Buoyed up* ( ) by your marvellous suggestions on my girl’s name thread and just generally giddy that tonight I got to write about [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and Idabecca for the first time, I decided to make my boy’s thread.

With the boys my problem is vastly different. Unlike the girlies, I have no trouble loving tons of boy names - as evidenced by my list of possible first names - however I still fail at coming up with fresh combinations and would love to hear more suggestions as to new names I might like. [name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to comment on the names too if that tickles your fancy but there’re a lot so don’t feel like you have to.

Rules are the same as with the girls. I have simple tastes (read ‘am exceptionally picky’) and my criteria runs thusly. The name must be: a legitimate name, spelt correctly, not a surname** and not a word/place name. I’m open to names from any culture and tend to like the unusual and old fashioned.

[name_m]Casimir[/name_m] - I like this name as I like [name_m]Casper[/name_m] and [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] so this name is reminscent of them but at the same time being more distinct

[name_m]Horatio[/name_m] - I actually love this name… and this may be just me but I always think of that redhead with the sunglasses and his oneliner (before it cuts to commercial) on csi miami (I like this association because he makes me laugh)

[name_u]Arlo[/name_u] - A nice name, I just never jumped on the [name_u]Arlo[/name_u]-train. But it’s nice.
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] - I think it’s a fine fine name, very strong and sturdy. And I know it’s not for the TKAMB character, which makes it even better.

Regarding [name_u]August[/name_u], I came up with Gusto because the ‘[name_u]Gus[/name_u]’ nickname always put me off [name_u]August[/name_u]. I think the same thing would happen with [name_m]Gustav[/name_m] unfortunately

Regarding [name_m]Horatio[/name_m], yes it is partly My great grandfather and his brother were named [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Nelson[/name_m] and [name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_m]Napoleon[/name_m] So [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] is a nod to [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Nelson[/name_m].
[name_m]Tulio[/name_m] I’ve loved since watching ‘The Road to [name_f]El[/name_f] Dorado’, tee. If animated characters were real… sigh.
The spelling of Dickon is unfortunate but it makes me think of ‘The [name_f]Secret[/name_f] Garden’ which I loved when I was little.
I don’t why but I just see ‘boy’ when I think of [name_f]Sora[/name_f]. Unfathomable really as you’re right, it does have quite a soft sound.

Woohoo, some wonderful names here! We have a lot shared loves in boys but not in girls, have you seen my Lads thread? I just thought there may be a few names you will like, all better than suggestions from the top of my head.
So, to start, my very very very favorite is Gratian. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you mind me asking where did you find it? It had been a huge love of mine for years(until the 2013 summer because my tastes changed dramatically), and very secret one. Everyone who was told I like it thought I am mad, haha.

[I’d be honest and say I hope(I am almost sure, but not entirely) you have heard Slavic pronunciations of Arkadiy and [name_m]Vasiliy[/name_m] because, seriously, they are different from any others existing. Personally, I use the Russian one for both(not Ukrainian because I learned to speak Russian firstly so I know it much better and think in Russian), I find it the most beautiful of all(I have heard [name_m]French[/name_m] and American also)and would expect everybody who is considering the names to use Russian too. I heard an absolutely excellent (repeating the word millionth time, Russian) pronunciation of Georgiy today, Italian man speaking and it was so pleasantly surprising.]
Also, I just had a delicious idea: make [name_u]Sascha[/name_u] a nickname for [name_m]Alasdair[/name_m]. Unexpected, I suppose, and fun.
P.S. I know I might seem very weird/strange but I am sleepy and tired right now so it can be the reason, I hope I didn’t come out as rude or familiar.
