I am struggling so hard! My husband poos all over every idea of mine, but has almost none of his own. I want to name him [name]Finn[/name]. No middle name (daddy doesn’t have a middle name either). I think it is perfect. I worry that it might be gaining too much popularity, though. Husband hates “[name]Finn[/name]” but likes [name]Finley[/name]. [name]Finley[/name] too feminine I think. Neither of us dig [name]Finnian[/name] or [name]Finnegan[/name] or [name]Phineas[/name], etc…
We considered [name]Brock[/name], but it sounds too harsh.
[name]Guy[/name] is in the running, but to me it’s almost too cutesy (“Come here, little [name]Guy[/name].”).
I like other names like [name]Caleb[/name], [name]Dirk[/name], [name]Quinten[/name], [name]Gavin[/name], but can’t use them for whatever reasons.
My daughters are [name]Kaley[/name] [name]Marin[/name] and [name]Gillian[/name] Brietta. I don’t want a super common or popular name, but I don’t like being way off the beaten path or alternative spellings of pop/classic names (no extreaneous "y"s!).
If baby had been a girl, I was thinking [name]Regina[/name] or [name]Portia[/name] (not that hubby liked either, darnit).
If I opt for a middle name, I am considering [name]Alistair[/name] ([name]Finn[/name] [name]Alistair[/name]?? [name]How[/name] does that sound? Hubby says "too whitey-white. He is Mexican, but we aren’t all that into Hispanic names either.) [name]Don[/name]'t like [name]Alistair[/name] as a first name though- too clunky.
Any ideas or suggestions on what else to look at. Hours of staring at long lists is driving me insane! Thank you in advance.
Edited for privacy.
What about [name]Flynn[/name]? [name]Finley[/name] seems like the perfect solution, and you could call him [name]Finn[/name]. [name]Finley[/name] definitely isn’t too feminine to me; I can’t even imagine [name]Finley[/name] on a girl. It’s so handsome. But if you aren’t into it, I think [name]Flynn[/name] could be a nice alternative. [name]Finn[/name] [name]Alistair[/name]/[name]Finley[/name] [name]Alistair[/name] or [name]Flynn[/name] [name]Alistair[/name] would be nice.
Good luck!
[name]Flynn[/name] is a good suggestion
[name]Wade[/name]
[name]Brent[/name]
[name]Owen[/name]
[name]Cruz[/name] (I think your DH would like this one)
I was also going to suggest [name]Flynn[/name], too.
Other names similar to [name]Finn[/name]:
[name]Ian[/name]
[name]Eamon[/name]
[name]Declan[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Egan[/name]
Other suggestions for middle names (some have a Spanish influence but not overtly):
[name]Dominic[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Broderick[/name] (similar to [name]Brock[/name])
I’ve never met a [name]Finn[/name] [name]IRL[/name]. I definitely think [name]Finley[/name] is a boys name! I can’t picture it on a little girl in the least.
You could also try Finten, Finnis, [name]Griffin[/name], or Finnrick
Thanks for some ideas. Boys names are so much harder than I expected!
[name]How[/name] about [name]Gage[/name]? It’s similar to [name]Brock[/name] but I think less harsh sounding…
My best friend’s oldest boy is [name]Gage[/name]. I love the name, but can’t steal it
I’m sorry you’re having such a hard time! You could present your husband with a list of ten names and tell him he’s got to pick one. I’m sorry, but I do think [name]Finley[/name] is fairly feminine. [name]Finn[/name] is a full name on its own and does not need to be anything longer. It is, however, getting somewhat more popular.
[name]Finn[/name] [name]Alistair[/name] is pretty Celtic sounding. Some one-syllable ideas that aren’t too harsh or too girly, too weird or too common might be:
[name]Gray[/name]
[name]Blaise[/name] (saint’s name, but can also be spelled [name]Blaize[/name] or [name]Blaze[/name] – a bit macho)
[name]Brent[/name]
[name]Cash[/name]
[name]Chase[/name]
[name]Drew[/name]
[name]Hayes[/name]
[name]Kai[/name]
[name]King[/name]
[name]Knox[/name]
[name]Pierce[/name]
[name]Reed[/name] (I like this and [name]Pierce[/name] a lot for you…)
[name]Rex[/name]
[name]Trent[/name]
[name]Van[/name] or [name]Vance[/name]
[name]Wade[/name] (I like this too)
And give the boy a middle name! Especially with such a short first.
I like [name]Pierce[/name] a lot too. [name]Reese[/name] is another name I like. Hubby asked me about [name]James[/name] this morn, and indeed, I love the name, but I know too many, and have a slightly negative feeling associated with the name.
Ultimately, if I need to see this boy before I decide on a name, I know that’s okay. I didn’t name [name]Gillian[/name] until she was born (again, husband hated my name choices!). I didn’t even verify his okay before I told the nurse. But hey, he couldn’t imagine her as anyone else anymore.
