Finding Out What We Are Having This Weekend!

So, we have a 3d ultrasound scheduled for this weekend that will tell us the gender of baby #2 due [name_u]June[/name_u] 5th. I am SO excited!

If it’s a girl we have [name_f]Cora[/name_f] picked out, as we have since before we even started a family. We went into the anatomy scan with our first having [name_f]Cora[/name_f] picked out as well, and it turned out to be a boy! After many name ‘arguments’ we agree on [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] “[name_u]Jem[/name_u]”.

We can’t for the life of us pick a boys name this time either. We both have a few we loved and can’t find much to compromise on.

Some on My list-
[name_u]Noah[/name_u]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]

Some on His list-
[name_m]Merrick[/name_m]
[name_m]Maverick[/name_m]
[name_m]McCoy[/name_m]
[name_m]Callen[/name_m]

Compromise Names-
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Levi[/name_m]
Maybe [name_u]Finley[/name_u]

We really feel sad that we have to compromise on something that we both don’t love. Though I think once we pick something we will fall in love. We’ve literally been through every name on nameberry.

I don’t like the modern feel of all of my husbands choices. I’m not sure what he doesn’t like about my names. I’m honestly easy to please. He however, is not, and the few names he does like are of course names that I don’t like.

My top choice from our compromises is [name_u]Finley[/name_u], but it’s his least favorite and would take convincing. I like [name_u]Finley[/name_u] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. I think I could also love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_m]Levi[/name_m] if they had the proper middle name. Something that ‘spices’ them up a bit without being over the top. Some thoughts were-

[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Kit[/name_u]
[name_m]Levi[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]

Something meaningful would be great as a middle. I love reading. My favorite books are to kill a mockingbird, little women, and the little house on the prairie books. We love the ocean as well, though nature names seem a bit too ‘hippy’ for us. [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is a family name after many ‘Katherines’.

To me, [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] had a [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Pan[/name_m] sort of feel. It was traditional with a modern twist. Not so common as [name_u]James[/name_u], but still perfectly recognizable. It also could fit any personality. We are looking for the same this time!

Any help would be great!

That does sound exciting! Out of the options you already have, [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is my favorite followed closely by [name_u]Finley[/name_u] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. It also has great nn potential and, if I remember correctly, you are fond of nns. [name_u]Ollie[/name_u], [name_m]Iver[/name_m], and Oki (Oh from [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_f]Ki[/name_f] from [name_u]Kit[/name_u]) are the first ones that come to mind.

I like what you have now, but some mn options that come to mind:
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m] (book connection and sea connection)
[name_m]Merlin[/name_m] (“sea fortress” and book connection)
Ingalls
Kelp
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_f]Fjord[/name_f]
Nautilus
[name_m]Brooks[/name_m]/[name_u]Brook[/name_u]
[name_m]Moor[/name_m]
[name_u]Sailor[/name_u]
Aenon
[name_u]Calder[/name_u]
[name_m]Irving[/name_m]
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]
[name_u]Murphy[/name_u]
[name_u]Wade[/name_u]

I really like [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Kit[/name_u], or you could combine two choices and go [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u]?

Lots of his names are “M” names - not sure if it’s a coincidence but could you find an “M” name that’s more your style?

[name_u]Noah[/name_u] and [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] make me think: [name_u]Micah[/name_u], [name_m]Malachi[/name_m], [name_m]Moses[/name_m], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m]/[name_m]Matteo[/name_m]/[name_m]Matthias[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m] makes me think: [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m], [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], [name_m]Marcus[/name_m], [name_m]Montgomery[/name_m]/[name_m]Monty[/name_m], [name_m]Miles[/name_m]/[name_m]Myles[/name_m]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] makes me think: [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_u]Murray[/name_u], [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m], [name_m]Morrissey[/name_m], [name_u]Murphy[/name_u], [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]

He also seems to like names with a harder sound than your very soft choices; could you find some more traditional names you like which incorporate harder sounds?

Eg. [name_m]Zackary[/name_m], [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Conrad[/name_m], [name_u]Rex[/name_u], [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_m]Josiah[/name_m], [name_m]Donovan[/name_m]…

Thank you for the (as usual) wonderful input!

I think I get frustrated becuase I’ve dreamed of names for so long. I hear of babies named [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], and I just wish I could choose something equally as dreamy! [name_m]Alas[/name_m], I can’t seem to find anything that my husband approves of that makes me swoon (for boys, that is.)

I’ve suggested every ‘m’ name on nameberry, and many of the ‘hard sound’ names you mentioned as well. It seems to be association that is his biggest downfall. I think he likes the names he likes because they al in one way or another remind him of something to do with surfing, or another activity/person he finds of interest. I think I have to come to terms with the fact that we probably won’t be finding an other names than the ones we’ve chosen!

I do love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. Though the ‘kit’ part may take some convincing. I also love the idea of middle name [name_u]Frost[/name_u] (favorite poet) but it may be a little too ‘out there’.

YAY babylove, can’t wait to hear what you are having! I actually really like your compromise names the best! I think [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] and [name_u]Jem[/name_u] are adorable together, and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is too cute. I think my favorite is [name_m]Levi[/name_m], though. It’s one of those names to me, that make anyone instantly cooler, haha. I don’t know why. I like [name_m]Levi[/name_m] and [name_u]Jem[/name_u] together, as well. And [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is just so neat! It sounds distinguished yet rambunctious at the same time!

Of your other names, I think [name_m]Callen[/name_m] is awesome because I adore the nickname [name_u]Cal[/name_u]. [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] is neat, too. I’ve never met a [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] and would swoon if I ever did! [name_m]Julian[/name_m] is handsome as well as [name_m]Gideon[/name_m].

That probably didn’t help at all, but you have some GREAT choices! Now all you have to do is agree (HA! Easier said than done, right?!)

Aww thanks!! @meyera!

I agree that [name_m]Levi[/name_m] seems to have that ‘cool’ factor. [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] seems more sweet than ‘cool.’ The only thing holding me back from [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is that my mom says it’s a dogs name! I can’t seem to get that out of my head. No one has any complaints about [name_m]Levi[/name_m] though.

My issue with [name_m]Callen[/name_m] was that, to me, it blends in with [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], [name_m]Keller[/name_m], [name_m]Callum[/name_m], [name_m]Kellen[/name_m], etc.- the whole c/k trend. Though i do really love [name_u]Cal[/name_u]. And I really do love [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] but it doesn’t seem to flow well enough with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] to me. And the only nickname I can see using is ‘merry’ which is so feminine.

Sigh…

Yeah, I see what you’re saying about [name_m]Callen[/name_m]. It does kind of get lost in all those names. I don’t actually know many kids with those names but if they do get more popular it could get lost in the crowd, I suppose. And you’re right, [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] just doesn’t have any good nicknames, so you’d have to pretty much commit to using the full name. (Though I did that with [name_m]Konrad[/name_m] and still end up calling him “Kon” sometimes…so maybe just “Mer?” But then that reminds me of the girl [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]'s that I know)
I [name_m]DON[/name_m]'T see what your mom says about [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], haha! She must have met a couple dogs named [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] but I haven’t! It actually makes me think more “cat” because of the Disney movie [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and Company, but that’s not my first association (though that movie is just adorable and made me love the name [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] as a kid!). Unfortunately, I think she’ll either have to get over it, or you’ll have to accept that she may feel that way…for a while at least. Honestly, some of my friends dog’s have the BEST names

[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] [name_u]Barret[/name_u]

So many great names! My favs:

[name_m]Levi[/name_m]
[name_m]Callan[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]

Thanks everyone! Looks like we are probably down to [name_m]Levi[/name_m] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].

I would love [name_m]Callen[/name_m], but we do know a lot of boys with similar names. [name_m]Kellen[/name_m], [name_m]Keller[/name_m], [name_u]Kade[/name_u], to name a few. I guess we could get [name_u]Ricky[/name_u] out of [name_m]Merrick[/name_m].

With [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] you could always use the nn [name_f]Merri[/name_f]! I wouldn’t worry about your mom’s dog association to [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] (I have a slight cat one like Meyera), but a lot of dogs have people names and I don’t think that takes anything away from the name.

Some surfing ones (from here):
Carving
Bonzer
Glasser
Gusset
Macking
Paipo

[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is the winner!!

I really love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] and think it may be your best best ([name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is certainly not a dog name in my eyes btw). Here are some names that [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] makes me think of…

Well, it looks like we are having a girl!!! I am SO shocked!

Went into OB today to follow up on my placenta previa and she did a quick ultrasound. Asked if we would be finding out what we are having. When we said yes, she said it was still early but she is pretty sure it’s a girl! Nothing between those legs!! We have a 3d gender ultrasound in two days to double check but she was pretty sure!!

I really wanted a girl, but always pictured myself as a ‘boy’ mom! So I was incredibly surprised!! Looks like we will be having a little [name_f]Cora[/name_f]!

Congratulations! [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is beautiful!!

Congrats! [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is lovely and fits perfect with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] “[name_u]Jem[/name_u]”.
