Finley questions

I’ve recentely fallen for the name [name]Finley[/name]…I [name]LOVE[/name] it! What are your thoughts on it? Also, I’m a bit concerned with how common it is used on girls. I was looking up the popularity of [name]Finley[/name], only to discover it is used on girls…what the heck?! I mean I figured there were some girls with this name, but I never realized it was that popular. It doesn’t even sound girly at all (to me atleast). Would the popularity of this name on girls keep you from using it on a boy? Also, any middle name suggestions? I want something clearly masculine, but maybe not too common, I’m not totally sure. I kind of like [name]Finley[/name] [name]Jasper[/name], but I’m not too sure on that. Thanks!

I was going to suggest [name]Finley[/name] [name]James[/name] as being definitely masculine, but I’ve seen [name]James[/name] as a middle name for girls now too. [name]Finley[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] is very masculine. I like [name]Finley[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] too. I think it is rare enough for a girl that it could still work for a boy. My husband’s name is [name]Jordan[/name] and he was in a youth group with a female [name]Jordan[/name], and it never caused him any problems. I think some names really can go both ways. Especially if he has a nn like [name]Finn[/name] that is more boyish.

I absolutely love [name]Finley[/name] for a boy! I think it’s so quirky and handsome. It does bother me that [name]Finley[/name] is slightly more popular for girls but I just don’t understand it at all! Funny enough, I belong to two naming forums, and the other one, which is much less name-lover inspired (parentsconnect), has never brought up [name]Finley[/name] on a girl (or at least, wanting to use [name]Finley[/name] on a girl), while Nameberry is much more focused to the name lover and I’ve seen several people considering [name]Finley[/name] here. To me, it is still completely masculine and I think you could use nns like [name]Finn[/name], [name]Flynn[/name], or even [name]Leo[/name] (which might be a bit of a stretch). If you are bugged by the “unisex” connection, what about [name]Finnegan[/name], [name]Finnian[/name], or [name]Phineas[/name]? Or even [name]Griffin[/name]? You could still get the nn [name]Finn[/name] but they’re all 100% boy.

I would still use it–I think a lot of people still see it as 100% masculine. I don’t love it like I used to, but I used to have [name]Finley[/name] [name]Joshua[/name]/[name]Finley[/name] [name]Joshua[/name] [name]David[/name] on my list. I still really like [name]Finley[/name] [name]Joshua[/name]! [name]Finley[/name] [name]Jasper[/name] is handsome, too.

What about:

[name]Finley[/name] [name]Caleb[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Elias[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Jacob[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Jack[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Patrick[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]August[/name]
[name]Finley[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name]

Good luck!

I only know a girl [name]Finley[/name] so think of it as a girls name. I love [name]Finnegan[/name] nn [name]Finn[/name].
