ok this is pretty big, because I’m extremely picky and never before have I just heard a name for the first time and it suddenly climbed to #1.
previous my top was [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. But I didn’t like how uninteresting it was, and I placed most of the blame on [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. I tried looking for a different middle name, but again, I’m super picky and nothing felt good enough. I thought of the spelling [name_f]Violette[/name_f] (removes my dislike of how much [name_f]Violet[/name_f] looks like Violent, and also reminds me a lot of [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], a name I love but can’t use). Turns out it’s a [name_m]French[/name_m] spelling pronounced vee-oh-let.
so, what do you think of [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Violette[/name_f]? critiques welcome. does it matter that it’s too [name_m]French[/name_m], and we’re not?
Super cute !! I think [name_f]Violette[/name_f] compliments [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] really well. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Violette[/name_f] is so romantic and purple and lovely, it reminds me of watercolors
I’m actually not a huge fan of [name_f]Violette[/name_f] in general–it feels too froufrou to me, and it seems like most Americans think it’s like [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but frillier, but it’s got a totally different pronunciation (which you know, of course!), and the francophone in me gets annoyed that the proper [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation is neglected, but I don’t even like the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation, haha, it’s just this big mess. I like the simplicity of [name_f]Violet[/name_f], which, since purple is my favorite color, I associate it with violets and the color purple and not with violence at all.
That being said, [name_f]Violette[/name_f] seems like a great option for you, and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Violette[/name_f] is so dainty and pretty! I adore [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. I wouldn’t be too concerned about the fact that it’s so [name_m]French[/name_m] and you’re not–I’d use [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] [name_f]Eszter[/name_f] in a heartbeat, and I’m not Eastern European (or Hungarian, or Italian) in the slightest. It’s a beautiful name.
this is the first time im admitting this but- i hate the name violet!
im probably the only person that does
BUT with the different way of pronouncing [name_f]Violette[/name_f] it is so much better!
while it would be quite the struggle correcting people pronouncing it [name_f]Violet[/name_f] i think it would be worth it
Agreed! I don’t know if I hate [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but I’ve always severely disliked it. However, [name_f]Violette[/name_f], when pronounced in [name_m]French[/name_m] is lovely. I’m not sure how you’re pronouncing [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], but in [name_m]French[/name_m] combined with the mn [name_f]Violette[/name_f] it’s really nice!
I love it!! Both names can work cross-culturally, I think. [name_f]Violette[/name_f] may encounter pronunciation issue in english, but since it’s in the middle, I guess it’s not a big deal? I speak french and I love Vee-oh-let more than [name_f]Vi[/name_f]-oh-let myself. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Violette[/name_f] is just so beautiful.
I think it works, though I’m not a fan of [name_f]Violette[/name_f] myself. I personally much prefer streamlined, vintage [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but I get that some people don’t like how close it looks and sounds to “violent”. [name_f]Violette[/name_f] is a good way of avoiding that so it seems like a good option for you.
I really like [name_f]Violette[/name_f]. There’s a famous [name_m]French[/name_m] makeup artist with that name who I follow. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Violette[/name_f] is a lovely combination. As for whether it’s too [name_m]French[/name_m] or not, I guess it depends on what you’re comfortable with. [name_f]Violette[/name_f] (with the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation) seems very distinctly [name_m]French[/name_m] to me but here in the UK [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is now a fairly mainstream name so I wouldn’t assume an [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] had [name_m]French[/name_m]-speaking parents.
