We really like the first name [name]Leo[/name]. Our last name is Yoder. Is that too much of the same sound for those names to work together?
Hmm…I do hear the two repeating "yo"s when saying the whole name. Not sure if it’s a deal breaker. Perhaps open to variations of [name]Leo[/name]? Then giving him the nn of [name]Leo[/name]. [name]Leon[/name] Yoder, [name]Leopold[/name] Yoder, [name]Leonardo[/name] Yoder, [name]Leonidas[/name] Yoder. (these are getting more instense as I keep going, lol) These do help break it up a bit. I’m not sure, I like the short sweetness of [name]Leo[/name].
Sorry I’m on the fence about it, too!
Best wishes!
When I thought of [name]Leo[/name] Yoder spelled out, I thought it was fine. When I said it out loud, I noticed the problem but I don’t think it’s a deal breaker. I love the pp’s suggestion of [name]Leopold[/name] Yoder… What about [name]Elliot[/name] Yoder or [name]Leander[/name]/[name]Leandre[/name]/[name]Leandro[/name] Yoder, nn [name]Leo[/name]?
I keep have the same problem with names being too similar to my last name. I think this combo isn’t too bad though. If you like this name better than any other, I say go for it. It is easy enough to say and he will be addressed by his first name only a lot more often than by his first and last name together. Good luck!
I don’t see a problem at all. It’s not a distracting or obvious repetition to me, so I would go for it. It’s a lovely name!
I would probably keep looking and put [name]Leo[/name] on the backburner for a while. If you can’t find anything you like as much, use it, but the “yo yo” thing is a little much for me, sorry.
[name]How[/name] about [name]Leonard[/name] ?
Thanks for all of the input! It is nice to get advice without having to ask family and friends. Whatever we choose we hope to keep a surprise until he is born!
I don’t think it’s bad, but like the idea of a longer version.
You could even do something like [name]Lennox[/name] and call him leo.
