Personally, this has never really bothered me. I actually kind of like it… but may be alone on this. Would it be a big deal to name a child ‘[name]Asher[/name]’ with a last name of ‘[name]Anderson[/name]’?
[name]One[/name] of my all time favorite girls names was [name]Anna[/name], and some people commented that [name]Anna[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] would be way too close, too.
Not sure why, but have always felt drawn to these similar sounds, i.e. [name]Asher[/name] [name]Anderson[/name], [name]Adam[/name] [name]Anderson[/name], [name]Anna[/name] [name]Anderson[/name], [name]Abram[/name] [name]Anderson[/name], etc…
I agree with the pp. [name]Asher[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] isn’t so bad to me because the only thing similar is the A, but [name]Anna[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] is just not good to me. They both have the [name]Ann[/name] sound. It sounds like naming some one [name]Jack[/name] [name]Jackson[/name] or [name]John[/name] [name]Johnson[/name] [name]IMO[/name].
It would be better to have a name with [name]Ann[/name] in it somewhere and call her [name]Anna[/name] [name]IMO[/name]. But, like I said, [name]Abram[/name], [name]Adam[/name], [name]Asher[/name]…that’s just alliteration of the A and it doesn’t bother me as much.
I think alliteration can be really sweet (I love [name]Cora[/name] with a C- last name). I do think [name]Anna[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] is too matchy because [name]Anna[/name] doesn’t have many sounds to distinguish it from [name]Anderson[/name] (the first sound is the same and the 2nd part runs right into the A in the last name. But maybe [name]Anastasia[/name] or an An- name with something behind it would work?). I think [name]Asher[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] and [name]Adam[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] sound fine, though, because they’ve got some different sounds thrown into the mix. I think [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Anderson[/name], [name]Amos[/name] [name]Anderson[/name], and [name]Augustus[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] sound nice, too.
I agree with the others–[name]Asher[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] is fine, as are [name]Adam[/name] and [name]Abram[/name]. [name]Anna[/name] is lovely but I agree that [name]Anna[/name] [name]Anderson[/name]/[name]Annie[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] is quite cutesy. Although I’ve seen it done several times in TV shows and movies or whatever, so I don’t think it’s the end of the world. I also think there might be a better option, like [name]Annika[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] and use the nn [name]Anna[/name] or something.
