Five girls and now a boy, but we can't decide on a name!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there. I’m new to this baby name forum, although I’ve been a member of other baby forums in the past. My husband and I currently expecting our first baby boy, due in [name_u]January[/name_u]. We already have five daughters. Naming the girls was fairly easy, and my husband let me take the lead. This time around, with our son, he has much stronger opinions. Obviously we are trying to find a compromise, but so far nothing.

Our five girls are Libba ([name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]), [name_f]Millie[/name_f] ([name_f]Emilia[/name_f]), [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] ([name_f]Lucy[/name_f]), [name_u]Allie[/name_u] ([name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]), and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] ([name_f]Sarah[/name_f]).

For our son, I love traditional names like [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Charles[/name_m], and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. Husband likes more (what I consider to be) trendy/popular names like [name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_m]Ethan[/name_m], and [name_u]Aidan[/name_u]. These names are ok, just not what I want for our son. Neither one of us seem willing to compromise much, so I guess I’m looking for any help/suggestions/advice you may have. Thank you!

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], and _____: *-I strongly recommend

[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]* nn [name_m]Ben[/name_m], [name_u]Jay[/name_u], or Enjay

[name_m]Patrick[/name_m]* nn rickie, aric, or pax

Congratulations!

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] and:

([name_m]Andrew[/name_m]), ([name_m]Charles[/name_m]), [name_m]Edward[/name_m], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], ([name_u]James[/name_u]), [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], [name_m]Louis[/name_m], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_m]Philip[/name_m], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Timothy[/name_m], [name_m]Victor[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m]

I noticed that each of the names you listed as being your husband’s style end in the -an/-en/-on sound. Maybe your husband would like a name that had that same ending but that was a bit more classic in style?

Off the top of my head I can think of:

[name_m]Simon[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Nathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]

Or, combining your likes with your husband’s -an/ -en / -on sound, maybe [name_m]Charlton[/name_m], [name_m]Charleston[/name_m], [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], [name_m]Anderson[/name_m], [name_m]Andersen[/name_m]?

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]? Classic but [name_u]Theo[/name_u] is pretty on-trend so maybe that will appeal to his taste?

Does your husband look on Nameberry? If he did, he would see how overused [name_u]Mason[/name_u] is, which is too bad, as it is a cool name.

Maybe have him look at #50-200 on the most popular names. As a teacher, I would be sad to see too many more Masons etc. coming down the pike.

One doesn’t want to be named [name_m]Cadwallader[/name_m] maybe, but one also doesn’t want to be one of 5 billion Cadens.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for all of the great suggestions. I am going to bring them to him and see what he can figure out!

What lovely names your girls’ have! It sounds like he wants his son to have a “cool” name. Nothing wrong with that. My husband leans toward non classic names as well. Here are a few suggestions:

[name_m]Walt[/name_m]/[name_m]Walton[/name_m]/[name_m]Walter[/name_m]
[name_m]Bennett[/name_m]
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_u]Gus[/name_u]
[name_m]Dax[/name_m]
[name_m]Callan[/name_m]/[name_u]Cal[/name_u]
[name_m]Zeke[/name_m]
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_m]Declan[/name_m]
[name_m]Ian[/name_m]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_m]Harris[/name_m]
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]/[name_m]Nate[/name_m]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m]
[name_u]Sam[/name_u]/[name_m]Samuel[/name_m]
[name_u]Dexter[/name_u]

[name_u]Everett[/name_u] is one that came to mind that might appeal to both of you that I haven’t seen suggested yet. [name_u]Everett[/name_u] sounds modern but has history behind him. I love your girls’ names btw.
