We think we’ve decided on one girl’s name and one boy’s name with nicknames for each. I’m interested to hear what people think. Too boring? We tried to stay fairly classic, as our last name is long and unusual. [name]Will[/name], as my grandmother suggests, people be annoyed that the children have one name but go by something else? (I personally find this idea ridiculous, but maybe she has a point? Any thoughts appreciated!
For a girl, we’re thinking [name]Anna[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]nn [name]Anna[/name] [name]Beth[/name] (though DH says it should be written [name]Annabeth[/name]…but I think if he wants to write it that way, we should just name her [name]Annabeth[/name]…I’d like thoughts about that issue as well).
For a boy, we’re set on [name]John[/name] [name]Samuel[/name] nn [name]Jack[/name].
[name]Jack[/name] has long been a nickname for [name]John[/name]. I don’t think that is unusual. You say your name is long and unusual-- I would stick with [name]Anna[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], call her [name]Anna[/name] [name]Beth[/name], but leave her the option of just [name]Anna[/name].
I agree, [name]Jack[/name] has always been a nn for [name]John[/name], so that makes perfect sense. I’m not a huge fan of [name]John[/name], but [name]Jack[/name] is adorable! [name]Anna[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] nn [name]Anna[/name] [name]Beth[/name] is really pretty! ([name]Just[/name] wondering, would it be [name]Anna[/name] [name]Beth[/name] or [name]Anna[/name]-[name]Beth[/name] or [name]Annabeth[/name]? All are beautiful!) Good luck!
Good question about [name]Anna[/name] [name]Beth[/name]. I think I would just write [name]Anna[/name] [name]Beth[/name], but DH seems to think it should be [name]Annabeth[/name]. What do you guys think? I kind of feel like if we’re writing [name]Annabeth[/name], we should just name her [name]Annabeth[/name] and give her another middle name. [name]Annabeth[/name] ____?
I think that both full names are great! I don’t agree with your grandmother, I think that it’s fun to have nicknames! [name]Anna[/name] [name]Beth[/name] is beautiful and gives [name]Anna[/name] a little more flavor. [name]Jack[/name] makes traditional [name]John[/name] cool. [name]Both[/name] nicknames are totally appropriate, so they are not awkward or unnatural to say!
I think [name]Anna[/name] [name]Beth[/name] is much better than [name]Annabeth[/name]. I’m not a fan of the latter, but the former looks more like a nickname and as others have said, it gives her the option of going by [name]Anna[/name].
