Hello berries,
What are your thoughts on [name_m]Fitz[/name_m]? I’m not too keen on any longer forms, so I guess it would be just [name_m]Fitz[/name_m]. Can it work on its own? Is it too nicknamey? What does it remind you of?
Thanks in advance!
I like the name on it’s own and I like it better then any names it would be a nickname for. It reminds me of Swiss Family [name_m]Robinson[/name_m] because one of the sons is named [name_m]Fritz[/name_m], which is a little different, but close enough to remind me of the movie.
I love [name_m]Fitz[/name_m]! I think it’s one of those cool short names that are in style right now (think [name_m]Fox[/name_m], [name_m]Dex[/name_m], [name_u]Rex[/name_u], [name_m]Jed[/name_m] etc) but it also has some classic feel to it. It could definitely work on its own! Since I’m a dumb teenager the first thing that comes to mind is a youtuber with the name, but I have no other associations with it.
Thanks ladies!
I like it and think it works as a stand alone name, although I do kind of hear fits, as in tantrums.
I love [name_m]Fitz[/name_m]! I use it as a nickname for [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. I like it since [name_m]Fitz[/name_m] just means “son”, while [name_m]Felix[/name_m] has a more complete meaning (“lucky”).
I love [name_m]Fitz[/name_m]! Though I prefer it as a nickname for one of the full names, since it means “son of” - [name_m]Fitzpatrick[/name_m] = [name_m]Son[/name_m] of [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m] = [name_m]Son[/name_m] of [name_m]Gerald[/name_m], etc… though it may be weird to use “[name_m]Son[/name_m] of [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]” if his father isn’t [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]
It’s pretty nice but it seems a bit like a prefix to me, I think I prefer [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] as a standalone name.
[name_m]Fitz[/name_m] totally work on it’s own. The most effective short names are ones that pack some punch or have zip. [name_m]Fitz[/name_m] definitely works in that department.
I like it! No associations personally but I think it is fine on its own.
I think it’s a cute name and it could work, mostly because I think most people don’t have the hang-up about it that I do: [name_m]Fitz[/name_m] was used as a prefix to indicate illegitimacy, so that son could not inherit the land/title. That’s always my first thought when I hear a [name_m]Fitz[/name_m] name, especially on its own.
[name_m]Fitz[/name_m] can totally stand alone. I love [name_m]Fitz[/name_m] and in the past I was looking for a longer name too and couldn’t find anything that I liked enough. Now I think [name_m]Fitz[/name_m] is totally handsome and classy on it’s own and adorable on a baby/kid! I am between [name_m]Fox[/name_m]/[name_m]Fitz[/name_m]/[name_f]Flick[/name_f] as a nn for a future [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. [name_m]Fitz[/name_m] would work with [name_m]Desmond[/name_m] ([name_m]Des[/name_m]), [name_u]Jules[/name_u], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ([name_u]Theo[/name_u]/[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]), [name_m]Dex[/name_m] etc.
I want to like it - it has cool, fun guy associations - but I think because of that I imagine a player/cad having this name.
I can’t like it for the same reason (well, one of a few reasons) that I can’t like ‘[name_u]Van[/name_u]’ as a name; to me, it is a prefix and not a stand-alone name, and it makes the person’s whole name sound like a surname. Granted, I’m biased as someone who wears a ‘van -’ surname. This is obviously worse if you have a firstnamey last name, like [name_m]Williams[/name_m] or Simons e.g.
[name_m]Fitz[/name_m] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] = [name_m]FitzWilliam[/name_m]
[name_m]Fitz[/name_m] Simons = FitzSimon
or if you have a diminutive surname already like McAllister or O’[name_u]Reilly[/name_u] e.g
[name_m]Fitz[/name_m] McAllister
[name_m]Fitz[/name_m] O’[name_u]Reilly[/name_u]
While it has an on-trend style and sound, the above characteristics make it unusable for me, and I also feel quite strongly about name meanings, and giving a child a name that’s traditionally a prefix and just means ‘of’, or ‘from’ doesn’t really make the cut for me. However, to each their own - definitely better than another Kaydyn, [name_u]Aydin[/name_u], etc!
Thanks everyone! I actually did not know [name_m]Fitz[/name_m] was used for illegitimate children, but it doesn’t bother me as I don’t think such things matter in the 21st century.
I think [name_m]Fitz[/name_m] is lovely as a standalone first name.
Works great as a stand-alone! I love it.
[name_m]Fitz[/name_m]… fits as in seizures?
Or [name_f]Honey[/name_f] [name_m]Fitz[/name_m] as Pres. [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u]'s grandfather?
“[name_m]John[/name_m] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] “[name_f]Honey[/name_f] [name_m]Fitz[/name_m]” [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m] ([name_f]February[/name_f] 11, 1863 – [name_f]October[/name_f] 2, 1950) was an American politician, father of [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u]”
What’s wrong with [name_m]Fritz[/name_m]?
