[name_m]Long[/name_m] time lurker here who finally has a reason to post!
I’m currently in the process of adopting a little girl currently named [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. It’s not a name I would have picked myself for a child, but in other circumstances I still wouldn’t have changed it, however, my dog is called [name_f]Lily[/name_f], so I really don’t want them to have the same name! She’s very young, her social worker has given me the okay to change it, and I think she will pick up on her new name quickly.
I’m looking for something flowery, so that some of the connection is still there. She’ll keep her middle name, which is [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. The surname is 2 syllables, and begins with a D. At the moment, I like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], but I’m not sure if its ‘the one’. I also like the first names [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but I’m not sure how they sound with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. What do you all think? Any suggestions?
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is lovely! I find [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] to be very cutesy though, but it fits the bill. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is my favourite one from your options, but how about:
Some are a little out there than others, or less obvious, but I think the above are good! My favourite would have to be [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is great.
You could also consider going with something that means lily. That way more of the connection will be there. Though I do have to say that I love the choice of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]–it’s my favorite of the ones you are considering so far.
Other names that mean [name_f]Lily[/name_f]:
[name_f]Susan[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Shoshanna[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilianna[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (I know this is pretty similar to [name_f]Lily[/name_f], but it’s different enough that you could call her a different nickname, such as [name_f]Lia[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f])
I love [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], and also pp’s suggestions of [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Holly[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is too cutesy imo, but if you live in [name_f]England[/name_f], it is kinda trending.
I love the suggestion of [name_f]Calla[/name_f], as you can call her [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] for awhile and then drop the latter part for a smooth transition. I think that [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is darling, though I don’t care for [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. I also like the [name_f]Susan[/name_f]- suggestions, perhaps with the nickname [name_f]Susette[/name_f] <3 You may also like:
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is great! I love floral names, other suggestions:
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Camellia[/name_f] is a favorite, but you’d probably want a different middle name.
[name_f]Briar[/name_f]
[name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Lavendar[/name_f]
Are you against switching her name around with minimum altering?
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Liliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Lilian[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Lilias[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f]
or moving [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] to her first name and adding a C for [name_f]Camellia[/name_f] (still has her middle name and floral) with a nickname possibility being [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. And giving her another middle name you love.
You could think of doing [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] as her first name instead too and move [name_f]Lily[/name_f] to the middle, so she can keep both. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] doesn’t sound bad… Otherwise I like [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] the best.
Depending on how old she is, you could ask her what flower/floral-y name she wants (or give her options of one’s you like best to puck out of).
With that said, I really like [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] or [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. [name_f]Orchid[/name_f], [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], or [name_f]Lotus[/name_f] would be beautiful as well.
I also like the pp suggestion of using a name that means [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or a longer version of [name_f]Lily[/name_f] ([name_f]Lilla[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]).
What about [name_f]Lys[/name_f]? (it’s [name_f]Lily[/name_f] in [name_m]French[/name_m] and we pronounce it [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-ss).
Or maybe Asphodel, [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f], [name_f]Eglantine[/name_f], [name_f]Capucine[/name_f], [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f], [name_f]Muguet[/name_f], Pivoine, Wildrose?
My first thought is [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], although I don’t know if you find that too similar to your dog’s. I feel as though [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] might be a step too far away from the original name. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though you might see the floral connection, a young child might not and would feel as though they suddenly had a completely different name. It might be best to stick to something similar, like [name_f]Lila[/name_f] or [name_f]Layla[/name_f] or something along those lines, in order to help keep the child comfortable.
I think [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] would be a great alternative to [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and would still keep the floral connection. And it shares a lot of the same phonetics as the name [name_f]Lily[/name_f] so it probably wouldn’t be too difficult of a transition for her.
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f] and [name_f]Zahara[/name_f] are less obvious floral choices
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] also comes to mind and there is always [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]
@Chrisco – I love the suggestion of [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] to become [name_f]Calla[/name_f] but unfortunately, I really don’t like the name [name_f]Calla[/name_f]. I’ve tried to like it, but I really, really don’t. I also adore the name [name_f]Posy[/name_f], but I don’t really like any of the natural longer versions, and I don’t know if I could use it by itself.
@eoxima I like the suggestions of [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Holly[/name_f], [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] and [name_f]Bryony[/name_f]!
@germaniris I did consider going with something that means [name_f]Lily[/name_f], but I don’t really like any that I’ve found so far.
@natural & @moondreams – Changing her name to just [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is an option at the moment. I also like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f].
@mccharlie – [name_f]Lys[/name_f] is lovely, but I think it would be butchered to sound like [name_f]Liz[/name_f] here.
@alchemicallypurplefairy – I am considering [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] at the moment as well. To be honest, she’s so young that she doesn’t know her name, and might not for a few months yet, so I don’t think changing her name will make her uncomfortable.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is very pretty. I also really like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. Good luck!
I think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] Lilybeth is stunning.
Could you go from [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] to [name_f]Posy[/name_f] (this is originally how [name_f]Posy[/name_f] was used, as a pet from of [name_f]Josephine[/name_f])? Or from [name_f]Polina[/name_f] to [name_f]Posy[/name_f]? Or from [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] to [name_f]Posy[/name_f]? Or from [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] to [name_f]Posy[/name_f]? Or from [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] to [name_f]Posy[/name_f]? I think those would work.
