First time Mom

Hi Nameberry!
I’ve been obsessed with names for a long time, and now I’m pregnant!
[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I already can’t agree on names, so I thought it could be helpful to turn to the online community. We don’t want to share the name we pick with family because we have some very opinionated family members.

Some quick goals…

  1. not too popular (ideally not top 100), we had four [name_f]Megan[/name_f]’s at our wedding!
  2. one spelling
  3. easy to pronounce
  4. It would be great to have the name start with B, J, H, L, R, G, or E to honor deceased grandparents (but not mandatory, we can always give a shout out in the middle name)
  5. Our last name starts with H - we love the idea of an alliteration
  6. Our last name is one syllable, my husband insists the name must be two or more syllables

Some names I like
Girls

  • Sadie
  • Nora

Hope my suggestions help! I tried to follow your requests as best as I could!
Also had to throw in my own name ([name_f]Molly[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]) because it seemed to fit your taste!

Hi there.

Here are my thoughts on your lists so far:

Girls-

Sadie-So cute. It has such a friendly, sweet, vintage vibe. It’s well known but not too terribly popular.

Nora-Another beautiful classic. It’s smart, feminine, elegant yet simple. I do hear it quite a lot in my area.

Madeline-Also, so lovely! Sweet & vintage. This breaks some of your rules though. It’s sort of common & has a million spellings.

Mia-Aw, I love [name_f]Mia[/name_f]. There’s a [name_f]Mia[/name_f] sitting on my lap right now (my kitty!) It’s soooo popular though, unfortunately.

Maggie-I like this okay. It’s kind of cute & not too popular. But it just seems so nick-namey. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] or…the best one…[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]?

Hailey-Yeah, there are a lot of spellings, & it’s kind of over done. I like [name_f]Hayley[/name_f].

Zoey-Well, I guess this has two spellings. [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] is really the more regular spelling. This is very common too, but kind of cute.

Annabelle-There are two spellings here, but I don’t think that’s too bad. [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] seems more used than [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]. [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] is a sweet vintage name. It’s simple & well known, but not that popular.

Ophelia-I don’t know why, but I don’t like this one. It’s just kind of dark & dreary to me. Other people seem to love it.

Cassidy-Meh, I don’t care for this. It’s a bit trendy…or 90s.

Hazel-This is nice. It’s old fashioned, smart, feminine w/out being frilly & a little bit quirky. Again, it’s really fairly over done, sadly.

Here are a few not too popular ideas that you may like:

Bridget

Cecily

Daphne

Delia

Eloise

Felicity

Gemma

Greta

Hattie

Holly

Lorelei

Maeve

Marigold

Phoebe

Boys-

Levi-This is nice. It’s smart & polished, but has a cool cowboy edge too. It’s a little bit popular, but not way too popular, I don’t think.

Sam-Aw, I love [name_u]Sam[/name_u]. It’s so sweet & friendly. I do prefer it as a nn for [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] though. A bit common, but a lovely classic.

Penn-That’s fun. It’s really unique, but simple & sleek.

Forrest-Another good uncommon choice. I don’t love it for some reason, but I can’t pinpoint why. I want to like it. It’s interesting.

Theodore-Super adorable & charming. Getting really popular.

Nolan-I love [name_u]Nolan[/name_u]. It’s on my top list. It’s sporty & gentle at the same time. A bit common, but not too bad.

Benjamin-Very popular, but a beautiful classic.

Elijah-Same as above.

Miles-I don’t know. I want to like it, but it just doesn’t do much for me. I hear it a whole lot in my area.

Edward-I like [name_m]Edward[/name_m] okay. It’s strong & smart & old fashioned. Prefer the nns [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] & [name_m]Ned[/name_m].

Leo-Really cute & a little quirky. Getting fairly popular.

A few boy ideas that you may like:

Bastian

Colin

Dominic

  1. Zoe/Zoey

  2. Sadie

  3. Hazel

  4. Penn

  5. Leo

  6. Sam

  7. Nolan

  8. Benjamin

Suggesting-

Helena
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]

Harris
[name_u]Davis[/name_u]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m]
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]

Congratulations!
I’m a big fan of alliterations, so how about:
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u] nn “Hadie” (similar feel to Sadie)
[name_f]Hally[/name_f] (HAL-ee)
[name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_u]Holly[/name_u]

Or:
[name_m]Harrison[/name_m]
[name_u]Holden[/name_u]
[name_u]Hartley[/name_u]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] nn “[name_m]Hank[/name_m]”

Hello! I’m [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. I will warn you that [name_f]Nora[/name_f] has multiple spellings ([name_f]Nora[/name_f] and [name_f]Norah[/name_f]), [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] has multiple ([name_f]Zoe[/name_f] and [name_f]Zoey[/name_f]), [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] has a couple variations ([name_f]Annabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]), [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] has quite a few, [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] can also be spelled [name_u]Forest[/name_u], and you may even see a couple variations of [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] depending on your pronunciation.

My favorites from your lists are [name_u]Levi[/name_u], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], and [name_u]Miles[/name_u].

My name is [name_u]Haley[/name_u], and I’d say that if you don’t like the multiple spelling options then it may be best to choose a different name. [name_f]My[/name_f] name is spelled incorrectly more times than it is spelled correctly, and some people even say “[name_f]Hallie[/name_f]” to both me and my friend that spells it “[name_f]Haleigh[/name_f].” If spelling or popularity isn’t a dealbreaker, then it is a fine option!

My favorite girls are:
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] (not too popular for you?)
[name_u]Cassidy[/name_u]

Boys:
[name_u]Benjamin[/name_u]
[name_u]Miles[/name_u] (I think this is the least popular option, but it is definitely a rising name!)
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]

We talked about the name [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] - I do think it’s super cute, alliteration, two syllables, not too popular, one spelling, easy to pronounce, etc. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think people think of [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] Weinstein? I feel like he ruined the name.
