Personally, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. It’s beautiful and classic. I knew a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] in school and the name didn’t seem old-fashioned, but fresh and pretty. I would totally include it on my own name list except my brother dated a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] so the name is kind of ruined for me

I never used to like [name_f]Mary[/name_f], but I have to say its growing on me, possibly just because its my grandma’s name, and we are very close.

Having said that, I know a lot of elderly ladies (70+) named [name_f]Mary[/name_f], so it does feel very old fashioned, but I think if I met a little [name_f]Mary[/name_f] it wouldn’t feel the same.

I also find the automatic association with Christianity off putting, as an atheist.

I would still love to meet a little [name_f]Mary[/name_f] though.

I’m never too sure of what I think about [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. On it’s own it seems quite dated to me, and can’t really picture a baby named [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. It does have a sweet sound to it though, and it does appeal to me despite it also feeling quite plain.
However, I do adore hyphenated [name_f]Mary[/name_f] names such as [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Ellen[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f]. My favourites are the ones with more unexpected second names, currently I’m crushing on [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and I also quite like [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Lark[/name_f].

It is beautiful, sophisticated, and beyond classic. Definitely due for a comeback. My 4 year old niece is named [name_f]Mary[/name_f], and everyone is so happily surprised by her name!

I like [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I think it is due for a revival but it could take a few years before it becomes popular again. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] was a top 10 name in [name_f]England[/name_f] and [name_m]Wales[/name_m] until around the 1960s, so I think for a lot of people it still seems dated.

My name is [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I’ve always thought it was extremely dated. I’ve only ever known one other girl my age who was named [name_f]Mary[/name_f] without it being a combo, and I only knew one other my age who had a name combining [name_f]Mary[/name_f] with something else. Everyone else I knew who was named [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or a combo like [name_f]Maryann[/name_f] or whatever was like 40+ years older than me. It always gave off the impression of an old lady’s name to me, and I honestly would have rather my parents named me almost anything else. I never thought it was old enough to be retro, not the way that [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] are, probably because neither was quite as obscenely popular as [name_f]Mary[/name_f] was during my parents’ generation (baby boomers). I don’t think it’ll be ready for a revival for another 10 or 20 years, and only if it doesn’t get as popular as it did in the 50s and 60s.

[name_f]Mary[/name_f]‘s lovely! I generally put it in the MN spot, but I think it’s partially to do with the fact that my MN is [name_f]Marie[/name_f] and the idea of having a [name_f]Mary[/name_f] seems slightly odd to me (I’ve considered [name_f]Maria[/name_f] up front, though, so maybe it’s just that I don’t love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] enough yet?). I definitely think she could be a leading lady, although I don’t think most mainstream namers think of her as such yet. I think with time she’ll get there again, though! She was the top girls’ name in [name_u]America[/name_u] for SO many years, though (at least 40 of the last 100 years!), that I think a lot of people are still quite tired of her. But I do like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] a lot and would love to meet a little [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. I met an adorable [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-[name_f]Grace[/name_f] once that made me see [name_f]Mary[/name_f] in a totally new light, and I love seeing others use her. I love her much more than my own mn, [name_f]Marie[/name_f].

I love it! [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is one of my absolute favorites. It’s elegant, feminine, versatile, and timeless. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] has been out of fashion long enough, at least in the States, to be refreshing on a little girl again.
