We’re expecting a boy in [name_u]July[/name_u] and the one and only name I have been gravitating towards is [name_m]Grayson[/name_m]. The potential problem is that our last name is [name_f]May[/name_f]. Too rhyme-y? I fear in middle/high school people might start calling him [name_u]Gray[/name_u] [name_f]May[/name_f] as a joke or something, and then I’d feel bad. My husband and I really don’t have any other names we feel like could be the one at this point, so any suggestions are welcome!
Also, what do you think about first names ending with the same letter the last name begins with? i.e. [name_m]Graham[/name_m] [name_f]May[/name_f]
I don’t think [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] [name_f]May[/name_f] is bad at all. I actually think the slight rhyme gives the name a nice memorable rhythm. If [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] is your top choice, I would go with it!
I like [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] [name_f]May[/name_f] better than [name_m]Graham[/name_m] [name_f]May[/name_f]—it’s got a good ring to it! If your last name were [name_u]Mason[/name_u], that would be a different story…
I didn’t notice a rhyme in [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] [name_f]May[/name_f] at first. I think the main problem is if he goes by nn [name_u]Gray[/name_u]. Then, yeah definitely not great. If he stays [name_m]Grayson[/name_m], I think its fine though
I have never liked it when the last sound of the first name is the same as the first sound in a last name. I went to school with a boy named [name_m]Luke[/name_m] C@nard, and no one could ever say his full name without stumbling. It’s just too easy to mishear or mispronounce.
The trouble with [name_m]Graham[/name_m] [name_f]May[/name_f] is that when you say it quickly, it may sound like “grammy” or some other grandmother-related name. I think [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] [name_f]May[/name_f] has a nice sound! There is also the similar [name_m]Garrison[/name_m], which would avoid that issue all together.
I agree that [name_m]Greyson[/name_m] [name_f]May[/name_f] would make it look a little less “matchy.” But I also think with a name, a lot depends on how you introduce yourself. If he chooses to go by (or if people call him) [name_u]Gray[/name_u], he can simply introduce himself as [name_u]Gray[/name_u]. When he’s using his last name, he can say [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] [name_f]May[/name_f]. I really don’t think it would be too much of a problem.
I also like the suggestion of [name_m]Gibson[/name_m].
I don’t think [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] [name_f]May[/name_f] is too rhymy, unless his nickname will be [name_u]Gray[/name_u]?
I have heard other [name_m]Grayson[/name_m]'s referred to as [name_f]Gracy[/name_f] for short. In my head I’ve just heard [name_f]Macy[/name_f] [name_u]Gray[/name_u], but I don’t think rhymy names are a bad thing.
I think [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] [name_f]May[/name_f] is handsome and I didn’t notice the issues at all. I think its easy enough to just insist on calling him [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] instead of [name_u]Gray[/name_u] to help mitigate the [name_u]Gray[/name_u] [name_f]May[/name_f] issue. I think [name_m]Graham[/name_m] [name_f]May[/name_f] is worse as pp said, said quickly all I hear is Grammy.
