First name for Alphonse

First time poster here! DH and I absolutely adore [name]Alphonse[/name] but have decided it would be best placed as a mn. [name]Do[/name] any of you berries have ideas for a fn for [name]Alphonse[/name]? Our last name is very generic and goes with anything. We like names that are related to literature, history, science, and science fiction. We proudly classify ourselves in the nerd category.

So far all we have is

Hey lady nice to see you coming out of lurkerdom!!!

I loved the suggestion of [name]Wesley[/name] though of course the spelling [name]Westley[/name] would be fan-freakin-tastic for its relationship to The [name]Princess[/name] [name]Bride[/name]!

I also love [name]Byron[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]. Of course [name]Lord[/name] [name]Byron[/name] is my favorite poet of all time but it really flows beautifully, I think, with [name]Alphonse[/name].

[name]Peter[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name] is great as well and has the whole [name]Lion[/name], Witch, & Wardrobe connection.

It’s too bad [name]Tristan[/name] is taken. I thought [name]Tristan[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name] sounded surprisingly good together.

So is it safe for me to assume that you’re an FMA fan? (; if so, how about:
Elric [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
If not, how about these:
[name]Liam[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]George[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Callum[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]

Micsha: Thank you for the huge list! I see quite a few names on there that we could use. [name]Will[/name] see what the hubby says.

thelifespark: As you know, I love [name]Westley[/name] and really wish we could use [name]Tristan[/name]. Maybe we could find another form.

lovejaybayy: You’ve found me out! Hubster and I love FMA. More than that, we love his brother and their relationship is so much like [name]Edward[/name] and [name]Alphonse[/name]'s relationship. Instead of using his brother’s nice but overused name, we thought we’d use [name]Alphonse[/name] for two associations in one. It’s the only boy name we can agree on. [name]Edward[/name] is too closely associated with Twilight right now, sadly, but I have considered Elric and [name]Liam[/name] is definitely on my list.

You could go with a nod to [name]Robin[/name] Hobb and name him [name]Hobbes[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name] or [name]Orson[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name] ([name]Orson[/name] [name]Scott[/name] [name]Card[/name]–I’m sure you got that already) or Tolkien [name]Alphonse[/name], or [name]Atticus[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name], [name]Victor[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name], [name]Hugo[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name].

[name]Orlando[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Archer[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Beckett[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Christian[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Zion[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Xavier[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Eric[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Merrick[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Odin[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Noam[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]

Aha! I know a fan when I spot one. Lol Wow, I really like your idea of how you’re incorporating the name, not necessarily completely because of the anime. [name]Even[/name] though [name]Al[/name] is a pretty good namesake I think, as far as his character goes. Unfortunately, you’re right about [name]Edward[/name]. Everyone not clued in will likely assume you were into Twilight at the time. I figured you probably had Elric in mind already. I always thought it would make a pretty cool first name, possibly an alternative to the popular [name]Eric[/name].

The art fanatic in me immediately thought of [name]Alphonse[/name] Mucha, one of my favorite artists. Then that made me think of other artists like:

[name]Henri[/name] (de [name]Toulouse[/name]-[name]Lautrec[/name])
[name]Rodin[/name] ([name]Auguste[/name])
[name]Braque[/name]
[name]Hopper[/name]
[name]Calder[/name]
Miro

I particularly like Miro [name]Alphonse[/name] or [name]Henri[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name] - very handsome

There are so many awesome suggestions! Berries are so helpful!

So far my favorites are:
[name]Henri[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Westley[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Victor[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Eric[/name] or Elric [name]Alphonse[/name] (which would honor both of our brothers!)
[name]Archer[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]

Years ago I would have loved to use [name]Orson[/name] but lately OSC and I don’t see eye to eye on some things. Hubster and I still adore his work and would consider character names as a source of inspiration.

[name]Christian[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name] perhaps?

If you can’t use [name]Tristan[/name] my vote would be for [name]Westley[/name] but I must say [name]Henri[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name] is really quite handsome as well. I like it. And of course [name]Eric[/name] or Elric to honor your brother and [name]Alphonse[/name] to honor his is a good compromise where neither side of the family gets left out but the vowel beginning of both names makes the flow a little off. Not unusable though, if you really loved it.

If you don’t mind the alliteration of [name]Archer[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name] have you considered [name]Arthur[/name]? I think it’s a very handsome, distinguished name with a great literary history.

I do not mind the alliteration of [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name] at all. I think there are worse things you could with a name and they are both solid, handsome names.

As for [name]Henri[/name], I love the way the French spelling of the name looks and I’m half French Canadian so it would honor my heritage. The two issues I’ve recently thought about is that the poor guy would be constantly spelling out his name for Americans used to the “y” version, and that [name]Henri[/name] is technically pronounced on-ree. It sounds so close to ornery and I do not want an ornery child!

Well you could still pronounce it like the traditional [name]Henry[/name] and although it can sometimes be a little annoying to correct spelling it’s a fairly easy correction. “It’s [name]Henri[/name] with an I not a Y.” I have to correct people on my name all the time and spell it out for them (usually several times) and I’ve gotten fairly used to it. It’s annoying sometimes but not so much that I hate my name.

[name]Just[/name] saying don’t discount if it you really like it.

But my vote is still for [name]Westley[/name]. I love that it alludes to The [name]Princess[/name] [name]Bride[/name] and it’s such a lovely, handsome name for a boy.

I really like [name]Elric[/name] (mostly for the Fullmetal Alchemist references that could be made), but [name]Westley[/name] is also very good. Some suggestions and personal favorites of mine:

[name]Claude[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Jehan[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Victor[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Forrest[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Evrik[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Leeland[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Severus[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Kingsley[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Atticus[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]
[name]Edgar[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name] (oh yes, I just went there. FMA and dark poetry all in one!)
[name]Erik[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name]

Haha, it appears that many of us are FMA, Victor Hugo, Princess Bride, and poetry fans here! This should be fun.
