[name_f]My[/name_f] grandfather had the initials (and just the initials–he didn’t have a full FN or MN) L. B., and I’ve always wanted to honor him, but disliked the idea of just using two initials. The obvious answer is to use the initials L. B.–do you have any ideas for a full name with the initials LB? So far, I’ve tossed around [name_m]Linus[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], and [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] (even maybe [name_m]Linus[/name_m] ____ Brave or [name_m]Leo[/name_m] _____ Brave. [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] Brave, maybe?). Any other ideas that would fit into this category? I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f] names, but I’m not sure how I feel about [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]/[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]/[name_f]Liliana[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]…
I also like [name_m]Lemuel[/name_m] but nobody else tends to. >.>
Girls
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is quite beautiful actually, as is [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f] [name_f]Bee[/name_f] - I know you said you didn’t like just L.B. but I actually like [name_f]Bee[/name_f] as a gentle nature name? Bees being so feminine and so vital to the world…? I’ll shut up now.
[name_u]Lee[/name_u] [name_f]Briar[/name_f] - I find -ley as a suffix played out but I am fond of [name_u]Lee[/name_u] itself.
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] Betony
Alternate idea for a girl: [name_f]Elle[/name_f] [name_f]Bee[/name_f]? You might hate that though…? Too cute?
haha, [name_f]Elle[/name_f] [name_f]Bee[/name_f] is probably a wee bit too cute. I used to have [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] on my list, though, and claimed honoring my grandfather, because it has the “elle” and “bee” sounds in it. I’m not sure about [name_f]Bee[/name_f], but I don’t mind [name_f]Bea[/name_f]. I wouldn’t use [name_f]Bea[/name_f] up front (or even as a nn for [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], which I really like), but I sort of like it as a middle, and had considered [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f] (or even [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f]?). I do rather like it as a middle. Then again, several years ago I had a really great Scottish friend named [name_f]Bea[/name_f]; it has really good associations for me.
As an [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], I feel like [name_u]Lee[/name_u] is probably a bit off-limits for me (especially since I have an uncle [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] “[name_u]Lee[/name_u]”)…
I do rather like [name_f]Lena[/name_f] Betony, though, or even [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Bethany[/name_f], although [name_f]Lena[/name_f] Betony is much more unusual. I’ve thought about [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] and [name_m]Lyndon[/name_m]/[name_u]Linden[/name_u] and [name_m]Leander[/name_m], all of which I also like, but for some reason I can never seem to commit to [name_m]Lyndon[/name_m] (too presidential, maybe?), even though I have good associations with it and love the sound.
ha, yeah, I don’t think I could do [name_m]Lemuel[/name_m]. [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]'s such a huge favorite, and I think of the [name_m]Lemuel[/name_m] in the book of Proverbs. I don’t have a negative association with it, but I don’t have a great one, either. I just find [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] much more usable… and attractive.
I also [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Lark[/name_f] (or even the Danish form, Laerke–which is pronounced similar to LAIR-keh), but I never know what to pair with it. [name_f]Lark[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]/Laerke [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] just doesn’t seem quite right, and nature-ey names like [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] or Betony seem a bit too themed.
I stuck my foot in my mouth with the crack on -ley I was thinking of the [name_f]Kinley[/name_f]/[name_u]Hadley[/name_u] sort of names… [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] itself is not bad it’s the soundalikes that bug. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t hate meeeee!
[name_f]My[/name_f] only issue with [name_f]Bethany[/name_f]/Bethlehem is the meaning because I have enough Hebrew I can hear it. I keep hearing a Commodores cover but with “bread house” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrBx6mAWYPU.
For some reason I find [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] easier to pair than [name_f]Lark[/name_f]? Maybe I’m crazy. [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is cute. 1 syllable firsts are often challenging for me though.
Some middle name suggestions for girls: [name_f]Bianca[/name_f], [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], [name_f]Briar[/name_f], [name_f]Briony[/name_f] ([name_f]Bryony[/name_f]), [name_u]Brooke[/name_u].
What about [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_u]Brooke[/name_u]? I think it’s sweet!
If I was going to honour someone with the initials LB, It’d probably be [name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]/[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] Brave for a girl and [name_m]Levi[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] for a boy.
[name_u]Larkin[/name_u] for a boy? [name_u]Larkin[/name_u] Brave, [name_u]Larkin[/name_u] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_u]Larkin[/name_u] [name_m]Bram[/name_m], or even [name_u]Larkin[/name_u] [name_m]Levi[/name_m] [name_m]Bram[/name_m] to break up the n & m ending sounds.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Shelby[/name_u]? Like LB with Sh attached to the front. It’s a bit of a stretch though.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] a sidenote, there was a character called [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Linus[/name_m] in the TV series LOST, so it might pay to stay away from that.
Sorry for the broken/muddled thoughts, I’m rather sick and my brain is all fluy and fuzzy.
[name_f]EDIT[/name_f]: Looking at [name_u]Shelby[/name_u], I was thinking, [name_m]Elby[/name_m]? lightbulb glows throughout foggy brain [name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u]! Pronounced [name_u]Alvy[/name_u]/[name_f]Elvy[/name_f], it’s pretty cute.
I was [name_m]JUST[/name_m] going to post how happy I was that we had finally moved past [name_m]Ben[/name_m] [name_m]Linus[/name_m] and his infuriating curse on my beloved [name_m]Linus[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m].
And lol, @stripedsocks, you’re totally fine. I realize my name was the height of trendiness in its day, and I’m not 100% in love with it always, but I definitely didn’t take offense, I assumed you meant the whole Kenzlie/[name_f]Tinley[/name_f]/[name_m]Henley[/name_m]/Makinzley craze. I don’t lump [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] in with it, because it has that same naturey, English countryside vibe I get from [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], and I like the reference to [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] [name_m]Hemingway[/name_m]. If I didn’t have a strict no-unisex-names rule (and if it wasn’t so similar to [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]), I’d probably have it on my own list.
@jasmine.lee - I’ve considered something like [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_u]Blair[/name_u] “[name_m]Elby[/name_m]”, but [name_u]Shelby[/name_u] just isn’t my thing. Besides, one of my sister’s best friends is a girl named [name_u]Shelby[/name_u], so I’d feel weird using it for a child of mine. I [name_f]DO[/name_f], however, find [name_u]Larkin[/name_u] intriguing! I used to prefer it for a girl, but now I can’t really tell? I rather like [name_u]Larkin[/name_u] Brave/[name_u]Larkin[/name_u] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]. I like that it reminds me of [name_u]Bryce[/name_u] [name_u]Larkin[/name_u], from [name_m]Chuck[/name_m], too.
I also like [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], and like [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] _____ Brave (I think I had considered [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] Brave or [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] Brave at one point?), but I don’t think [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] fits on my list as well as some of the others I’ve been tossing around.
[name_m]Luke[/name_m] [name_m]Balthasar[/name_m] was the first name to come to mind… [name_m]Luke[/name_m] may be a bit too streamlined, but I love it <3 Other thoughts:
Leonard Bram - as {almost} mentioned above
Luke Benedict
Leonidas Blake
Lachlan Bram - I really like this
Leonor Birdie
Lark Bridget
[name_m]Balthasar[/name_m]!!! [name_f]My[/name_f] sister and I both have [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] names ([name_f]Marie[/name_f] and [name_f]Natalie[/name_f]), and I recently discovered a [name_m]German[/name_m] (I think) spelling of [name_m]Balthasar[/name_m] in my family tree, so I’ve been majorly crushing on [name_m]Balthasar[/name_m] lately (I’m not as keen on the [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] spelling). I don’t have the guts to use it up front, but I would love to find a spot for it as a MN. [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Balthasar[/name_m]? I am only slightly hesitant about using it, though, because I already have [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Gaspard[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] on my list, and [name_m]Gaspard[/name_m]/[name_m]Caspar[/name_m] is another of the [name_f]Magi[/name_f]. Would it be too much in a sibset?
I’ve been rather liking [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], lately, too, and like the idea of [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] [name_m]Balthasar[/name_m], but is it too much?
I am not a huge [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] fan, but I do like [name_f]Lenore[/name_f] (particularly as a MN, though), and [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Lenora[/name_f]! Maybe something like [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] [name_f]Bridie[/name_f]/[name_f]Lenora[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]/[name_f]Lenora[/name_f] [name_f]Bryony[/name_f]/[name_f]Lenora[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]/[name_f]Lenora[/name_f] [name_f]Bethany[/name_f]/[name_f]Lenora[/name_f] Betony? I feel like it needs a shorter middle, and I like [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] the best of the options, but I’m never terribly impressed with [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], sadly…
[name_m]Beau[/name_m]
[name_m]Balthazar[/name_m] (Okay, over-the-top, but I love him still)
[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]
[name_m]Benedict[/name_m]
[name_m]Bruno[/name_m]
[name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]
[name_u]Blaise[/name_u]
[name_m]Basil[/name_m]
Girls:
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilou[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f]
[name_f]Luisa[/name_f] (soft S compared to the hard “z” sound in [name_f]Louisa[/name_f])
[name_u]Lou[/name_u]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Lettice[/name_f] (ehehe. I’m kidding.)
[name_f]Lilac[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
[name_f]Belle[/name_f]/[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]
[name_u]Bay[/name_u]
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f] (I personally find this nice on paper and difficult to say out loud, but it does have a nice meaning)
I also love [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] and [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], but if they’re not your thing I won’t be offended
I was only introduced to Lost this year, hence bringing it up. But aside from the crazy Lost fanatics who remember everything, I think it would be fine. If I close my eyes and imagine a little [name_m]Linus[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] running around at the park with his equally well-named siblings, the spikey hair and bug-eyedness fades away.
I don’t think the [name_f]Magi[/name_f] thing is too much, but for good measure… do you like [name_m]Melchior[/name_m]? And I think that [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] [name_m]Balthasar[/name_m] is really quite handsome. What about [name_f]Lenora[/name_f] [name_u]Blair[/name_u]?
