrospect of the names that are in vogue. Gully is a cute nickname!
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] - …I struggle with this one. It’s charming at first but maybe best a middle name.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - I always have loved this name! [name_u]Theo[/name_u] or [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] for nicknames are perfect!
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] - Awesome! A fresh blast from the past that allows for [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] to come back
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] - Biblical and strong sounding. A great name!
[name_m]Felix[/name_m] - Cute and charming and popping up every where…which isn’t a problem, but its definitely in the top of the lists.
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - A name that needs to come back, and not just as a middle name!
[name_m]Winston[/name_m] - I adore this name. [name_m]Calm[/name_m] but fun!
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m] - Brings up memories of the Bugs [name_f]Bunny[/name_f] episode and the opera singer…hahaha so I can’t do it xD
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] - A slightly high and mighty name, but doable.
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] - Very cute name! Quirky
[name_m]Linus[/name_m] - The Snoopy affiliation might not ever let go of this name, but it isn’t the worst!
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] - [name_u]Unique[/name_u]! A cute boy’s name and a good man’s name.
[name_u]Alfie[/name_u]/[name_m]Alfred[/name_m] - I like it! [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] is underused and probably connected to Batman, but that isn’t so bad.
[name_m]Abel[/name_m] - I love love love this name. 100% yes!
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] - I like this name too! It’s a bit weird on the tongue at first but if you say it enough it’s easy enough.
[name_m]MacArthur[/name_m] - A bit stuffy to me…
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] - I was at first wary, but then thinking about little ‘[name_u]Wally[/name_u]’ running around made me change my mind!

Great list! Here’s a few that might spark your interest or engage some inspiration!

[name_u]Howard[/name_u]
[name_m]Archer[/name_m]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]
[name_u]Orion[/name_u]

Style wise i feel like its classic but unused. like names that you really dont hear much anymore. i love it personally. similar to my own.
[name_m]Gulliver[/name_m] - Gullivers travels. great story (i prefer the original movie to the jack black version.) and id love to see this on a child!
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] - unique. ive never heard this one before but i like it.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - love it. very classy.
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] - again really classic but it will be shortened to [name_m]Fred[/name_m] almost constantly i think and [name_m]Fred[/name_m] is rather plain.
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] it. never met one, would love too.
[name_m]Felix[/name_m] - makes me think of the cat. not really my style.
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] it! strong, but underused imo.
[name_m]Winston[/name_m] - A little too…upper class for my taste.
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m] - a agin sounds really fancy and upper class. and like a pp mentioned makes me think of the bugs bunny episode. “Its leopold!”
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] - i like it but its not my favorite.
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] - I dont know anyone named [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] but i see it a lot on here. might be relatively common now.
[name_m]Linus[/name_m] - makes me think of the peanuts character with the blankie. or [name_m]Linus[/name_m] the sandman (old christmas movie im very fond of)
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] - I like it, but its hard for me to picture on a little boy. adolescent or man sure, not so much on a baby. but thats just me. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the character [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Giles[/name_m] (from [name_f]Buffy[/name_f]) though.

So that being said i like [name_m]Gulliver[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] or [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] the best i think.

My favorites are [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], and [name_m]Frederick[/name_m].

[name_m]Leopold[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]

[name_m]Gulliver[/name_m] - too cool for a human’s first name, makes a cool middle name, though (it also sounds like gullible)

MODERN:
Modern sounding with a history of usage:
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]
[name_m]Winston[/name_m]

[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
[name_m]Victor[/name_m]

Congratulations!!

WOW!! I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] your Naming Style! More than half your Names are on my Favourites and Top 10 Lists too and I have never been able to find a clear Name for my Style either, so I’m afraid I can’t help you with that, sorry!

Here are my thoughts and rankings for each Name:

[name_m]Gulliver[/name_m] - 7/10. I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Gulliver[/name_m] as a Name but took it off my list (and took 3 points off its rating) because of the hideous meaning “glutton”! [name_m]Gulliver[/name_m] sounds feisty, fun, adventurous, courageous, and works wonderfully for any age.

[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] - 10/10! A FABULOUS Name in every way with the same feel as [name_m]Gulliver[/name_m], but a MUCH better meaning “floodtide, abundance, prosperity”! [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] also feels cheeky and cheerful and has the gorgeous Nickname [name_m]Raff[/name_m]!

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - 10/10! BRILLIANT Name, perfect for any age, with a FABULOUS meaning “gift of God”!! [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] sounds wise, kind, strong, decent, gentle, and trustworthy. Awesome Nicknames [name_u]Theo[/name_u], [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], [name_m]Teo[/name_m], Ted, etc give a light hearted, playful, relaxed feel to serious [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]!

[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] - 10/10! I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] and Nicknames [name_u]Freddy[/name_u], [name_m]Fred[/name_m], [name_m]Rick[/name_m], etc, for exactly the same reasons as [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], plus [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] is my Husband’s Nickname!

[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] - 5/10. I have EXACTLY the same issue with [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] that I did with [name_m]Gulliver[/name_m], the horribleness of its meaning! I also took two points off because I feel like [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] has the seriousness of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] but lacks their softness, gentleness and kindness, and the playful Nicknames, although I guess you could use the slightly silly Giddy, or serious [name_m]Deon[/name_m]. [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] is kind of like the grumpy Big Brother of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]!

[name_m]Felix[/name_m] - I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Felix[/name_m] (it’s in my Top 10 along with [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]/Friederich, [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]!)!! For me it has EVERYTHING: perfect for any age, wonderful meaning, playful, friendly, fun, romantic, easy to fit in Internationally with a universal pronunciation and feel!

[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - 9/10. I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] because it was my Grandfather’s Name but, therefore, it also loses just one point as I CANNOT picture it on anyone under 60! Warm, sweet and regal, with a nice meaning and Nicknames, especially our special Nickname for my Grandpa “Arpi”!

[name_m]Winston[/name_m] - 5/10. Unfortunately I can’t get past [name_m]Winston[/name_m] [name_m]Churchill[/name_m] with this Name, but would probably really like it if I knew a great [name_m]Winston[/name_m] as I love the Name [name_m]Winton[/name_m] because of the AWESOME Trumpeter [name_m]Wynton[/name_m] Marsalis!

[name_m]Leopold[/name_m] - 5/10. For no reason I can explain, I can never imagine a [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] as a real person, it just seems so ridiculously formal as a Name, but not awful at all!

[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] - 7/10. This is a groovy, chunky, supersized feeling Name! A bit too “BIG” for me to ever consider using, but I do like it!

[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] - 3/10. Really not my style, sorry. I think it just feels too modern and I really prefer Old Fashioned or timeless Names.

[name_m]Linus[/name_m] - 1/10. I love the [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] Character but, to me, [name_m]Linus[/name_m] sounds like Sinus.

[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] - 10/10! Another absolute favourite of mine! [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] is classy but also a bit goofy, energetic, fun and playful! With a great meaning and some cute Nicknames, it works terrifically for any age.

Maybes:

[name_u]Alfie[/name_u]/[name_m]Alfred[/name_m] - 7/10 / 2/10. I think [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] is terrific, though not as a stand alone Name, but [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] just makes me think of a grumpy old man, sorry! I love [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] as a Nickname for Alphaeus! Still a bit grown up sounding for anyone under 30, but that’s where gorgeous [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] comes in!

[name_m]Abel[/name_m] - 3/10. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not my style, sorry.

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] - 5/10. Not really my style but it is growing on me and has an energetic feel which I like!

[name_m]MacArthur[/name_m] - 4/10. I just can’t get past [name_m]General[/name_m] [name_m]MacArthur[/name_m], sorry.

[name_m]Walter[/name_m] - 3/10. Our Family has an ongoing joke about a Walrus called [name_m]Walter[/name_m] getting married “[name_m]Walter[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m], meet me at the altar!” etc, so that is what I think of with this Name, sorry!

Here are some of my other Top 10 favourites which you might like:

[name_m]Asher[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m]
[name_m]Anthony[/name_m]
[name_m]Matteo[/name_m]

[name_u]LOVE[/name_u]:
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] - One of my favorite names for boys! It’s a pretty “complete” name. It’s timeless but not too popular, it has great nicknames that fit both babies, boys and men! I love it!

LIKE:
[name_m]Gulliver[/name_m] - Spunky and stronger.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - Classic ([name_u]Theo[/name_u] is cute)
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] - Classy but different
[name_m]Felix[/name_m] - Short and sweet.
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - Good but seems too plain, mainly because it’s pretty common.
[name_m]Winston[/name_m] - Vintage, strong and underused.
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] - Strong (Awesome middle name)
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] - One of my favorite middles for people go by both first and middle names, like [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m])
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] - [name_u]Unique[/name_u] but with a familiar feeling!

[name_m]DON[/name_m]'T CARE FOR:
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] - Too complicated.
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m] - I prefer the simple and strong [name_m]Leo[/name_m] (or [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m]).
[name_m]Linus[/name_m] - Good for a middle.
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] - Reminds me too much of teddy bears for some reason…
[name_u]Alfie[/name_u]/[name_m]Alfred[/name_m] - It’s okay.
[name_m]Abel[/name_m] - Same as [name_m]Alfred[/name_m].
[name_m]MacArthur[/name_m] - The [name_m]Mac[/name_m]'s just doesn’t work for me.
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] - I think it’s missing something…

I agree that your naming style might be classic but underused.

[name_m]Gulliver[/name_m] - I sort of like it, but I would never use it. Sounds too much like ‘gullible’.

[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] - again, sort of like it, but I wouldn’t use it myself.

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - this one would work well for just about any age, I think. It ages well, though it isn’t my favorite.

[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] - I never really liked this until about a week ago. It’s starting to grow on me, and it also ages well. Plus, I think the nickname [name_u]Freddy[/name_u]/[name_u]Freddie[/name_u] would be adorable on a little boy.

[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] - I recently started to like this name, too. I can picture a baby named [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] as well as an adult/old man with the same name.

[name_m]Felix[/name_m] - I don’t like this name all that much, but it does age well, I think.

[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - another of the names I have recently started to like. (I especially love the nickname [name_m]Arty[/name_m] for a young boy with this name.) This used to seem like and old man name to me, but now I think it is kind of timeless, good for any age.

[name_m]Winston[/name_m] - not really my style, I agree that it does sound a bit stuck-up and stuffy.

[name_m]Leopold[/name_m] - same as [name_m]Winston[/name_m].

[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] - I like this name, but I would use it for a middle, not a first.

[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] - same as [name_m]Magnus[/name_m].

[name_m]Linus[/name_m] - never really liked this all that much. It also brings to mind the [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] ‘[name_m]Linus[/name_m]’.

[name_m]Rupert[/name_m] - like with [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], this name used to seem like something for an elderly person, but I now am beginning to like it for a little boy, as well.

[name_u]Alfie[/name_u]/[name_m]Alfred[/name_m] - [name_m]Alfred[/name_m] does seem like a name for an older person, but I think that with the nickname ‘[name_u]Alfie[/name_u]’ (or even ‘[name_u]Freddy[/name_u]/[name_u]Freddie[/name_u]’), it would work well for younger ages, although I cannot picture a boy in his late teens - mid twenties being called [name_u]Alfie[/name_u], [name_u]Freddy[/name_u], [name_m]Fred[/name_m], or [name_m]Alfred[/name_m]. It seems to me like it would only work for a little boy or a middle aged/elderly man.

[name_m]Abel[/name_m] - I don’t love this, but it is alright. Unusual, but not unknown.

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] - I never really liked this one, either. Something about it always seemed strange to me. (Plus there is Comrmac McLaggen from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], who has temper issues. Another reason why I would not name my son [name_m]Cormac[/name_m].)

[name_m]MacArthur[/name_m] - this one sounds more like a last name than a first to me.

[name_m]Walter[/name_m] - my great grandfather was named [name_m]Walter[/name_m], so I can easily picture it on a old man. I can also see it on a baby (probably because a couple I know just had a son and named him [name_m]Walter[/name_m].) I can sort of see it on a teenager, but I think that it works best on an adult.

Favorites:
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], [name_m]Rupert[/name_m], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]

Suggestions:
[name_m]Ernest[/name_m]/[name_m]Earnest[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Edgar[/name_m], [name_m]Victor[/name_m]/[name_m]Viktor[/name_m]
