Finding out gender in three days...can't agree on a boy name!!

My husband and I are finding out the gender of our first child in a few days! We’ve had a girls name picked since before we even got pregnant (in memory of a friend who passed away) but we CAN NOT agree on a name if it is a boy- which I strongly suspect it is!

I like unique, but still “real” names, a bit out of the ordinary with a ‘cool’ factor. He likes solid, traditional names (which I call ‘middle-aged accountant’ names).

Examples: (My likes) [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_m]Killian[/name_m], [name_m]Warren[/name_m], [name_u]Wade[/name_u], [name_m]Colton[/name_m]
(His likes) [name_m]Bruce[/name_m], [name_m]Gerald[/name_m], [name_m]Alfred[/name_m], [name_u]Roy[/name_u]

The middle name will be [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] (his family tradition) and last name rhymes with ‘Massman’, so I’m steering clear of any J first names, or ones with a strong “S” in the second/third syllable.

The only names we both don’t hate (but neither of us [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]) are : [name_u]Howard[/name_u] (but I will call [name_m]Ward[/name_m]), [name_m]Luke[/name_m], [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m], and [name_m]Flint[/name_m].

Any suggestions??? Please help.

I wouldn’t say that your styles are complete opposites, but it’s definitely going to be difficult to agree on a name. The names you both like seem to have a cowboy feel, so I’ll be going off of that.

I’d say your husband definitely has a taste for middle-aged accountant names. Lol!

But what about using a classic type name that has a cool/trendy nickname that you can call him?

[name_m]William[/name_m] - [name_m]Liam[/name_m]
[name_m]Christopher[/name_m] - [name_m]Topher[/name_m]
[name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] - [name_m]Link[/name_m]

[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - [name_m]Art[/name_m] or [name_m]Artie[/name_m]

My favourite on your “like” list is [name_m]Luke[/name_m] - a solid, friendly guy-next-door type of name. Here are some suggestions.

Names you may like: [name_m]Heath[/name_m], [name_u]Tate[/name_u], [name_m]Pierce[/name_m], [name_u]Blaise[/name_u], [name_m]Dalton[/name_m], [name_m]Lance[/name_m], [name_u]Sterling[/name_u], [name_m]Vaughan[/name_m], [name_m]Hugh[/name_m], [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], [name_u]Devin[/name_u], [name_u]Blake[/name_u], [name_u]Brice[/name_u]/[name_u]Bryce[/name_u], [name_m]Callum[/name_m], [name_u]Brennan[/name_u], [name_m]Conrad[/name_m], [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], [name_m]Luther[/name_m], [name_u]Corin[/name_u]

Well, it’s official! We’re having a boy!

Thank you for all the suggestions. We’ve added a few more to the “maybe” list- but of course each suggestion from you guys that I loved he was lukewarm on, and vice-versa!! We’re going to continue searching and debating until we agree on “the one”; any other ideas are always welcome

He seems drawn to names that were popular when our fathers were young. Maybe he associates them with tradition, and success, and competency? Maybe these are the qualities he’d like to project onto your son?

His names also sound very midcentury because right now the massive trend is for boys’ names to sound smooth-- lots and lots of Ns, no more tough-guy names like [name_m]Bruce[/name_m], or squashy names like [name_m]Gerald[/name_m]. You, on the other hand, love those smooth Ns!

And you like innovative and cool names, still grounded in tradition and reality.

There definitely has to be a middle ground- names that are solid but still have an edge of cool, and which fit in with the sound zeitgeist.

[name_m]Duncan[/name_m]
[name_m]Raymond[/name_m]

[name_m]Jerome[/name_m]

My favorites out of all the names are [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m], [name_u]Wade[/name_u] and [name_m]Flint[/name_m].
I think [name_u]Wade[/name_u] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] sounds the best out of the 3.
