[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite boys name at the moment is [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_u]Rory[/name_u] (lastname), I was looking up the meaning of all the names on my list and realised that both [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] have a meaning with the word [name_u]Red[/name_u] in them. [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] means son of the red-haired one and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] means red king. I was just wondering if its strange to have two names in one that both have the same word in the meaning?
Also doesn’t red king mean red-haired king?
I don’t think name meanings matter that much, unless they are literal or at least obvious to a person who isn’t interested in etymology. If he was [name_m]Redmond[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Rufus[/name_m], maybe that would give me a pause.
Hmm is he even likely to have red hair?? Not sure if that would make it better or worse. Might be overkill if he is, but odd if he’s not. You could switch out [name_u]Rory[/name_u] for something like [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], [name_m]Harvey[/name_m], [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], …?
I do love the combo though. As well as [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] [name_m]Grant[/name_m]!
I guess the meanings are kind of redundant, but they don’t come from the same root so it doesn’t bother me. Plus, the average [name_m]Joe[/name_m] won’t realize
Sorry I didn’t reply earlier, I forgot I had even asked this question. There are only two people in my family who have red hair, both are not in my immediate family so one of my children could have red hair but there’s only a very slim chance. Thanks for all the positive feedback on the combo and I have realised that the meanings aren’t the be-all and end-all.
I wouldn’t worry about it? I’m usually adamantly against having more than one form of the same name on my list, unless it honors family (I’m very torn about having both [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] on my list together!), but [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] are different names, and they don’t scream the same meaning. I love your combo–[name_u]Flynn[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_u]Rory[/name_u] is so handsome!
Thank you [name_f]Lise[/name_f]! [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is a family name. It was my grandfather’s first name and he died before I was born so I never got to meet him so its a very special name to me, it’s also my little cousins first name and it’s a tradition in my family to have a middle name that is a family name so I really want to carry the tradition on. However this makes it a little difficult to find names that work well and have a nice flow to them so I glad people like my combo. Thanks for helping out.
