I used to prefer [name]Finn[/name] by a long shot, but [name]Flynn[/name] has really grown on me. [name]Finn[/name] has been my favorite boy’s name for a long time now, and the fact that it’s rising in popularity doesn’t bother me much. What does bother me is that people tend to think it’s insubstantial, or it makes them think of a fin. I think it’s light, friendly and laid back. I think [name]Flynn[/name] has the same cool, laid back and friendly vibe, but with a bit more edge, which I like. I think maybe [name]Flynn[/name] will age better. But I’m also worried people will assume [name]Flynn[/name] is a girl because of the [name]Lynn[/name] aspect. What would you think if you met a baby named [name]Finn[/name] or [name]Flynn[/name]? What about a teenager, someone in their 20s, 40s, 80s?
I’ve always preferred [name]Flynn[/name] to [name]Finn[/name]. [name]Flynn[/name] does seem more complete and less fishy to me, and I don’t think it sounds feminine at all.
I prefer [name]Finn[/name] by a long shot. [name]Flynn[/name] seems made up to me, even though I know it’s not. I’m considering [name]Finn[/name] for a boy too. Are you interested in naming him [name]Phineas[/name]? Although I think [name]Finn[/name] stands out great on his own!
But that could just be me…My son’s name is [name]Kai[/name], which other people already think is too short, but we love it! ([name]Rhys[/name] and [name]Theo[/name] are also on our list…more super short names…so I think it just depends on your naming style).
Haha, two opposite opinions. That’s sort of how I expected this to go! [name]Just[/name] like my brain battling itself.
I don’t like [name]Phineas[/name] at all. I sort of like [name]Finnigan[/name], but not enough to use it I don’t think. Seems backwards I suppose, but to me [name]Finnigan[/name] seems like a diminutive of [name]Finn[/name]. I think I’d name him [name]Finn[/name] and call him [name]Finnigan[/name] a lot. My mom calls my brother [name]Jeffrey[/name] “[name]Jefferson[/name]”.
I love the name [name]Kai[/name]! AND [name]Rhys[/name] and [name]Theo[/name]! And [name]Leo[/name], for that matter! People actually tell you that [name]Kai[/name] is too short? What were you supposed to do? Make up a name for it to be short for?
I’m with you. I love both and find it hard to choose between the two. I think that [name]Flynn[/name], however, might edge [name]Finn[/name] out for me just a bit. That’s a fairly recent change for me. Like a pp said, there’s just something that makes [name]Flynn[/name] feel more complete.
I think [name]Finn[/name] is much more sweet sounding. It seems a little boyish (probably reminds me of [name]Huckleberry[/name] [name]Finn[/name]). [name]Flynn[/name] feels like a “bad boy” name to me. Like a good name for a skater kid or a gambler or something. [name]Just[/name] talking pure gut feeling here… Good luck!
Haha a few people gave us looks when we told him his name and asked how we spelled it or what it was short for, but that was when we lived in [name]Texas[/name].
We live in [name]Hawaii[/name] now and it almost seems like every other baby is named [name]Kai[/name]! So I think it just depends on where you live…people go eccentric with names in [name]Hawaii[/name]. [name]Kai[/name] is in the top 20 here. As far as his nickname, we actually call him [name]Kaiser[/name] [name]Roll[/name] because he was so chunky when he was a baby. His name suits him, he has really pretty blue eyes. [name]Finn[/name] or [name]Flynn[/name] would fit well here. People actually look at you crazy if your kid has a top 20 name.
[name]Just[/name] at the pool yesterday I met [name]Nash[/name], [name]Bono[/name], [name]Sunny[/name] [name]Rose[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Leila[/name] and [name]Cyrus[/name].
Good luck, and [name]Finnegan[/name] is a great full name!
We are naming our son due in Sept [name]Finnegan[/name] and probably calling him [name]Finn[/name]. We’ve loved this name for about the past 10 years and have decided to go ahead with using it despite it’s recent growing popularity. So obviously I prefer [name]Finn[/name] over [name]Flynn[/name]!
We did consider [name]Flynn[/name] too but my husband has a weird negative association with [name]Flynn[/name]. Also, it is the main male character’s name in Tangled/Rapunzel ([name]Flynn[/name] [name]Ryder[/name]) and I’ve heard chatter that it too is growing in popularity, if that is something that you are concerned about.
