For those of you with Henry's, how hard has it been to avoid nicknames?

Curious whether [name]Henry[/name]'s can be called [name]Henry[/name] in today’s day… or else whether it’s still a strong cultural push for people to want to call this name by a nickname, i.e. [name]Hank[/name], [name]Hal[/name], [name]Harry[/name]… If you have a son named [name]Henry[/name], do you get a lot of people wanting to call him something other than [name]Henry[/name]? Thanks!

I don’t have a son named [name]Henry[/name] (nor do I have any children at all, as a matter of fact!) but all of the Henrys I’ve known have gone by [name]Henry[/name], with the occasional [name]Harry[/name]. And I know a lot of Henrys (UK).

[name]Just[/name] introduce him as [name]Henry[/name] and people will call him that. Later in life he may decide he wants to go by [name]Hank[/name] or [name]Harry[/name] and then there’s nothing you’ll be able to do about it. But as long as he’s young just introduce him as [name]Henry[/name] and you’ll be fine.

I know 5 Henrys and a [name]Henri[/name]. We had 3 in our class at one point and there were only 5 boys in that class in total so it was pretty confusing. They all went by [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Henri[/name] except for two. [name]One[/name] went by [name]Hank[/name], the other by [name]Harry[/name].

I don’t have a son named [name]Henry[/name], nor do I know anyone named [name]Henry[/name] for that matter. But I imagine these days, at least in my generation, people would probably stick to [name]Henry[/name] rather than jump to [name]Hank[/name], [name]Hal[/name] or [name]Harry[/name].

I work with two people who have little [name]Henry[/name]'s–one is 10, the other is 6, and the older one is [name]Henry[/name], fullstop, but the mother of the other says he frequently gets called [name]Harry[/name] at school.

I personally wouldn’t think to call him anything other than [name]Henry[/name]. As a PP said, if you introduce him that way, people should catch on.

…My mind cannot understand why people would call someone named [name]Henry[/name] any of those names. They dont sound even remotely similar, other than starting with the same letter.
