One of the POV characters in one of my WIPs needs a name, and I cannot settle on one. They are a gender fluid fire sprite, and are working for the faerie courts to find their lost queen.
I have went through so many names for them I cannot tell you. They’ve been [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], Vervain, [name_m]Valerian[/name_m], [name_u]Logan[/name_u], [name_m]Cian[/name_m], [name_m]Cillian[/name_m], Lopti, [name_m]Frey[/name_m], [name_u]Gray[/name_u], Vivek, [name_m]Seraphim[/name_m], [name_m]Serafin[/name_m], [name_u]Fionn[/name_u], [name_m]Vasili[/name_m], [name_f]Vermillion[/name_f], [name_u]Valentine[/name_u], [name_f]Zella[/name_f], the list feels pretty much endless, but nothing is right for them.
[name_f]My[/name_f] criteria is this;
can’t sound similar to either of my other POV characters, [name_f]Ailis[/name_f] and [name_f]Briony[/name_f]
can’t be a nature name
can’t come from real world religions and/or mythologys
has to sound unisex
being fire related and/or starting with a V would be a plus, but not necessary
Honestly all suggestions you might have would be so much appreciated. I’m also looking for a name for their male partner, but that is an awful lot less important as he’s a fairly minor character.
Thanks! I like [name_u]Veryan[/name_u] and [name_u]Vrai[/name_u] a lot. I like [name_m]Vulcan[/name_m] and [name_f]Vesta[/name_f] too, but they’re the name of a roman god (of fire, incidentally) and goddess.
This may not be what your looking for, but Flicker is what immediately came to mind. I think it fits the fiery and unisex theme. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] it helps.
Azar - Iranian name meaning fire
[name_m]Conley[/name_m] - Irish name meaning ‘purifying fire’
[name_u]Keegan[/name_u] - Irish name meaning fire
I also thought of [name_f]Valkyrie[/name_f]. I don’t know if you would consider it since it’s from Norse mythology, but it starts with V and definitely sounds like a fighter’s name.
I like [name_f]Azar[/name_f] and [name_m]Conley[/name_m]! I get where you’re coming from with [name_f]Valkyrie[/name_f], it’s just seems so feminine to me. (and also one of my other WIPs is a norse mythology retelling, so it’s too tied to that to me).
