First Time Poster-Your honest opinion of these names

I just found out I am having a baby girl  I thought it would be a good Idea to get some opinions online because Im fairly new to the US (from [name]England[/name]) so I don’t have too many people in real life to ask about baby names, and there seems to be some real experts on here! my shortlist is:
For first name: [name]Ashton[/name], [name]Everly[/name], Dashlinn, Darrielle, [name]Cameron[/name], [name]Zela[/name]
For middle: [name]Grace[/name], [name]Chantal[/name](love for some reason) [name]Yves[/name], [name]Lyn[/name]

My husband has told me our daughters name is my choice and the task seems rather daunting considering she will have it forever! I love love love Dashlinn [name]Yves/name to go with our last name ( starts with T, two syllables) but my mother doesn’t really seem too in love and Im not in love with the spelling…I think it helps to let ppl know i am bi-racial and my husband is black so your opinion can based more on who we are/what we look like, I…as you can see, Im in need of some ‘yes its lovely’ or ‘no its hideous’ advice.

Please let me know which are your most or least favorites, or if you can identify any combinations that are winning!

Thank you so much!

For first name: [name]Ashton[/name], [name]Everly[/name], Dashlinn, Darrielle, [name]Cameron[/name], [name]Zela[/name]
For middle: [name]Grace[/name], [name]Chantal[/name](love for some reason) [name]Yves[/name], [name]Lyn[/name]

First, I’m jealous that you’re from [name]England[/name]. Would love, love, love to live there.

I too love the name [name]Chantal[/name] but depending on the name it’s paired with it can be elegant or kind of “stripperish”.

I think [name]Ashton[/name] [name]Chantal[/name] and [name]Everly[/name] [name]Chantal[/name] would be adorable. Dashlinn [name]Chantal[/name], [name]Cameron[/name] [name]Chantal[/name] and Darrielle [name]Chantal[/name] - not so much.

Of your other choices I like:

Dashlinn [name]Yves[/name], Dashlinn [name]Grace[/name], [name]Everly[/name] [name]Yves[/name] and [name]Cameron[/name] [name]Yves[/name].

Congrats on your pregnancy and keep us posted on the name you pick.

Thank you so much! [name]Ashton[/name] [name]Chantal[/name] is Darling, but I get caught up on what nickname you could get from [name]Ashton[/name] that is feminine besides [name]Ash[/name]…don’t ask me why but [name]Dash[/name] [name]Turner[/name] sounds so much cuter then [name]Ash[/name] [name]Turner[/name]!

I appreciate your feedback…

For first name: [name]Ashton[/name], [name]Everly[/name], Dashlinn, Darrielle, [name]Cameron[/name], [name]Zela[/name]
For middle: [name]Grace[/name], [name]Chantal[/name](love for some reason) [name]Yves[/name], [name]Lyn[/name]

[name]Ashton[/name] - I’ve never been fond of any “[name]Ash[/name]” names… it’s a personal preference due to the popularity of [name]Ashley[/name], so I’m biased on this one.
[name]Everly[/name] - I love this! It’s on my list too.
Dashlinn - I didn’t like this until I read further and saw that you had the nn [name]Dash[/name] which I think is adorable on a girl. I do think that Dashlynn or another spelling form would make the name look more feminine though.
Darrielle - I don’t like this at all. Sorry!
[name]Cameron[/name] - I think this is a good name. I’ve always related it to a boy’s name, but I like it on a girl too.
[name]Zela[/name]- [name]How[/name] is this pronounced? If it’s [name]Zee[/name]-luh then I’m not a fan. Zah-luh is much better.

Middle Names:
[name]Grace[/name] - Very popular, but also very beautiful.
[name]Chantal[/name] - This is my name. (I love the comment before about how it can sound stripper-ish… haha! I’ve actually seen someone write that online about my name before too! [name]Trust[/name] me… not offended. I just thought it was funny.) Anyway, I always hated my name until the last few years. Now I’m starting to appreciate it more and more. I’ve spent my whole life fighting people spelling it wrong and saying it wrong (I get chan-tell a lot and I get the hard “ch” from most people who’s first language isn’t english. I think it would be great in the middle position though because she wouldn’t have to fight those.
[name]Yves[/name] - Not bad.
[name]Lyn[/name]- I think this is over-used and I (personally) don’t see anything special in it.

I like [name]Everly[/name] and Dashlinn the best. Good [name]Luck[/name]!

[name]Ashton[/name] – too masculine
[name]Everly[/name] – [name]LOVE[/name]!
Dashlinn – I am not a big fan of names with a -lyn tacked on, but I actually really like this. You might be able to spell it Dashline, but I don’t know if that is much better than Dashlinn. Dashlyn would be the most feminine looking, but it makes the name look trendy.
Darrielle – eh, don’t like it at all. Not quite in the “no its hideous” category, but close.
[name]Cameron[/name] – too masculine for me.
[name]Zela[/name] – This could be really cute. [name]How[/name] do you pronounce it?

The only middle I like is [name]Yves[/name] (and I adore that!) I am not a fan of [name]Chantal[/name], and [name]Grace[/name] and [name]Lyn[/name] are “filler” mns for me.

Congratulations!

[name]Ashton[/name]: This is way to masculine for me. I try and picture a sweet little girls face next to this name and I don’t think it does a little girl justice.
[name]Everly[/name]: Cute, have you thought of [name]Evelyn[/name]?
Dashlinn: I really don’t like the spelling but [name]Dash[/name] is cute. Maybe only one n.
Darrielle: [name]Don[/name]'t like this at all.
[name]Cameron[/name]: See [name]Ashton[/name].
[name]Zela[/name]: Probably my favorite if it’s pronounced Zeh-luh. [name]Zela[/name] [name]Chantal[/name] or [name]Zela[/name] [name]Grace[/name] would be so pretty.

Middles
[name]Grace[/name]: Very filler but beautiful, classic name nontheless.
[name]Chantal[/name]: Pretty.
[name]Yves[/name]: Interesting.
[name]Lyn[/name]: This name is very tired.

Favorites
[name]Zela[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Zela[/name] [name]Chantal[/name]
[name]Everly[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
Dashlin [name]Yves[/name]

I like the idea of the nn [name]Dash[/name], but I think Dashlinn is sort of formulaic and trendy sounding and not really my style. Have you considered [name]Dasha[/name] as an alternative to get to [name]Dash[/name]? You could even go with [name]Dasha[/name] [name]Lynn[/name] [name]Turner[/name]!!

Another option would be [name]Cassia[/name] which I [name]LOVE[/name]! nn would be [name]Cash[/name]!!!

I agree with the posters who love the nickname [name]Dash[/name] but aren’t feeling Dashlinn. It does sound nice, but it sounds so much like [name]Ashlyn[/name], which is a decidedly cheerleadery sort of a name.

[name]Dashiell[/name] is the boys’ name from whence [name]Dash[/name] is commonly derived. I think a feminization of [name]Dashiell[/name] – like Dashiella or Dashielline – is a lot more interesting, less obvious, more rooted in a legitimate name and just cooler sounding than Dashlinn.

I also like leysin’s choice, [name]Dasha[/name].

All these names bar [name]Zela[/name] look like boy’s names to me. Although I know that [name]Camryn[/name] is an old Welsh girl’s name though but I prefer it for a boy.

[name]Ashton[/name] is a handsome, modern boy’s name and I would choose [name]Aisha[/name] instead.
[name]Everly[/name] reminds me of the [name]Everly[/name] Brothers
Dashlinn a cross between [name]Dashiell[/name], the boy’s name and [name]Lyn[/name]
Darielle sounds made up to me but I like the unusual [name]Darien[/name] for a girl, the only one I have ever met had red hair.
[name]Zela[/name] I have never heard of this name

The middles of [name]Grace[/name] and [name]Chantal[/name] are lovely but [name]Yves[/name] is a boy’s name and [name]Lyn[/name] is dated.

If you want a Welsh kind of name then [name]Zeta[/name] [name]Camryn[/name] may suit you

I would choose [name]Evelyn[/name], [name]Eve[/name] or [name]Eva[/name] over [name]Everly[/name] and my combo would be [name]Eva[/name] [name]Grace[/name] or [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Grace[/name]

I think the name [name]Aisha[/name] would suit your daughter beautifully, it is a totally feminine name with an exotic flavour and while unusual is a known name that people in general will accept. [name]Aisha[/name] [name]Grace[/name] would be lovely.

[name]Yvette[/name] [name]Chantal[/name] would be charming and has a lovely French flavour.

If you love [name]Dash[/name] I would definitely keep it for a boy in the form of [name]Dashiell[/name], and I think it is a handsome boy’s name.

If you want a unisex style name then the following may suit you:

[name]Avalon[/name] nn of [name]Ava[/name] this is a favourite of mine, [name]Avalon[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Bellamy[/name] nn of [name]Belle[/name] another favourite, [name]Bellamy[/name] [name]Chantal[/name]
[name]Amity[/name] [name]Louise[/name] nn of [name]Amy[/name]
[name]Blake[/name]
[name]Elliott[/name] nn of [name]Elle[/name]
[name]Riley[/name] now gone to the girl’s not a favourite of mine though
[name]Alexis[/name]
Unisex
[name]Courtney[/name]
[name]Paige[/name]
French
[name]Fleur[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
Naturey
[name]Fern[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]
Unusual
[name]Anthea[/name] nn [name]Thea[/name]
[name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Zoe[/name]
[name]Gabrielle[/name] a really lovely name and I would use in place of Darielle and either [name]Gabrielle[/name] [name]Grace[/name] or [name]Gabrielle[/name] [name]Chantal[/name] fit

[name]Hope[/name] you don’t mind my honesty and I hope that some of my suggestions are pleasing to you.

rollo

Haha ever seen the aussie show [name]Blue[/name] Heelers? I’m sure there was a girl on that called [name]Dash[/name]! It’s actually a girl’s name in it’s own right, I believe. I also like the idea of [name]Dasha[/name]. You could go a step further than that and follow the Russians with Dashah!

I love the feedback, it has truly made me assess my choices!

you all are right, I love Dashlinn but something about the way it flows makes me feel like its not the most feminine…[name]Dasha[/name] [name]Lynn[/name] is pretty but hubby says, just like everybody(lol) that lynn is too popular…what would go well with [name]Dasha[/name] other than [name]Lynn[/name]? Dashline is beautiful but i wonder if ppl will call her Dashleen phonetically? Dashiellin is also very pretty to me, but how is it pronounced? Dashelleen?

[name]Zela[/name] is pronounced zehla …

my shortlist is now

Dashlinn [name]Grace[/name] (Dashiellin?)
Dashlinn [name]Yves[/name]
[name]Zela[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Everly[/name] [name]Chantal[/name]

I think I will have to see her to tell! Of those of you that have babies, did you wait to see them and get a feel for their personality before setting a name or did you pre-decide?!

I choose [name]Zela[/name] [name]Grace[/name]

Hmm – a lot of great ideas on this thread!

I’m loving [name]Dash[/name] for a girl, and think there has to be a way to get there. I agree, something seems off-kilter with the spelling Dashlinn. I like the idea of [name]Dasha[/name]. Or how about Dashielle? This is going to be an invented name – there is no hiding that. So just make the best invention you can. If you like the “lyn” sound, go with Dashlyn, I would say. Otherwise – Dashielle.

I like other names on your list, but you seem to be leaning toward something that could become [name]Dash[/name], and I think that’s darling for a girl. If you use Dashlyn, I think [name]Chantal[/name] is cool. (I often have issues with [name]Chantal[/name], but not here.) [name]Grace[/name] would also work. While [name]Grace[/name] is too popular in the middle, for me it is going too far to say it is “filler.” [name]Lynn[/name] (any spelling), however, is part of my own generation, and that means (for me) stay away young mothers! If you were to use Dashielle, you can’t repeat those sounds in [name]Chantal[/name]. Out of your choices, [name]Grace[/name] would be best. I think [name]Yves[/name] is rather cool – even if it is a boys’ name. Who says the girls can’t steal it?

Hello! Congrats on your baby girl!

It might help to know where in the US you live. In some places, parents are more liberal with naming their children, so it helps to know where your child would place amongst the others.

[name]Ashton[/name] - Too masculine for me, and besides, most names beginning with [name]Ash[/name] sound quite dated. I actually know a girl named [name]Ashton[/name], and she said people always thought she was a boy first.
[name]Everly[/name] - I really like this. It’s very sweet and not too common!
Dashlinn - Honestly, I don’t like this. The “dash” part sounds too masculine, and overall, it just looks too made-up to take seriously.
Darrielle - I don’t like this at all. At first glance I thought it was [name]Danielle[/name].
[name]Cameron[/name] - This is okay. [name]Just[/name] that, it seems very 90s to me.
[name]Zela[/name] - Not sure about this. It has a futuristic tone to it. [name]How[/name] is it said? I think you’d have pronunciation problems.

[name]Grace[/name] - Generic, but not bad. I think it’d make a lovely first name as well.
[name]Chantal[/name] - I actually like this, too. But like some others said, be careful with it. It can sound kind of whorish.
[name]Yves[/name] - I thought this was a man’s name? Why not [name]Eve[/name], [name]Yvette[/name], [name]Yvonne[/name]? I don’t really like this one tbh.
[name]Lyn[/name] - Generic again. And kind of boring, too. If you do use it though, I really suggest spelling it [name]Lynn[/name].

In total, the whole boy name for a girl trend is fading. In my opinion I’d choose something more feminine or at least unisex. But again, it is your child. [name]Just[/name] remember that many times, a person’s name makes their first impression to others. So while I do like [name]Chantal[/name] and [name]Cameron[/name], I could think something misleading upon first meeting.

Others you may like:
[name]Lark[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Acacia[/name]
[name]Isolde[/name]
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Ainsley[/name]
[name]Carmen[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Rachelle[/name] or [name]Rochelle[/name]
Xylia
[name]Zinnia[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name]

I saw above that some posters suggested Dashielle, and I must say I like that much better than Dashlinn.

[name]Hope[/name] that helps!

I think there are a few names that could go with [name]Dasha[/name]. Out of the middle names you’ve listed I think [name]Dasha[/name] [name]Grace[/name] sounds really pretty.

[name]Yves[/name] is quite the mystery one!!

Its one that has stuck with me since i was in my teens…with the little accent over it that I cannot replicate I think it is elegant, feminine and a variation to the spelling of the name [name]Eve[/name] which i love but feel is too common and simple of a spelling…

btw to poster who asked, we live in california although she may possibly attend school in england when she is 11+…we are thinking of moving back…

Dashielle is adorable!!!

when she is grown I will tell her about this experience!

Have you decided on Dashielle mn [name]Grace[/name]?

I like [name]Everly[/name] [name]Grace[/name], it sounds beautiful!
