We would like to use [name_m]Alan[/name_m] as our son’s middle name after a family member. However, most of the names we come up with don’t sound good with [name_m]Alan[/name_m]. I would just choose a different middle name, but [name_m]Alan[/name_m] was a very special person to my husband and he would love to honor him in our son’s name. To give you an idea of our naming style, some of the names we came up with but can’t use are:

I would focus on finding a first name you [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] and sounds great with the last name, as that is how he will be known and is the most important. Middle names are mainly used on registration forms, etc., as we seldom say our first and middle names together on a day-to-day basis, and most of us don’t even know acquaintances middle names. [name_f]IMO[/name_f], using a meaningful honour name trumps flow. I do agree that [name_u]Rylan[/name_u] and [name_m]Cale[/name_m] don’t flow that well with [name_m]Alan[/name_m] but maybe you would like to share how many syllables or “sounds like” of your last name as it would be easier to offer more suggestions.
I actually really love the flow of [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] [name_m]Alan[/name_m]. Also I agree it’s more important for you to love the first name than use a name that flows well with his seldomly used middle name. Here are some ideas anyway:
