My husband and I can agree on these four names. Sadly, it changes between these four on a daily basis so we can’t settle on just one. Middle name would be [name]Eve[/name] (family name), unless we use it as a first. I [name]LOVE[/name] all these names but here are my hesitations on each one…
[name]Juniper[/name] - my most unique choice. My concern is that after a while it will feel too trendy/hippie sounding.
[name]Greta[/name] - this honors my husband’s [name]German[/name] heritage but sometimes feels a bit cold to me.
[name]Charlie[/name] - Might be too cutesy without a longer name but I can’t find anything I like (can’t use [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Charlene[/name] or [name]Charlize[/name]).
[name]Eve[/name] - I like the sweet simplicity but [name]Eve[/name]/[name]Eva[/name] and all it’s variations are getting pretty popular and one of my main requirements was for the name to not be so common.
I think I need to be swayed. Which of these is your favorite and why?
[name]Juniper[/name] - I love this name. It’s beautiful and sweet, and it’s a nature name. I love juniper trees and berries. I don’t think it’s a hippie name.
[name]Eva[/name] - Epically beautiful. [name]Eve[/name] is cute too. I wouldn’t care about popularity with these names, they are classics and even though they are in the top 100 ([name]Eva[/name] #33/#83, [name]Eve[/name] at #129/#546 in [name]England[/name] and [name]America[/name]).
[name]Greta[/name] - I really like [name]Greta[/name] too, it’s pretty, but your concerns about this one makes me hesitate the most. This is the only name you don’t seem to be that fond of. Maybe [name]Gretel[/name] or [name]Gretchen[/name]?
Suggestions for [name]Charlie[/name]: [name]Charmaine[/name], [name]Charis[/name], [name]Chara[/name]
Other [name]German[/name] names you might like: [name]Silke[/name], [name]Katja[/name], Friede, [name]Liesel[/name], [name]Marike[/name], [name]Ulrike[/name]
[name]Juniper[/name] [name]Eve[/name] would be adorable!
I love nn [name]Junie[/name].
[name]Greta[/name] is okay, but it does feel a bit harsh.
[name]Charlie[/name] as a full name is a pet peeve of mine. I really dislike it as a nickname for a girl too. Now, if you were having a boy, that would be another story.
Second choice is [name]Eve[/name]. I love it’s simplicity too. Short and sweet, [name]Eve[/name] will always be lovely. I know that [name]Evelyn[/name] and [name]Evie[/name] are popular right now, but [name]Eve[/name] never is.
[name]Eve[/name] – I love how simple it is. It’s got a popular feel but [name]Eve[/name] itself isn’t very popular at all, which I love.
[name]Juniper[/name] – It does have hippy sound to it but not in a bad way! I think that it depends on the rest of the combo.
[name]Greta[/name] – [name]Greta[/name] would be a great choice but I like the first two better, just a personal preference though. It doesn’t sound cold at all, [name]IMO[/name].
[name]Charlie[/name] – [name]Charlie[/name] as an occasional nickname for [name]Charlotte[/name] is kind of quirky and I do like that but I don’t like it as a given name for a girl. Not at all!
I love [name]Juniper[/name] and [name]Juniper[/name] [name]Eve[/name] is lovely. You’re right that it will eventually sound dated, but [name]June[/name] is a nice option for a more serious sound.
[name]Eve[/name]. [name]Love[/name] love love this name. And I’m not a big fan of [name]Eva[/name]. This would probably be my choice.
[name]Greta[/name] is a lovely name, but I agree that it sounds a bit cold sometimes.
I love juniper…and love the classy and sweet nickname [name]June[/name] as a nn option.
I love [name]Greta[/name] (named my 4.5 yo this):…but I can see your concerns because many people find it harsh, guttural, cold, ugly. Obviously I don’t feel that way, and I understand that not everyone will love the name you choose.
I am not a fan of [name]Charlie[/name] as a given name.
I love [name]Eve[/name], I think it is gorgeous! I think it is distinct enough from her popular cousins that I would still use it. It is a name that works so well in all stages of life. I love its sweet simplicity, yet it is still far from plain in my opinion
My favorite is [name]Greta[/name]. I find it so glamorous, probably because of [name]Greta[/name] [name]Garbo[/name], and I like that it’s close to the word “grit.” But if you find it cold, then it’s probably not the one. [name]Gretel[/name] is a little sweeter. [name]Liesl[/name] is about the sweetest-sounding [name]German[/name] name I can think of - reminds me of The Sound of [name]Music[/name].
[name]Juniper[/name] has a nice feeling because of the bracingly fragrant shrub. It’s wintry and fresh. I do see it becoming more commonly used - not a hippy name.
[name]Charlie[/name]… I knew a weird girl named [name]Charlie[/name], so I’m not really qualified to comment. [name]Don[/name]'t love it. To get to [name]Charlie[/name]: [name]Carlotta[/name] or [name]Colette[/name] (also give you [name]Lotte[/name] “lottie”), [name]Clare[/name], [name]Corinne[/name], or my fave- Casilda.
[name]Eve[/name] I prefer in the middle, unless you use it as the first name and call her by her middle name.
[name]Juniper[/name] - I like nature names, [name]Juniper[/name] included.
[name]Greta[/name] - I like guttural/consonant heavy names. They seem refreshing with all the Ellas and Annas running around. Goes against what is popular right now though, so it might be the type of name that people, including your daughter, might not like right away.
[name]Charlie[/name] - Cute as a nn for a girl, but I don’t like it is as a given name. Screams boy and is really hard to grow into.
[name]Eve[/name] - I prefer [name]Greta[/name] and [name]Juniper[/name]. [name]Greta[/name] [name]Eve[/name] and [name]Juniper[/name] [name]Eve[/name] sounds great!
[name]Juniper[/name] [name]Eve[/name] would be so lovely, and I don’t think it sounds hippie at all. It is a nature name, yes, but more in the category of [name]Fern[/name] than in the category of Birdsong or Moonbeam. There’s something rather serious about it. The length gives it a nice weight. That “er” ending makes it not too out there, as it ties it into accepted names like [name]Jennifer[/name], [name]Conner[/name], etc. And like others said, there’s the possibility of a [name]June[/name] nickname. I hear this name and see a woman who can fit into a lot of different crowds. It’s gorgeous, and there are so few Junipers about that I do not think it will sound trendy or tied to a specific era. So, my vote, [name]Juniper[/name] [name]Eve[/name]. [name]Truly[/name] a delightful name.
Otherwise, I am fond of all of your names except for [name]Charlie[/name] (which seems tired/overdone compared to the others). [name]Greta[/name] [name]Eve[/name] doesn’t have the great flow to me, but it’s not terrible by any means. That’d be my second choice. I think [name]Eve[/name] is a beautiful name, but I like it more in the middle spot for you.
I like your selection on names and can see why it’s difficult to narrow it down. They are all so different.
Maybe you can find names that touch on more than one of your four categories.
My favorites are: [name]Juniper[/name] and [name]Eva[/name]. ([name]Greta[/name] feels a bit dated to my [name]German[/name] ears and I prefer “proper” names to nn like [name]Charlie[/name].)
For example: [name]Eva[/name] is the [name]German[/name] spelling for [name]Eve[/name]. This way you could honor your husbands [name]German[/name] heritage and keep the [name]Eve[/name] name you love.
[name]Eve[/name] isn’t even in the same category as [name]Eva[/name] & [name]Ava[/name]. [name]Eve[/name] is much more daring and strong and timeless
[name]Greta[/name] is a stand out name. I like how uncommon it is although I do prefer [name]Marta[/name]
I love nature names but [name]Juniper[/name] is so trendy that I can’t stand it. It feels poser-y since people who aren’t the hippie/bohemian type are using it because it’s “in”.
I adore the name [name]Greta[/name]. I felt the “cold” feeling with [name]Gretchen[/name], my daughter’s name until I met her and really it just fit perfectly. On a little girl, it really is quite cute, though I’m terribly biased. You also don’t have to worry about meeting another [name]Greta[/name] on the playground.
[name]Charlie[/name] is an adorable nickname, but I think you’re right that it needs a more substantial full name.
I like [name]Juniper[/name] [name]Eve[/name] & [name]Juniper[/name] [name]Eva[/name] ([name]Eva[/name] being the [name]German[/name] version of [name]Eve[/name]).
Yes, I agree with this. Definitely not hippie, more like [name]Rose[/name], [name]Fern[/name], [name]Clover[/name], [name]Linden[/name], [name]Aspen[/name]. I don’t see it ever becoming super popular, and it’s still quite rare. Like cosmo said, there are so few that it’s less likely to sound dated.
