Flower middle name for Rosalie - Yes or no?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] guys, What do you think of [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]? Since [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is [name_m]French[/name_m] for daisy, does it come up as too much or too cutesy? Our last name is one syllable. I love the sound of those two names together, and [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] would be in honor of a family member (it being her favorite flower), but yeah… Can we have two flowers?

Thanks!

I think it’s fine. I wouldn’t have known it was a flower if you hadn’t said anything. I think it is discreet enough but I would steer clear of anything more obvious than this i.e [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] or some such.

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] sounds perfect! If I’m honest I wouldn’t even recognize [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] as a flower name, then again I’m not [name_m]French[/name_m]. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t let anyone deter you - go with your heart!!

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is absolutely stunning . I don’t think you will have NY problem with this . Its perfect.

Thanks! Since we live in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] though, there are quite a few [name_m]French[/name_m] speakers around here. I wonder what they would think… Would [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (to use a fully English equivalent) be too much then?

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]. Wouldn’t associate it with a flower either but understand the concern.

Are you set on [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]?

Nothing is set in stone until the baby is here, but it is our current favorite.

Any more thoughts?

I was going to say it’s fine because most people would not know that [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is [name_m]French[/name_m] for daisy, but then when you mentioned you lived in [name_f]Canada[/name_f], I would have to say… no. Your example to put it more in perspective ([name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]) seals the deal - it IS too much.

Unfortunately, my advice to you is you have to decide which you like better/is more important to you and go with that one and choose a different name to be paired with it.

I think it sounds nice, most people (english speaking) don’t know [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is a flower name. It may be a little strange to Fench speakers though I guess.

If the middle name honors someone you love, it doesn’t matter what other people think. Personal significance trumps flow or repetition or anything else and few people are likely to know both of her names anyway.

In other words, [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is perfect.

Definately! [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] are so beautiful together!

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is breathtaking.

[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is not obviously flowery so it works. I think it’s beautiful that you want to honor a loved one in this way.

Besides, how many people are actually going to know your child’s full name? Most people don’t, since people usually just go by their first name. I wouldn’t worry about it being too much and I really like the combination.

[name_f]My[/name_f] Mum’s name is [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Dawn[/name_f] Lovegrove. i love it! [name_m]Even[/name_m] though she sounds like she is in a [name_m]Mills[/name_m] and [name_m]Boon[/name_m] novel.

+1. Not everyone will know your baby’s middle name. But if it bothers YOU then maybe you should reconsider. If you don’t mind and love it anyway, then use it.

I may be a bit biased towards [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] in any combination but [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is absolutely beautiful ([name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is on my long list, and [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is a favourite of mine) - the flower connection is not obvious to anyone who doesn’t speak [name_m]French[/name_m]/doesn’t know and the middle name wouldn’t come up often enough for it to be an issue anyway.

PS. I’m glad to hear someone else is doing the “flower meaning to honour someone whose favourite flower it is” middle - I’ve gone for [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] (‘lily’) with the same idea!

It’s a bit much but I agree that if you love it you should use it because the middle spot is the place for a name of significance regardless of other factors

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is stunning… I also think [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] would be fine… but I don’t speak English or [name_m]French[/name_m].

Thanks! It’s true that few people would know her middle name anyway, and even if they did, it wouldn’t be a source of teasing I think. People might just think we’re really into flowers. Otherwise, to honor my mom, we could use her name (dated/very baby boomer-ish) or its Greek goddess name equivalent (over the top!). Nah, this combo is staying on our list as is I think. Thanks again!

I agree with this post
