First Baby Coming in March! Help!

DH and I found out that we are expecting a baby girl in [name_u]March[/name_u]! I have been looking forward to naming a real human for years, and now that the time has come… it’s really hard! Especially since DH has a far more conservative naming style than me. So I turn to you Berries! We have a first and middle short list, but the names are really all over the place because of our different styles. I definitely think you should go with a common but not to common first name such as [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], and a more out there middle name such as [name_f]Ambrosia[/name_f].

If I got to narrow down your lists, I would end up with:

Estelle - prefect balance of being recognized but not too common
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f] - amazing name and could go by a more “out there” nickname like [name_u]Tali[/name_u]

middles:
[name_f]Cambria[/name_f]
[name_f]Ambrosia[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]

If I got to name your baby she would be:

Natalie [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
or
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_f]Cambria[/name_f]

I think these names work perfectly for your styles!

I’m probably not the one to appease a more conservative naming style, but I think Desdemona is delightul, and definitely my favourite of you first name options!
Of the middles, I think Zephyrine, Lux, and Ambrosia ( :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:) are all delightful options!

Estelle is pretty, and I think could make a good option, but isn’t personally for me.
Ella is very pretty, but really popular, and there are other options I prefer for you.
Desirae is intriguing, but not really my vibe.
Destri is actually really cool.
Natalie seems a little basic in comparison to some others.
Odessa is really cool and I think could definitely work for you!
Zenia is nice (though not for me), though I would prefer either Xenia or Zinnia.
Sera is lovely, but would be endlessly confused for Sarah.
Desdemona is delightful and I love it.
Kate is cute, and though simple, it is very lovely.

Zephyrine is magical and delightful.
Zoe isn’t really for me.
Charlotte is very popular, but I do really like it (but I would use the middle spot for one of your more exuberant options)
Cambria isn’t my style, but it still sweet.
Cynthia has a nasty association for me, so I always feel :grimacing: about it, but objectively, it’s quite pretty.
Lucie is adorable and I think it’s a delightful option!
Ambrosia is absolutely perfect and you should definitely choose it, please.
Cindi feels a little dated, and I’m not sure the spelling’s intuitive.
Amanda is lovely, but a little dated as well.

The two combos that I would go for would be Desdemona Lux or Destri Ambrosia!

Here are my thoughts-

Estelle-This is lovely. It’s a good choice, because it’s old fashioned & classic, but also not so over done that it’s boring. It’s elegant, smart, kind & has the spunky nn options of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Essie[/name_f]. I don’t think that any of the mns necessarily go great w/Estelle, but [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] sounds okay.

Ella-I do love this, even though it’s really over done. It’s pretty, vintage , kind of spunky & kind of glamorous. I like it as a nn even more I think. Maybe for [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f], [name_f]Estella[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] or [name_f]Mariella[/name_f]. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] is good too.

Desirae-This spelling looks way off, & I don’t love the name in general. Something about it sounds too dramatic to me.

Natalie-A name that I just don’t care for, but I have no good reason for it. It’s perfectly fine; just doesn’t do much for me. [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_u]Lux[/name_u] is kind of cool.

Odessa-It’s neat & different. I do find it a bit heavy, honestly.

Zenia-Hm. Kind of cool. Kind of reminds me of the term xenials!

Sera-I can see the appeal of why this is better than [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], but I think it will be a headache having this mistaken for [name_f]Sara[/name_f](h) constantly.

Desdemona-That’s just too dark. Not my style.

Kate-A nice simple classic. I absolutely prefer it as a nn for [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]. Or [name_f]Katia[/name_f]! And I also like [name_f]Kate[/name_f], but not I’m just being picky. If you like just [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_f]Ambrosia[/name_f] is an interesting idea.

I think [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] stands out from your fn list as one that would perfectly blend the more mainstream choices like [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and the more unique like [name_f]Desdemona[/name_f]. It’s that kind of balanced name that’s familiar, but not too out-there, so it could blend your husband’s more conservative style with yours, which I assume is more whimsical. :slight_smile:

We are now leaning heavily towards [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], because as several of you pointed out, it’s a happy compromise between our styles. Maybe in the future DH will be willing to branch out even more for first names :wink:

From your first names, I love the simplicity of [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Sera[/name_f], and [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] beautiful too! (Especially with the nn [name_f]Stella[/name_f], which is my niece’s name.)
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite from your middle names is [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]!

I agree [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] seems to be the name for you :blush:

I would discount [name_f]Ambrosia[/name_f] because it reminds me of a brand of custard and is also a sort of custardy/yoghurt/fruit&sweet dessert here in NZ and AUS so the connotations put me off.

All your other shortlisted middle names sound great with [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] though.

I think these combinations combine a more mainstream name with a more adventurous middle which could be a good middle ground to land on.

Odessa feels like a safe middle ground too. It’s not common but not unheard of. It pairs beautifully with a ton of wide range middle names from [name_f]Odessa[/name_f] [name_f]Zephrine[/name_f] and [name_f]Odessa[/name_f] [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] . It’s wearable and ages well.

[name_f]Ella[/name_f] - overused imo, but a nice name
[name_f]Desirae[/name_f] - I prefer the [name_f]Desiree[/name_f] spelling, but I’m not really a fan of either
[name_f]Destri[/name_f] - this is interesting, I’m not too sure how I feel about it
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f] - I find this dated, maybe you’d like [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] instead?
[name_f]Odessa[/name_f] - such a beautiful name
[name_f]Zenia[/name_f] - I’m a little confused as to the pronunciation, but it seems like a nice name
