Finley? Too popular?

Hello Nameberries
I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Finley[/name] for a boy… but I’m worried about it being too popular? I live in the uk, and I haven’t heard any round my way yet, but it might be popular without me realising it?
Anyone else heard it a round a lot? Especially in the UK?
Thanks a lot!

=) xoxo

I’m in the UK, and I’ve not encountered a [name]Finley[/name]. But [name]Finley[/name] ranked #35 on the [name]England[/name]/[name]Wales[/name] statistics for 2010. Popularity for the name Finley - Behind the Name
But it’s worth remembering that naming is more varied than ever - whatever’s #35 these days isn’t as popular as what was #35 twenty years ago.

In the US, it’s unisex. Slightly more popular for girls over there.

Thank you!
Although, 35 seems quite high, but I haven’t heard of anyone being called it. And, the names change greatly these days, as you said.
I really do love that name! Another name I love is [name]Logan[/name], again for a boy, but I know that one is popular. I’ve known about 3 so far, and heard boys and girls being called it. It’s such a shame, I’ve loved it for so long! =(

[name]Finley[/name] and [name]Logan[/name] are unisex, which can be annoying, but look on the bright side: as it is unisex, it will continue to be used on boys. There’s a difference between a unisex name ([name]Logan[/name], [name]Riley[/name], [name]Finley[/name], [name]Skyler[/name]) and a name that suddenly went completely to the girl’s side overnight ([name]Madison[/name], [name]Avery[/name], [name]Meredith[/name], [name]Vivian[/name].)

[name]Ah[/name], true =)
it’s bizarre, but finley seems such a boys name to me, as does [name]Logan[/name]. On a girl, to me, it doesn’t seem quite right, although I;m sure the girls rock those names! but [name]Lilly[/name] seems more feminine to me than [name]Logan[/name] on a girl… but thats just my opinion of course!
And I still think the boys rock names like [name]Riley[/name], [name]Finley[/name], [name]Logan[/name] and don’t have any teasing.
[name]Lacy[/name], or [name]Stacy[/name], on the other hand, although they were boys first, I cant imagine them on a boy now!! they are definately girly to me…

Yes, I was very surprised when I learned [name]Logan[/name] was unisex. By the time I learned [name]Finley[/name] was unisex, I had learned [name]HUNTER[/name] was unisex, so that didn’t shock me. (Can’t see a girl named [name]Hunter[/name] at all! I’m pretty sure that a female hunter is called a huntress anyway!)

[name]Logan[/name] probably became unisex because of its final syllable, which is that of [name]Megan[/name].

Not too popular at all, but definitely too trendy. Like the blog post they did this week about the difference between popular and trendy. I know a girl named [name]Finley[/name], a very unisex name it is.

I don’t really know about popularity in the UK, but I do think [name]Finley[/name]/[name]Finlay[/name] is a great name! I would love to meet one. I don’t know if it matters, but I have a few friends in the UK, and only one of them knows a [name]Finley[/name] personally, and it was a girl–spelled [name]Finleigh[/name].

I think [name]Finley[/name] is great, though, and I think [name]Kyan[/name] and [name]Finley[/name] would be really cute together.

Good luck!

[name]Hunter[/name] is another one I love! but again, to me, it’s definately a boys name, very masculine too… a girl would be a Huntress, although I would consider it as a mn for a girl, deff fn for a boy… see, im just old fashioned I suppose.
I dont think [name]Finley[/name] is tooooo trendy, I think its better than the -aden bunch. Although, I love [name]Aidan[/name] and [name]Jayden[/name] etc and have nothing against them, but the aden ending is everywhere it seems. So [name]Finley[/name] doesnt sound too overused like that… and again, [name]Kyan[/name] and [name]Finley[/name] sound nice to me =) and I suppose [name]Kyan[/name] is trendy anyway, as its with a K, which some people love or hate lol so they can be trendy together lol!
I like unisex names, and can see why they are unisex names… and both sexes can totally OWN them names, but some names lean more towards the boys, other girls… like [name]Logan[/name] and [name]Finley[/name] are boys, but [name]Skyler[/name] is more girly to me, esp [name]Skylar[/name] spelling. [name]Riley[/name], Boy. [name]Harley[/name] I like for both sexes though. It sounds soft for a girl, but [name]Harley[/name] Davidsons motorbikes make it ok for a boy to me, cause of the biker boy image. I guess that’s just me! lol xo

And thank you berries, for all your opinions and advice, I love reading them! And you all really help me! =)
