Finn for a girl?

[name_u]Finn[/name_u] has been on our boys list for awhile now, but we’re both kind of liking it for a girl too!

In your opinion, can [name_u]Finn[/name_u] work as a girls name?

Our other top favorites at the moment are [name_u]Scout[/name_u], [name_f]Nola[/name_f] & [name_u]Bay[/name_u]!

I think so! It’s a cute name. Would you use it as a nickname for something longer? Like [name_f]Finola[/name_f]? Either way it works!

I think so too! [name_u]Finn[/name_u] as a standalone seems fine, but [name_u]Finley[/name_u] would also be lovely on a girl.

Good luck

I have [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_u]Finley[/name_u] on my list for a girl! Namely [name_u]Finn[/name_u] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and [name_u]Finley[/name_u] [name_f]Arabella[/name_f]. I think it works beautifully and there are lots of historically girl names that have [name_m]Fin[/name_m] in them, Fionualla ([name_u]Finn[/name_u]-ula) or Fionella ([name_u]Finn[/name_u]-ella) for example.

I love both [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_u]Finley[/name_u]

I think the problem with [name_u]Finn[/name_u] on a girl is how everyone would expect a boy when reading or hearing [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. It’s also on trend for boys atm while it’s not popular at all for girls.
I don’t think it would matter as much if your other daughter was named [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] or [name_u]James[/name_u] but as [name_u]Piper[/name_u] is almost exclusively used as a girls’ name, I’d be hesitant to give her sister such a masculine name.

While it could technically work on a girl, it’d be kind of annoying having everyone think she was a boy when they heard their name. I second the suggestion of [name_f]Finula[/name_f], it’s a great longer form. Names like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] etc could also have the nickname Phin/[name_u]Finn[/name_u]

Rather than giving a girl an inherently masculine name, I would suggest using a legitimately feminine Irish name with a similar spunky feel, such as Léan, Eadan or [name_f]Niamh[/name_f].

Or, you could use [name_u]Finn[/name_u] as a nickname for a name such as [name_f]Finola[/name_f] or Finnore, or even [name_f]Fiona[/name_f].

I like [name_u]Finn[/name_u] as a nickname for a girl

I prefer it on a boy, along with Finley. I would be expecting to see a boy, not a girl, with the name. I like Nola and Bay from your list and I like the other suggestions of using Fin as a nickname. Since you like Finn and Nola there is Fionola.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Finola[/name_f] and [name_u]Finley[/name_u] is cute too

I love [name_u]Finn[/name_u] for a girl!!

I think it would work for a girl.

[name_u]Finn[/name_u] is the name of a girl who is the main character in a book called Tree of Ages (by [name_f]Sara[/name_f] C. Roethle). It’s not a well known book, but ever since I read it I’ve seen [name_u]Finn[/name_u] as equally likely to be male as female.

In my opinion, [name_u]Finn[/name_u] for a girl doesn’t work. I don’t even like it for a boy…reminds me of fish. Not that fish are a bad thing, it’s just [name_u]Finn[/name_u] reminds me of part of their anatomy…

I love gender-neutral names, but I’m not sure about [name_u]Finn[/name_u] for a girl. Looks like I’m in the minority, though!

i like it as a nickname for [name_f]Finola[/name_f] or Finnoula but not as a standalone name

I know several [name_u]Finley[/name_u]’s nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u] in the toddler aged group! Definitely.

As a nickname, I think it absolutely could work!
