For a little gentleman

I posted in the girl’s forum and figured I would post here too. DH and I are trying to conceive our first child, and, as any proper name nerd now I am even more obsessed with names. Hoping you berries will look at our list and give us some feedback, opinions, and suggestions if you have any.

Thanks!

[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] - We both really like [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]. I think it’s handsome and not used as often.
[name_u]Owen[/name_u] - Am totally aware of it’s popularity, and that scares me a little, but still we love it.
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] - This has been my DH’s favorite boy name since he was a little boy, and has recently grown on me. I know it’s popular, but there’s just something about it that works for me and DH.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - I am on the fence with this name, I like it, but am trying to decide if it works well with our last name. I like the nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] for a child, and unfortunately our last name rhymes with a bad word so [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] ______ would not work well. We would have to use [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] or [name_u]Theo[/name_u] if we wanted a nn.
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] - This is a family name, and it is growing on me more and more, I prefer the nn [name_m]Walt[/name_m].

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] drives me crazy. There are so many Jacks and Jacksons in my area that it makes me want to scream. Meanwhile, I’ve only met one [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] is okay, but it feels very trendy. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Walter[/name_m] are very handsome, solid choices.

I would keep [name_u]Owen[/name_u], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], and [name_m]Walter[/name_m]. Some more ideas:

[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]
[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_m]Donovan[/name_m]

@southern.maple - Totally understand being sick of a name that is popular in your area. Luckily in my area [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is not very common. I’ve heard [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]/[name_m]Jaxon[/name_m], but [name_m]Jack[/name_m] not so much. I agree that [name_m]Walter[/name_m] is a very solid and handsome choice. Your suggestions are great, some of them have been considered previously like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (love it, DH not so much). And [name_m]Alec[/name_m], what a handsome name, but it also happens to be my brother’s name. The suggestions that I will ponder for a few days are: [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]Colin[/name_m], [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] (have considered this previously also), [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] (same as [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]), and [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] (my DH has mentioned this name to me before). Thanks! : )

Hopefully will see more feedback soon.

Yeah-- [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is overly popular where I live too, so I wouldn’t use it because of that. Maybe you could use it as a mn-- [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]? [name_u]Owen[/name_u] is not as popular, but I like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_m]Walter[/name_m], and [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] much better.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!

Of your name choices I like [name_m]Walter[/name_m] the best - an underused classic. Second choice would be [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m].

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u] are both wildly popular where I live so they would be a no-go for me.

You said this will be your first child so unless you are monitoring the baby name stats for your area online, it is really hard to know exactly how popular a name is until you spend a lot of time at preschools, daycares and playgrounds. If I hear the name [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] one more time I am going to scream - and I used to love that name! [name_f]Imagine[/name_f] yourself in three to five years at your son’s first day of preschool or kindergarten: do you want to arrive and find out that your son will be known forever as [name_u]Owen[/name_u] H. or [name_m]Jack[/name_m] T. (insert proper surname initial)?? Or do you want him to stand out as the only [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] or [name_m]Walter[/name_m] in the class/school?

Best of luck with everything!

I love all of the names except [name_m]Walter[/name_m]. In order; [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], [name_u]Owen[/name_u], and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m].

I love [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. It has a great flow to it and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is short enough that you can “enforce” people using both names. [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] of course could be the calling name but also [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. (I really like [name_u]Theo[/name_u]).

Well I have an [name_u]Owen[/name_u], and so far we haven’t met another one in day care. I’m sure that will change at some point, but I’m hoping it’s really only teachers that feel the brunt of popular/trendy names. It is a great name…and easy for a child to learn to spell/write, which I am a fan of.

However I will say that my fave from your list is actually [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] nn [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is so handsome, and I love [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. I prefer it to [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], which to me is too cutesy, like teddy bear. In fact if I have another boy, [name_u]Theo[/name_u] (just) is high on my list for [name_u]Owen[/name_u]'s brother.

I love that [name_m]Walter[/name_m] is becoming a choice again. I can’t wait until I actually see one in my city. I also like [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m].

[name_u]Owen[/name_u] [name_m]Walter[/name_m] would be my top pick from your list.

I love all your picks! [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] may be popular, but I love them too. [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] is awesome, and I’ve always adored [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], nn [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. Still, I think [name_m]Walter[/name_m] is my favorite! [name_m]Walt[/name_m] is such a great nickname. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]? Or, if you want something with a little more spunk to balance the fairly serious [name_m]Walter[/name_m]…

[name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_m]Calvin[/name_m]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_m]Bruno[/name_m]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m] [name_m]Rufus[/name_m]/[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]

Thanks berries for all of the replies! It definitely gives me a lot to think about. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to see so much love for [name_m]Walter[/name_m] and [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] on here!
