Hey all I’ve noticed in the forums that there are some seriously varied opinions on the name [name_f]Florence[/name_f], and I was hoping to get some individual takes. What do you think? I’m on the fence, to be honest. I saw it as very clunky and too “old-fashioned” (though that rarely stops me now, haha) for a long time, but now I’m starting to see that it has more of a sweet, vintage charm than I originally thought, so I’ve been giving it quite a bit of consideration lately.
I’m so curious to hear your opinions! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Florence[/name_f]?
I personally really like [name_f]Florence[/name_f]. It’s very pretty and I love the [name_f]Flor[/name_f]- beginning since I’m a little obsessed with flowers. Combo-wise, something like [name_f]Florence[/name_f] should probably go with a lighter, shorter middle name (and if you’re going for two mns, like I see you have in your signature, a longer one after the short one!)
I love the name [name_f]Florence[/name_f]. It’s our cat’s name but I hope that doesn’t deter you! I like saying it every day and it still maintains that vintage charming feel. People always perk up too when I tell them her name–it’s a surprising and cute choice. Nicknames could be hard. I call her [name_f]Flo[/name_f] but not sure I’d want to call a little girl that. Anyway, it’s very pretty and if you’re at all worried, it would make a great middle name.
I like [name_f]Florence[/name_f], it’s very sophisticated; however, I personally find a bit mature which is the reason I prefer [name_f]Flora[/name_f]. [name_f]Florence[/name_f] just feels a tad too elegant and grown up for a little girl who loves to play outside in the mud, wears her brother’s clothes and uses words she’s not supposed to but that are just too funny to her.
Now you never know what kind of kid you’ll get and [name_f]Florence[/name_f], while extremely lovely, just isn’t versitile enough for me, personally.
(Though of course you could always call [name_f]Florence[/name_f] by different nicknames if her full name doesn’t seem to fit her current personality, still, I perfer the youthfulness of [name_f]Flora[/name_f] myself.)
I adore the name [name_f]Florence[/name_f]!! It’s been on my list every time since I was about 15 (so almost 6 years), and I would name my daughter [name_f]Florence[/name_f] in a heartbeat - if S/O liked it. He’s not a fan, here it’s still an undiscovered old-fashioned name, and while older names are popular where I live, short, sweet/punchy ones are in favour here. [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] - etc.
Personally, I don’t like [name_f]Florence[/name_f]. To me it feels really stuffy.
I’m personally not a huge fan of [name_f]Florence[/name_f]. It immediately makes me think of the city in [name_f]Italy[/name_f] and just seems so heavy for a child. I like some older names, but it is not personally a name I would use; however, if you like it, use it!
I find [name_f]Florence[/name_f] very dainty and classic; if it was a colour it’d be lilac, or perhaps creamy white. Seems to be used more as a middle name than a first, which is a pity.
I have always thought of the connection to the place to be a positive, much like a literary namesake in a [name_m]Charles[/name_m] Dickens novel.
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] is a recent addition to my list. We’ve already decided on a girl’s name if that’s what this baby turns out to be, but we will be considering [name_f]Florence[/name_f] next time around. It’s so beautiful without being frilly.
I am not personally a fan of the name [name_f]Florence[/name_f]. Although this impression may be based upon personal experience, I find this name a tad too haughty and sophisticated. Perhaps a different floral name such as [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], or [name_f]Violet[/name_f] would be more well-suited.
