Okay, so!
I’m having my second child, and I don’t know why, but I’ve really latched onto the name [name]Geneva[/name]. I really like it, but I guess I just don’t see it for a first name for my daughter. I love the name and think it’s so pretty and sophisticated. When I found out that in addition to the location part, its meaning of juniper, that really sealed the deal for me. And I think NN [name]Eva[/name] (or maybe [name]Genny[/name]) is great. But! I can’t imagine calling for [name]Geneva[/name] on the playground–does that make sense? So I’m pretty sure I want to put it in the middle.
I just can’t pick a first name that feels right with it though.
My first daughter’s name is [name]Louisa[/name]–we call her [name]Lulu[/name] a good portion of the time–and that was my favorite name since I was a teenager, so it was a no brainer. Since I’ve loved that name for so long, I’m having a lot of trouble coming up with I name I love just as much. Ironically, I think [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Geneva[/name] is pretty great as one name but alas! [name]Lulu[/name] already has her own MN.
I think that “[name]Louisa[/name]” as my favorite name is a pretty good indicator of my naming style: somewhat vintage, but definitely on the sophisticated side of the spectrum, rather than the musty or bespectacled end, and with a spunky nickname.
So–suggestions?
Thanks so much in advance
[name]Louisa[/name] [name]Geneva[/name] would be a bit rhymy for me anyway. I think [name]Geneva[/name] would be a cool middle, but I agree it’s hard to imagine on a child as a first name.
Oh, and I just adore [name]Louisa[/name] by the way.
What about:
[name]Edith[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Martha[/name]
[name]Frances[/name]
[name]Diana[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Rosemary[/name]
[name]Jane[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Helen[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
The first name that popped into my head when I read the title was [name]Grace[/name]. [name]Grace[/name] [name]Geneva[/name]. I love it. [name]Gigi[/name] could be a nickname. It’s kind of a matchy nickname with [name]Lulu[/name], but it’s just a nickname so I don’t think it’s really a big deal. And of course there’s [name]Gracie[/name] as well.
If [name]Grace[/name] isn’t really your style, here are a few other suggestions:
[name]Felicity[/name] (Fliss, Lissy)
[name]Amabel[/name] ([name]Belle[/name], [name]Bella[/name])
[name]Cora[/name] ([name]Cori[/name]- but I like [name]Cora[/name] on its own)
[name]Adele[/name] ([name]Addie[/name], [name]Del[/name])
[name]Charlotte[/name] ([name]Charlie[/name], [name]Lottie[/name])
[name]Audrey[/name] (No nickname)
[name]Adelaide[/name] ([name]Addie[/name])
[name]Rose[/name] ([name]Ro[/name], [name]Rosie[/name])
[name]Amelia[/name] ([name]Mia[/name], [name]Lia[/name], [name]Millie[/name])
[name]Juliet[/name] ([name]Jules[/name])
[name]Eleanor[/name] ([name]El[/name], [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Ella[/name], [name]Nora[/name], [name]Nelle[/name])
[name]Miriam[/name] ([name]Miri[/name], [name]Mira[/name])
[name]Mirabelle[/name] ([name]Miri[/name], [name]Mira[/name], [name]Belle[/name], [name]Bella[/name])
[name]Cecilia[/name] or [name]Celia[/name] ([name]Celie[/name], Cece, [name]Lia[/name])
[name]Susannah[/name] ([name]Su[/name], [name]Susie[/name], [name]Sanna[/name])
[name]Isabel[/name] ([name]Izzy[/name], [name]Bel[/name], [name]Bella[/name])
I also thought of [name]Georgia[/name], but I don’t like it at all with [name]Geneva[/name].
[name]Louisa[/name]'s one of my favorite names, it’s lovely! A sister for [name]Louisa[/name]…
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name] (obviously not with [name]Geneva[/name])
[name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Rosemary[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name]
[name]Adele[/name]
[name]Frances[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
Most of those go well with a middle name [name]Geneva[/name]. I’m not a huge fan of [name]Geneva[/name] since I don’t like place names, but I love [name]Ginevra[/name], which is very similar.
[name]How[/name] many syllables are in the last name and what’s the initial? I’d pass on another three syllable name to make it not wordy. Why don’t you leave out any sort of other place names and also -a ending names?
I’m really liking some of these suggestions–thank you guys so much.
My favorites so far are [name]Cecily[/name], [name]Adele[/name], [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]Edith[/name] (love NN [name]Edie[/name]).
[name]Cecily[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name] are probably the top two of those four, actually.
I feel like I’m waiting to totally click with a name though, the way I totally love [name]Louisa[/name]–the name, not the child, though I am obviously fairly fond of the child too, lol.
And yes, another place-name is definitely out of the question.
Also I’ll just go ahead and give you our last name, which is Wrighton, because it’s hard to pick out a name and middle name and try to consider flow without know it, isn’t it? Though honestly, a lot of syllables doesn’t bother (hey look! [name]Both[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] and [name]Juliet[/name] have 3).
Thank you very much for these suggestions–I feel like we’re on the right track!
[name]EDIT[/name]:
uh-oh.
[name]Just[/name] realized that [name]Cecily[/name] means blind. I haven’t really determined how important meaning is to me and my husband, but I just find that really off-putting…
Also, with [name]Juliet[/name], I can really easily see us referring to these children of ours as [name]Lulu[/name] and Juju, which is fairly horrendous. [name]Jules[/name] and, I dunno, [name]Etta[/name], are good NNs, but knowing us, and with the [name]Lulu[/name] precedent, it would probably turn into Juju.
So, sadly back to the drawing board then…
(first name) [name]Geneva[/name] Wrighton is it? I’d stick to one syllable names for a good count of 1-3-2. Let’s pass on place names and -a endings. Here are a few that may pique your interest:
[name]Bree[/name]
[name]Bryn[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Neve[/name]
[name]Sky[/name]
[name]Sloane[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]
Dear whatever you decide to do, you got to skip another word name. [name]Geneva[/name]'s fine w/o it. Pick something that’s a solid female name that’s not -on for the last part.
I know a little [name]Geneva[/name]! She’s a doll! I think [name]Louisa[/name] and [name]Geneva[/name] is a moouthful though, you’ll go crazy calling them for dinner! I think [name]Geneva[/name] would be great as a mn!
I’d look for a fn that doesn’t end in A or -en/-on so it doesn’t all sound so rhyme-y and sing-song-y. I think another G name would be fine as long as it’s the harder G like [name]Grace[/name] as pp suggested. I don’t think I’d do a J b/c it sounds the same as the G in [name]Geneva[/name].
[name]Brielle[/name]
[name]Adele[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Abigail[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name] as pp suggested
[name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]
