First Names You Loved

Hello! I thought that this would be fun question to post. I recently asked my 3yr old niece what her favorite name was and she told me [name_f]Annie[/name_f] ([name_u]Magic[/name_u] Tree House). It got me thinking about the names I liked as a kid. The earliest names I remember liking are [name_f]Sally[/name_f], [name_u]Angel[/name_u], [name_f]Crystal[/name_f], and [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. These don’t really fit my style now, but they’re fun nostalgic names now.

What are the first names you remember loving? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you still love them or has your style changed and they’re just fun names with good memories now?

I remember I used to love Kitlyn [name_f]Fern[/name_f] as an 8 year old. [name_m]Don[/name_m]’t really like Kitlyn any more, I don’t mind [name_f]Fern[/name_f] but doubt I’d use it. I also loved Addiena, and it’s still one of my favourites today. More ‘normal’ names would be [name_f]Lola[/name_f] and [name_f]Carla[/name_f], they’re ok but again not something I’d use now.

I’ve always found girl names much easier so I’ll just include those. For a long time, I viewed my boys list as just a formality .

Some of my first name loves: [name_u]Simone[/name_u], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], [name_f]Theresa[/name_f], [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Kaelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f], [name_f]Chyna[/name_f], [name_f]Juliana[/name_f], [name_f]Bree[/name_f], [name_u]Kari[/name_u], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], and [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]. I wouldn’t consider using any of them now, tbh (except for maybe [name_u]Simone[/name_u]).

Phoebe (not even friends related, no idea where I got it from) & [name_f]Amy[/name_f] were my oldest two crushes.

Amy is okay but neither are really my style now.

I remember being really into [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u], [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] and [name_f]Fern[/name_f] about 10years ago. But my style has completely changed now.

My first and only names I ever thought I would use were Tëgᴀn Söphïᴀ and Wïllïᴀm Wëslëy. Then I started working on family history and became interested in names. Now, though I love these names, I prefer using them in different combos with some of the individual names meaning more than others, and one I probably won’t ever use at all.

I named my first American Girl doll [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] when I was five. I thought it was just the most gorgeous name! Definitely nms now, but I remember adoring it.

I don’t think I really got interested in names until high school. [name_f]My[/name_f] first name love was definitely [name_m]Colm[/name_m], which I read in a collection of essays somewhere. I still love it, but would probably pick a similar name with a more obvious pronunciation like [name_m]Callum[/name_m].

I think my second love was [name_u]Reese[/name_u], but I really can’t remember why. Originally liked it for a boy, then decided I liked it enough to use on either gender. Now, I’d use [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] for a boy and [name_u]Reese[/name_u] for a girl’s middle.

I don’t remember the first girl’s name I loved. Maybe [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]? [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] was pretty early too. [name_f]My[/name_f] girls’ list has much higher turnover, so it’s been through many many iterations. [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] is more of a pet name for me now, and while I still like [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], I probably wouldn’t use it.

I distinctly remember loving [name_u]Haley[/name_u] and [name_f]Mia[/name_f] for girls and I was really fond of [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] when I was younger! I don’t think I’d use any of them now lol but it’s very fun to see

All through preschool and elementary school I named everything [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. I was obsessed and talked about how I wanted my name to be [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. I think it’s a fine name now, but I wouldn’t use it for my own kiddo.

I remember loving [name_u]Emery[/name_u] for a girl and [name_u]Elias[/name_u] for a boy during sixth grade. Other than that, I named some of my characters Eclipse, [name_u]Red[/name_u], and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. Would not use any of those names now but other than the characters they’re still my general style.

Clementine (after the song), [name_f]Annie[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] (from a book), [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] and [name_f]Phillipa[/name_f]

[name_f]Melody[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], [name_f]Crystal[/name_f], [name_u]Skye[/name_u], [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_u]Snow[/name_u], [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and everything that had [name_f]Rose[/name_f] in it ([name_f]Rosabella[/name_f], [name_f]Roselyn[/name_f] etc).

These are ranked by how early I liked them.
[name_f]Katie[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Rachel[/name_f]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]

[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: I forgot [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] and [name_u]Brooke[/name_u]. (And Elizabeth, Layla, Grace)

I don’t know for boys, but I remember my girl’s taste distinctly through the ages.
First, I really liked [name_f]Petunia[/name_f]. Probably until I was like five or six, and then I remember for some reason really liking the name [name_f]Mary[/name_f], as well as characters from books I read. Then, in the beginning of second grade, I liked really long and fancy (to me) names, like [name_f]Angelina[/name_f]. I remember in second grade I really liked [name_f]Christina[/name_f]. By fourth grade, I loved [name_f]Jade[/name_f], [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u], and [name_u]Alex[/name_u], and fifth grade I liked more unisex names like [name_u]Alex[/name_u] and [name_u]Robin[/name_u]. The summer before seventh grade, I fell in love with nature word names, with [name_u]Aspen[/name_u] and [name_u]Robin[/name_u] being my forerunners, as well as random names like [name_u]Holland[/name_u]. Then, I joined nameberry. Now my individual-name-loves are very distinctly remembered. When I first joined, I fell in love with the name [name_f]Aveline[/name_f]. I also really liked [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]. Now it seems kinda polleny to me for some reason, but it was followed by [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f], and then [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], and now I guess [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. I loved [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], but ever since I found out it wasn’t pronounced KAH-lee-op (with a long o, like in rose), it’s not as great. I also love random names like [name_u]Basil[/name_u], as well as more obscure ones like [name_f]Calluna[/name_f]. I still like nature names, but different ones.

There’s a handful of names I feel like I’ve loved my whole life–[name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]–that I would say I still LOVE. [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is on my list, and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] probably would be if [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] wasn’t my favorite girls’ name. I like [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], but wouldn’t want an [name_u]Abby[/name_u] (I love [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] in her entirety!), and she doesn’t feel as special as a middle. If I ever went back to [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], I even have two combos picked out I adore ([name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f] and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]!), but I don’t know that I’d have an [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] these days–I just don’t know if I could get away with JUST [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]! I do love [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], and go back and forth on [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], and whether I’m ready to add her back yet. She is a huge favorite.

When I was a preteen, I was mostly into names I discovered in stories–I remember [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Cassia[/name_f], [name_f]Kristiana[/name_f], and I think [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] being on my list. Surprisingly, [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] has become a staple on my list, and I don’t know that I’ll EVER fall out of love with [name_f]Rachel[/name_f], but I haven’t found a spot for her yet. And [name_f]Christiana[/name_f] is a resurging love, but I would spell it [name_f]Christiana[/name_f] over [name_f]Kristiana[/name_f] these days.

Other than those, I really remember LOVING [name_f]Lacey[/name_f] and [name_f]Krystal[/name_f] when I was a teenager. I honestly still do love [name_f]Lacey[/name_f], and would happily fit her on my list if I could find the right combo. [name_f]Krystal[/name_f] I admit I am way over, though.

About 10-15 years ago, I was really into [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f] [name_f]Nadia[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_u]Delaney[/name_u], [name_u]Emmerson[/name_u] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]/Emmeline [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Nadia[/name_f], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] [name_u]Maria[/name_u]… [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] I now love for a boy, but [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is still on my list, though not quite so high as it had been.

It’ll be interesting to see, in about another 10-15 years, if I’m still as crazy over [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_f]Eleni[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Arianne[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Ayla[/name_f], [name_u]Tali[/name_u], [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_u]Snow[/name_u], [name_f]Mira[/name_f], [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Luella[/name_f], and [name_f]Maris[/name_f] as I am today.

Hi there.

You were smart. [name_f]Sally[/name_f] & [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are lovely! Your niece is a bright kid too. [name_f]Annie[/name_f] is a great choice!

I know that for the longest time I loved the names [name_f]Amber[/name_f] for a girl & [name_u]Austin[/name_u] for a boy. Those were probably the first loves from the age of nine or so. I don’t care for [name_f]Amber[/name_f] anymore for some reason. It kind of just seems too 90s to me now. I went through a phase of not liking [name_u]Austin[/name_u] anymore because it seemed too 90s, but now I like it again. It’s more cowboy-y than 90s now.

Natasha, [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], and I’m sure there’s more from my childhood. [name_f]My[/name_f] tastes have changed a little bit. I’d still probably consider the last three for middle names.

When I was a little girl, the first names I remember really liking were [name_f]Crystal[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Samantha[/name_f]. Now, I don’t really like those names, I am more into unusual names like [name_f]Cybele[/name_f] and Amazonia.
