Finally settled on names...opinions?

So, I think hubby and I finally settled on names for our surprise baby due in February!
I’m still paranoid that I’ll overlook something and my child will hate their name.
So, for your viewing pleasure, our boy’s name:

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]. ([name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is a Gaelic name meaning little redhead, which he may be. [name_u]James[/name_u] is the name of my grandfather, uncle and brother.)

our girl’s name:

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f]. ([name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is a biblical and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] name. [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] -with the Scottish ‘O’ spelling- means “pledged to God” and [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] is [name_m]French[/name_m] for a type of wood/tree. [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] and [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] were the first names of my two grandmothers who recently passed away.)

We had a very difficult time choosing our girl’s name to go with the mns! I even posting yesterday asking for suggestions! I think these are our names, but if I’m missing anything glaringly horrid, please let me know. Naming a child is a big deal, and I want to get it right.
Our last name starts with a ‘W’ and is two-syllables.

Any Nickname suggestions for either boy or girl?

Very nice! I really like them both!
I know a [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m]. He is called [name_f]Ro[/name_f] and Roey. He is a ginger.
I love [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]! [name_f]Lydie[/name_f] is the only nickname I can think of. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] has such a nice flow. It’s great that the grandmother’s names go well together. Sometimes that can be tricky.

Thanks. It’s nice to have someone else like your names. Not that I would change them because one person hated them, but you know what I mean. First baby and I’m so nervous, so it’s nice to at least have names taken care of!
I really like [name_f]Ro[/name_f] as a nn for [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. My husband also wants to call him [name_u]Rory[/name_u] after a [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who character lol!
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] doesn’t really need a nn, but I thought one might be nice. I like [name_f]Lydie[/name_f]

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] are fine combos so I don’t think you need to be paranoid. Since this is your first child, it is important to think about what type of style you like. Often, the firstborn’s name indicates what names will be chosen for any future children. Many parents mix styles for each gender as you have done (a nature name for one gender and a more traditional name for the other gender). Judging by your thoughtful post, you’ve obviously considered that fact.

I love the choices. I think [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] work pretty well together, and the combinations are charming.

I know someone called [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] who goes by her nickname, [name_f]Liddie[/name_f]. And I think [name_u]Rory[/name_u] is a great nickname for [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]!

I think your name choices are very nice.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is better as a girls name… [name_m]Ive[/name_m] never really liked [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]…

I love your name choices! The fact that you are honoring family members makes them even more special and beautiful.

[name_f]Love[/name_f] them both! [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is a timeless, romantic, and soft name for a girl. [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is a personal favorite of mine, and I’m so excited that you’ve picked it!

I really like them! [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] seems strong and classic to me. ESPECIALLY with the redheadedness. So great.

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f], I sort of was surprised that it wasn’t [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Ysabel[/name_f] [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] because there were so many Ys! But I’m really glad it’s not. Your way looks a lot better I think.

I don’t think it requires any more critiquing as you have already been thinking on it so hard

But since you want to think of every possible thing, I’ll mention: I don’t love when a name end in a vowel and then the next begins in a vowel ([name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]), it is awkward for me to say that “uh-iz” transition. But a lot of people don’t care. AND, although I love the literary heft of [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and it is very lovely to say and write, ALLLLL I can think of is b----y, whiney, Goth [name_f]Winona[/name_f] [name_m]Rider[/name_m] as teenager [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] in Beetlejuice. Not a fan of that connection.

Thanks for your honest opinions. [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] can be used as a girl’s name, but it’s traditionally a Gaelic boys’ name, so a girl named that in our family/area would be laughed at! lol

Thanks for your opinions! I’ve never seen Beetlejuice, so that didn’t even cross my mind!

Thanks! I think [name_u]Rory[/name_u] is pretty cute as a nn for [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. and we’re huge geeks, so the [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who connotation is awesome too.

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for a boy, love [name_u]James[/name_u] for a middle. I’m not as crazy about [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], but if you love it, use it!

Great choices. I know two male Rowans – it’s a thoroughly masculine name.

[name_m]Both[/name_m] names are gorgeous! I especially love [name_f]Lydia[/name_f].

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is my name, so naturally I am adamant that it is a girls name! Nevertheless, I love it, and it always makes me smile every time I see a [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] tree and I’m sure your son will love it too. Coincidentally, I always wanted to be ginger.

I really like [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], and I think Lyddie makes an adorable nn.

Oh how funny! Ok, so forgive me if this sounds a bit strange… But I had actually noticed the boy combos in your signature on a separate thread earlier tonight, and was thinking about how handsome they sounded. I just happen to remember because we have quite a few favorites in common and they made me smile. To actually answer your question; Yes, [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] is an incredible name and I also happen to think it goes well your other boys’ choices in case that ever matters in the future. (The R, T, and G combos were my favorites.)

I remember a few of the individual girls names but not the combos, as I tend to favor boy names and happen to pay them more attention, but I like that the two middles will be honoring family members. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is very nice and I think aside from nn [name_f]Lydie[/name_f] she could also potentially go by either [name_f]Lia[/name_f] or [name_f]Dia[/name_f] if either one of those appeal to you. Congrats. =]

[name_m]Both[/name_m] combos are beautiful! I agree with a previous poster about having a bit of difficulty saying [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] though.
