I love [name_u]Finn[/name_u]! Out of your list I like [name_u]Finn[/name_u] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], but it doesn’t sound like you’re sold on [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]?
Longer versions for [name_u]Finn[/name_u]:
[name_m]Phineas[/name_m] (Phinn)
Finnius
[name_m]Finnick[/name_m]
[name_u]Finley[/name_u]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]
[name_u]Finley[/name_u], which isn’t an option. I like Meirion from your list. [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] and [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] are some of my favorite Welsh boy’s names.
I had trouble choosing. I liked [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] most out of the fns, but wasn’t as keen on middle [name_u]Douglas[/name_u]. Ultimately I liked the combo of [name_u]Finn[/name_u] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] best.
Why not [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u]? My favorite of your choices would be [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m]
I love all three! [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] [name_u]Douglas[/name_u] is so handsome and distinctive, though.
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] is the best combination but I love [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] too - [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] [name_m]Griffith[/name_m] will be a good combination too and I like the suggestion of [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u] - some combinations from me
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] [name_m]Andreas[/name_m]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] [name_u]Cai[/name_u]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] [name_m]Caio[/name_m]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] [name_u]Elis[/name_u]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] [name_m]Emyr[/name_m]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] [name_m]Iago[/name_m]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] [name_m]Llyr[/name_m]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] Maelor
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] [name_m]Osian[/name_m]
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]
I really prefer [name_u]Finn[/name_u] as its own name without a longer form. It’s a first name with its own history and using it as a nickname seems too trendy to me. [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] has history but is pretty funky to American ears. For combos I like [name_u]Finn[/name_u] Meirion! [name_u]Finn[/name_u] [name_m]Bryant[/name_m] also works but is less exciting. Are there any female family names you can use a masculine form of?
It’s got to be [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m]! I really love it — this spelling is my favourite too. That double r is so rough and rugged, super cool.
[name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] Meirion would be my pick — both fantastic names! But I do really like [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] [name_u]Douglas[/name_u] too.
Have you considered [name_m]Finlo[/name_m]/Finnlo? A fabulous Manx name relating to the Celtic sun god Lugh.
[name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] or [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] Meirion would be beautiful! For me they are both evocative of rugged cliffs, treasure and stories of smugglers.
My favourite combo of yours is [name_u]Finn[/name_u] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], however my favourite [name_u]Finn[/name_u] name is actually [name_m]Finnian[/name_m]. I like the combos [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] or [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], as well as [name_u]Finn[/name_u] Meirion or [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] Meirion. Whatever [name_u]Finn[/name_u] name you decide on you can’t go wrong.
[name_m]Finnick[/name_m] is my favorite of the Finns, but since it wasn’t on your list, I voted for finegin. Also love the suggestion of [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u]
Thanks for sharing your thoughts everyone!
Of the [name_u]Finn[/name_u] names, these are the only three I really like. Well, except for [name_m]Finnick[/name_m], which I kind of love but there is no way my husband would consider because it’s too Hunger Games. And while I appreciate the idea of [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u], a family name is [name_m]Griffith[/name_m], and [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] just seems lackluster in comparison and I’m unwilling to compromise.
I’m loving the love here for [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m]. @wandsworth, I think you championed it on a previous post of mine too, which I appreciate! @katinka, I laughed when you called the double r “rough and rugged”, and @kew I loved the imagery you shared about rugged cliffs and smugglers! I tend to think [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] as more sensitive and bookish, and he is the king of the fairies, but you showed me there are other possibilities. I think my husband has a wee bit of hesitation for [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] only because he has a friend named [name_m]Callum[/name_m] (which is our first son’s name, though not after said friend) and [name_m]Callum[/name_m]’s brother is [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m]! He’s joked I should call the elder [name_m]Callum[/name_m]’s parents and ask permission before stealing their names.
I also appreciate the votes for [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and keeping [name_u]Finn[/name_u] as just [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. I have a feeling that unless I get a strong sway toward [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] or [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] that we’ll stick to [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. It’s finding a middle for [name_u]Finn[/name_u] that I love that’s challenging!
So I appreciate the alternative middles people have proposed. Being added to the possibilities are:
[name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] [name_m]Griffith[/name_m] (thanks @elifsu)
[name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] Meirion (thanks @katinka and @kew)
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] Meirion (thanks @sarah1800 and @lulu82)—I’ve hesitated on this combo up until now only because if I say them together, it sounds a bit like a character from [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings—vert mysterious, possibly too exotic?)
I’ll keep looking for more middles, but I suspect this is a personal voyage. (To answer your question, @sarah1800, Meirion is actual a unisex name for my family and would honor my Grandmother who I was very close to. It was my Great-grandfather’s middle name, named after Merionethshire, [name_m]Wales[/name_m], where he was born. He immigrated to [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and then the US and gave his first two children Meirion as their middles (including my Grandmother) and their third child they named Meiriona. Their last name was [name_m]Jones[/name_m], which I probably wouldn’t use, and their mother’s maiden name was Moir, which I’d consider, though probably not with [name_u]Finn[/name_u] because they’re both short names. My Grandmother was [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], but I’m not a fan of [name_f]Winfred[/name_f] or [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]. [name_u]Win[/name_u] or [name_u]Wyn[/name_u] would be okay, just, again, not with [name_u]Finn[/name_u].)
[name_m]Just[/name_m] came back to add that if [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] Meirion had been a poll option that would have definitely gotten my vote!
For me the two things go together - [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] mixes sensitivity and intrepidness in the backdrop of a beautiful and poetic landscape. It’s a really lovely name - I don’t think you can do better.
As for having friends called [name_m]Callum[/name_m] and [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m], you could always ask them what they think - I’m sure they would be pleased rather than anything else.
Good luck!
My favorite of the [name_u]Finn[/name_u] names is [name_m]Fintan[/name_m], though I rarely see it used.
I like [name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] [name_u]Douglas[/name_u] best.
[name_m]Finbarr[/name_m] [name_u]Douglas[/name_u] is so handsome!
