First Baby Name Dilemma

Good morning!

I’m a newbie to posting on here and am excited to see if the community here can help us out! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband ([name_m]Jack[/name_m]) and I are expecting our first baby (a boy) early next year and are really struggling to come up with a perfect name. We’ve narrowed it down to 2 variations of the same name :

[name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Avery[/name_u]

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband chose the first option, I’ve always wanted a [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. Our surname is Yarbrough (pn Yarbro).

Thanks in advance!
[name_f]Liesl[/name_f] Yarbrough

Firstly, welcome!

I feel like [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Avery[/name_u] Yarbrough has the better flow, and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] is a great nickname!

Avery [name_m]Charles[/name_m] Yarbrough is also lovely, though, so I can totally understand you’re having problems deciding :slightly_smiling_face:

But if you ask me, I prefer [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Avery[/name_u].

I think [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Avery[/name_u] flows slightly better, but [name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] works, too. If it helps, know that you can call him “[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]” either way. A nickname like that can come from the middle name just as well as the first name.

I slightly prefer [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Avery[/name_u] flow wise. [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] is strong and wonderful as well!

I agree that [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Avery[/name_u] flows a bit better. Both are great though!

Hi there.

I think that [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is lovely for a boy, but it’s soooo popular for girls. [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Avery[/name_u] sounds perfect. Handsome, smart, classic & the nn [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] is super adorable.

Hope this helps.

Thank so much to all of you! This has been so helpful. I’m excited that we might finally have our name!

I love both of those names! I think [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Avery[/name_u] flows better!

Congratulations and [name_f]Welcome[/name_f] !!!

I love the flow [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Avery[/name_u] And I really like how timeless [name_m]Charles[/name_m] is. It’s also a name with lots of nickname variations so it ages well too!

Ooh that tough both go very nicely with your last name

Charles [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is my favorite. But you could use [name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and still call him [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]

I am a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and I get [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. I really do love charlie. If it wasn’t my NN I’d call a son [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] in a flash. So I vote for [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Avery[/name_u].

Charles [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is so handsome! I love it

I know [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is unisex but it’s definitely gone to the girls in my area.

Charles is a great classic and more masculine imo. I love and vote for [name_m]Charles[/name_m]!

This was my concern. I always think of it as a boy’s name because that is how it was originally used, but so many girl’s use it now. We don’t know any [name_u]Avery[/name_u]’s of either gender, which is why I think my husband was drawn to it, but I don’t want him to be mistaken as a girl on paper, or for people to think we are giving our son a “girly” name. Thanks for sharing my brain!

I know several Averys, but only one is a boy and I do remember he was occasionally teased. I think [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is wonderful and I adore [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]

I like [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Avery[/name_u]! I think that’s a great name!

My favourite is [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Avery[/name_u] Yarbrough I just think the flow of the name is better and I think [name_m]Charles[/name_m] sounds better with Yarbrough.

Both are wonderful, but I think I prefer [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Avery[/name_u]- I hold the name [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] close to my heart!

Charles [name_u]Avery[/name_u] has the best flow imo, and it gives you [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]! I usually call my little sister by her middle name (among other nicknames), so that’s a possibility for your husband.

Charles [name_u]Avery[/name_u] gets my vote. Classic and solid but also fun and cute with [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] as a nickname!
