Well after many a month of silent stalking I am nervously posting our sibset for feedback and suggestions. Be kind this is my first time!
Husband and I choose names with no set formula, just instinct and love for the name… so I can’t really define a style for you other than hubby likes girls to be girls…so our tribe consists of…
[name]Abby[/name] [name]Hannah[/name]
[name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Ella[/name]
[name]Fenella[/name] [name]Molly[/name]
and we think the final member of our family may be…
Sudi [name]Juliette[/name]
Would love to hear your thoughts, or alternatives you think might fit!
Ok, a lot of these are nms, but I do like: [name]Abby[/name], [name]Juliette[/name], [name]Ella[/name]. I like [name]Molly[/name] and [name]Hannah[/name], too. [name]Fenella[/name] and [name]Xanthe[/name] really throw me off, and Sudi is completely off my radar. I could maybe eventually get used to [name]Fenella[/name] and [name]Xanthe[/name], but I just don’t see the appeal of Sudi. I have a more traditional naming style, so maybe you’ll get some responses from more ambitious namers!
So I think your names are the opposite of uninspiring and boring! I think they’re very interesting individually and as a set.
[name]Molly[/name], [name]Juliet[/name] (I like this spelling but it doesn’t make much difference) and [name]Hannah[/name] are personal favourites of mine. And I know [name]Xanthe[/name] is super popular among a lot of the Berries. I definitely don’t dislike it, it’s just a name I’m not used to yet having never heard of it before nameberry! It reminds me of one of my favourites [name]Phoebe[/name] though so I like that.
So [name]Abby[/name], [name]Xanthe[/name], [name]Fenella[/name] and Sudi?
I have to be honest, I don’t know what to make of Sudi! I’ve never heard of it before! What are the origins? [name]How[/name] do I pronounce it? Like [name]Suzy[/name] with a “d”? I’m not sure I really like it, though as previously mentioned I adore [name]Juliette[/name]!
Also, it may not bother you, but the thing that stood out for me is that [name]Fenella[/name] is the only one whose name isn’t two syllables ending with an “ee” sound. That would bother me personally, but obviously you may not be concerned with the “sibset” as such, and more just want a name you really love, which at the end of the day is more important than a perfectly matched set!
I however would go either with a name ending with an “a” like [name]Fenella[/name], or a name with a totally different ending.
If you’d like some suggestions let me know and I’ll give it a try!
Sudi reminds me a bit of [name]Judi[/name], which is dated. If you aren’t worried about celebrity popularity, [name]Suri[/name] maybe? Or [name]Zuri[/name]?
[name]Abby[/name] [name]Hannah[/name]- Cute. A little dull. [name]Abigail[/name] [name]Hannelore[/name] is more interesting.
[name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Ella[/name]- Interesting, but I’m STILL unsure of how to say [name]Xanthe[/name]. I like how the unique [name]Xanthe[/name] is balanced with [name]Ella[/name].
[name]Fenella[/name] [name]Molly[/name]- [name]Fenella[/name] makes me think of Funnel cake. [name]Molly[/name] is cute, though I like [name]Mary[/name] a tad more.
Sudi [name]Juliette[/name]- [name]Juliette[/name] (or [name]Juliet[/name], either spelling is fine) is pretty, but Sudi is really wierd. And not in a good way. I have no idea what to make of it.
I know you don’t care if sibsets are wel, sibsets, but these are all so different, I wouldn’t think they were siblings.
[name]Abby[/name] [name]Hannah[/name] - Cute. I prefer the full name of [name]Abigail[/name]
[name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Ella[/name] - this runs together as one name for me, like Xanthiella. I’m a fan of [name]Xanthe[/name] and [name]Xanthia[/name]. [name]Xanthia[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] is all kinds of awesome
[name]Fenella[/name] [name]Molly[/name] - I actually know a [name]Fenella[/name]. the two ‘ll’ sounds clash for me. [name]Fenella[/name] [name]Mary[/name] as previously suggested is a better option [name]IMO[/name]
Sudi [name]Juliette[/name] - I find Sudi odd. [name]Sadie[/name]?
I agree with the ee sound being at the end for all but [name]Fenella[/name] is a little awkward but I tend to sway in favour of the names standing alone individually over the sibset flow.
Sudhi was the name of a school acquaintance - pronounced as you say rhyming with [name]Suzie[/name] or [name]Judy[/name]! I had never considered it until it popped up in a naming book as Sudy (Old English, meaning southerly wind, said to favour good seasons) which struck a chord being farmers! I could only find it on the net as a male name of Egyptian origin meaning lucky.
I ran it past very fussy husband and it passed his unisex aversions… and slowly crept up on us but I do feel like there could be another perfect name out there that I am just not seeing.
The new trend for traditionals and old classics doesn’t suit us - something strong, feminine and a little bit different… isn’t that what everyone wants
Would definitely love to hear suggestions.
I also agree with spelling [name]Juliet[/name] - think I was trying too hard there!
[name]Abby[/name], [name]Xanthe[/name], [name]Fenella[/name], and Sudi-- one very common name followed by 2 unusual names and one that will probably be unique. I don’t love it, but I don’t think it’s horrible-- somewhere in the middle for me. Would you consider [name]Juliet[/name] as a fn?
Here are some other possibilities that might work with your sibset:
Great list davisellu! I love [name]Blythe[/name] and [name]Ottilie[/name] but the pronunciation of both caused hiccups for husband as he feel his own name has always been hard to get the mouth around!
Our surname starts with O’ - so can cause a bit of trouble
Sudi has definitely been more negative than I envisioned so will take all your views on board and head back to the lists and see where I end up.
I liked your reasons behind Sudi a lot, and it makes more sense now, but I still don’t particularly like the sound of it.
So you want strong, feminine and a little bit different, not traditional or classic, to go with [name]Abby[/name], [name]Xanthe[/name] and [name]Fenella[/name]:
[name]Siri[/name]
[name]Suki[/name]
[name]Sanna[/name]/[name]Sanne[/name]/[name]Sanaa[/name]
[name]Seren[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Lilac[/name]
[name]Harriet[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Evenie[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Luna[/name]
[name]Annora[/name]
[name]Autumn[/name]
[name]Juniper[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Calla[/name]
[name]Keziah[/name]
[name]Roux[/name]
[name]Anona[/name] ([name]Roman[/name] [name]Goddess[/name] of Harvest, could be appropriate for farmers!)
[name]Rhea[/name] (Greek [name]Goddess[/name] of the [name]Earth[/name], again could be appropriate)
[name]Nola[/name]
[name]Thea[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]
[name]June[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Indigo[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]
[name]Wren[/name]
[name]Vida[/name]
[name]Lila[/name]
[name]Maren[/name]
[name]Eden[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Alma[/name]
[name]Alba[/name]
[name]Hadley[/name]
Sudi… hmmm I think it is fairly easy to pronouce based on the spelling. Never heard of it, but it gives a middle Eastern feel to me- perhaps even [name]Indian[/name]? I kind of like it, kind of don’t, kind of on the fence.
I agree a name with an “ee” sound at the end is less appealing.
Here are some ideas if you want different:
[name]Tova[/name]
[name]Jacinta[/name]
[name]Zaria[/name]
[name]Neva[/name]
More insightful options - thanks. I have already tried [name]Suki[/name], (oh yes I loved [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls) [name]Tess[/name], [name]Autumn[/name] and [name]Indigo[/name]
… I do love [name]Vida[/name] though. [name]Will[/name] begin to make a case for that to sway husband (aka Veto-man!)
[name]Vida[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] - should I worry about the V.J initials!!?
I just wanted to chime in about Sudi. I knew a girl from [name]India[/name] named Sudeshna and she was called Sudi. So it does give me an [name]Indian[/name] vibe. Also, it sounds pretty similar to the verb “to sweat” in Spanish, sudar, which is the other thing I think of.
I wouldn’t worry about VJ at all! Maybe it’s a cultural thing?
My partner and I were talking about the name [name]Violet[/name] the other day and discussing middles names to go with it, and I suggested [name]Jane[/name] which is my middle name, and my partner said yeah that’s nice and I can call her VJ. That sounded totally fine to me since there’s a character on an Australian Soap I watch called VJ ([name]Vinnie[/name] [name]Junior[/name]). But now I’m wondering if it would be strange?
Nah, I still think the initals are fine! I absolutely adore [name]Vida[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]! And I love [name]Abby[/name], [name]Xanthe[/name], [name]Fenella[/name] and [name]Vida[/name] - they sound so exotic together!
[name]Just[/name] reading your tag - and am totally amazed at your boy names… [name]Rafferty[/name] was always our boy name (alas not to be used for us now !! unless we get a boy pet!!) and I tried very hard to get hubby on side for [name]Emrys[/name] (even for a girl at one point) to honour my father [name]Ambrose[/name].
[name]Love[/name] how the universe knits things together and creates little signs to give you the thumbs up when you head in the right direction.
