I’ve started to really love the name [name_f]Florence[/name_f]. I like all of the associations with the name and the possible nickname [name_u]Ren[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] only problem with the name is the possible nickname [name_f]Flo[/name_f], which I find awful.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think that [name_f]Flo[/name_f] could be avoided if you named a baby [name_f]Florence[/name_f]? If you know any younger Florences, do they ever get called [name_f]Flo[/name_f]?
I know a couple Florences. I’ve never heard any of them called [name_f]Flo[/name_f]. One is [name_f]Flora[/name_f], and the other doesn’t use a nickname.
I think it’s avoidable - it actually doesn’t come naturally to me at all so maybe that’s why.
I’m a fan of [name_f]Flossie[/name_f]/[name_f]Florrie[/name_f] which you might not love if you don’t want [name_f]Flo[/name_f], but they’re much prettier imo (I know a little [name_f]Florence[/name_f] nn [name_f]Flossie[/name_f] so I may be biased; the floss association just isn’t there for me anymore). Fliss might work? I always thought that was sweet. [name_f]Lori[/name_f] could work, that’s quite adorable.
[name_u]Ren[/name_u] could work, but most people would hear [name_u]Wren[/name_u] I think since the ‘ren’ sound in [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is quite different and I don’t know how it would go down. You could probably give it a shot.
Generally, as long as you give her your “approved” nickname, kids will call her that nickname. Kids with long names that don’t have a nickname get “assigned” one. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom tried to get people to call me [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]. Not [name_f]Jenny[/name_f], Not [name_f]Jen[/name_f]. [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]. They didn’t. But when she caved on [name_f]Jen[/name_f] to avoid her dreaded “[name_f]Jenny[/name_f]”, they called me [name_f]Jen[/name_f]. Very rarely did anyone call me something else.
