I can finally announce [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], who arrived on [name_u]November[/name_u] 7th but was finally named on [name_u]December[/name_u] 28th. [name_m]Little[/name_m] brother to [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] and [name_m]Simon[/name_m].
I initially found [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] because I was looking for a “J” middle name to honor a family member. Both my name and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] are Persian, so it had a (very) subtle connection to my own name. However, as we searched and failed to find a first name we liked, [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] gradually rose to the forefront. We love the nature connection with both the gem and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] National [name_m]Park[/name_m]. We appreciate that it’s not too popular but familiar. With dark hair and eyes he also just looks like a [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] to us.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] was another frontrunner over the past several weeks (and months), but I was held back by its popularity. My husband is a professor. He solicited his students’ opinions one day (while I was still pregnant) and they all said [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. He’s been sold on the name since. I feel calmed that if [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] somehow doesn’t feel right in the weeks and months to come, we can switch to [name_u]Theo[/name_u] (although I think and hope we are completely done with this naming business).
My unsolicited advice: no name is perfect, and since most names are wearable enough, pick the one you love and don’t overthink it like I did!
Now may I never have another boy, for the simple reason that naming a third boy may kill me  Alternatively, a fourth will be [name_m]John[/name_m] or [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. Done and done.
