All those I listed as first and these would make fine middles:
[name_f]Beloved[/name_f]
[name_u]Comfort[/name_u]
Diligence
[name_f]Gracious[/name_f]
[name_f]Honesty[/name_f]
[name_f]Honour[/name_f]
Humble
[name_f]Love[/name_f] – I know several people with this as a middle
[name_f]Patience[/name_f] – know a man with this middle
Rejoice
[name_f]Remember[/name_f]
[name_u]Sincere[/name_u]
Steadfast
Thankful
[name_u]Truth[/name_u] – or [name_u]True[/name_u]
[name_f]Unity[/name_f]
[name_f]Victory[/name_f]
[name_f]Virtue[/name_f]
These made me go “O_o Why would you name a child that?”
Fear-the-[name_m]Lord[/name_m] and many of the rest are quite something.
The ones I like are more mainstream within that tradition: [name_f]Amity[/name_f], [name_u]Comfort[/name_u], [name_u]Concord[/name_u], [name_f]Constance[/name_f], [name_f]Mercy[/name_f], [name_f]Prudence[/name_f], and [name_f]Verity[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Pleasant[/name_f] too.
Though they are off the beaten path, I would favor them over [name_f]Braelynn[/name_f] or Vendetta.
I think all of these could word just fine as real names (bolded the ones I’ve heard used): [name_f]Amity[/name_f]
[name_f]Charity[/name_f]
[name_f]Clemency[/name_f] [name_f]Constance[/name_f]
[name_f]Faith[/name_f]
Faithful [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Honesty[/name_f]
[name_f]Honour[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f]
[name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]
[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Mercy[/name_f]
[name_m]Moses[/name_m]
[name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m]
[name_f]Patience[/name_f]
Providence [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]
[name_f]Remember[/name_f]
[name_u]Sincere[/name_u]
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f]
[name_u]Truth[/name_u]
[name_f]Unity[/name_f] [name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f] and [name_f]Amity[/name_f] are the only two I would use. I have them both on my list
If-[name_m]Christ[/name_m]-had- not-died-for- thee-thou-hadst- been-damned is quite an intense name. Puritans were something, weren’t they…
Most of the phrases just don’t work in this modern age and I’m not a fan of hyphens anyway. And some words like Abstinence, [name_f]Silence[/name_f], Desire, Dust, [name_u]Experience[/name_u], Freegift, Forsaken, Fear, Godly, Helpless, Humiliation, [name_f]Obedience[/name_f], Lament, Submit and Handmaid just wouldn’t go over well. Some of the more positive and optimistic word names would be better choices!
[name_f]Amity[/name_f] [name_f]Beloved[/name_f]
[name_f]Charity[/name_f]
[name_f]Clemency[/name_f]
[name_u]Comfort[/name_u] - Solace is one of my favourite word names and I think it’s better than [name_u]Comfort[/name_u] but means the same thing.
[name_f]Constancy[/name_f]
[name_m]Constant[/name_m]
Lively
Make-peace - I would prefer Makepeace as one name
Providence Rejoice
[name_f]Remember[/name_f]
[name_u]Sincere[/name_u] Steadfast
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f]
These are fine names in my opinion (bold means I actually like it too): [name_f]Amity[/name_f], [name_f]Charity[/name_f], [name_f]Clemency[/name_f], [name_f]Constance[/name_f], [name_f]Faith[/name_f] (ick), [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Joy[/name_f], [name_f]Mercy[/name_f], [name_m]Moses[/name_m], [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m], [name_f]Prudence[/name_f], [name_f]Temperance[/name_f], [name_f]Verity[/name_f]
The rest are pretty bad [name_f]IMO[/name_f], but these take the cake:
Names containing Fornication, Hate-evil, Forsaken, Fear, Helpless, Humiliation, If-[name_m]Christ[/name_m]-had- not-died-for- thee-thou-hadst- been-damned, [name_m]Jesus[/name_m]-[name_m]Christ[/name_m]-came- into-the-world- to-save, [name_m]Job[/name_m]-raked-out-of-the-ashes, No-merit, Refrayne (holy crap, Puritans have kree8tyv spellers too), Search-the-scriptures, Tribulation. Apparently, Puritans were kree8tyv goth kids circa 2005.
[name_f]Amity[/name_f] - Like this a lot.
Ashes - I’m oddly fond of this.
[name_f]Constance[/name_f] - Know a really lovely [name_f]Constance[/name_f].
Dust - I like this. Probably only a middle name. Like [name_m]Clay[/name_m], it has a mix of nature meaning and spiritual significance.
[name_f]Earth[/name_f] - [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like, but like [name_f]Eartha[/name_f].
[name_f]Faith[/name_f] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] this, husband vetoed.
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] - Husband vetoed, but he likes [name_f]Felicia[/name_f]?
Make-peace - Prefer it unhyphenated, Makepeace. (Or Peacemaker)
[name_m]Moses[/name_m] - A perfectly ordinary family name for me.
[name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] this one.
[name_f]Prudence[/name_f] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] this.
Rejoice - I sort of love this as a middle name, WDYT?
[name_f]Silence[/name_f] - Prefer [name_f]Tacita[/name_f], but still pretty.
[name_f]Verity[/name_f] - [name_f]Love[/name_f].
Wouldn’t use any of these for various reasons, but [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Joy[/name_f], and [name_f]Verity[/name_f] are very nice. And of course I like [name_f]Amity[/name_f]…my parents were familiar with an [name_f]Amity[/name_f] Church so it being included in the “Puritan names” is not surprising. But I tend to prefer virtue names that aren’t quite so obvious because that way people won’t notice as much when people with these names don’t act in a way that reflects their name (less likely that others will whine/make fun of this type of irony) If [name_f]Verity[/name_f] didn’t rhyme with my name, I’d love to use it. Other favorite virtue names:
Uh oh, these are right up my alley.
I would probably use…
[name_m]Fidel[/name_m]
[name_u]Fortune[/name_u]
Given
[name_f]Honour[/name_f]
[name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_m]Just[/name_m]
[name_u]Justice[/name_u]
[name_f]Mercy[/name_f]
[name_f]Remember[/name_f]
Restore
[name_u]Truth[/name_u]
[name_f]Virtue[/name_f]
There is a certain appeal with these virtue names. They are like a little prayer for the future of your child. Something positive for them to always hold on to. Everyone shows these virtues on occasion, it’s just a reminder of our good-side, I suppose. Maybe a little lofty…but I like them.
So neat! I like a lot of devotional names in Spanish, so many of these appeal to me. I particularly like:
[name_f]Amity[/name_f], [name_f]Constance[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Honour[/name_f], [name_f]Joy[/name_f] and [name_u]Justice[/name_u] (all usable)
Ashes, Fare-well, [name_f]Patience[/name_f], Piety (totally cool, I like these a lot but they definitely aren’t for everyone)
Diligence and Elected sound really nice, though I wouldn’t use them.
