Help! My husband and I have both been in love with the name Saiorse (Seer-Sha) for a couple years now, and we have settled on that name, if our 4th baby is a girl. It is amazing to me that both of us love it equally, as that has been rare in our naming history. I do have Irish roots in my family line, and first heard the name in Ireland, but we are Canadian, and we know the spelling will be an issue here. We are so torn about what to do! I love the original spelling and think it may be worth the investment to help people learn itā¦ but my husband leaned towards an alternate and he may be right. He is open to either option though.

Brecken Lane (nn: Breck)
Saiorse Claire (nn: Saya)
Although I think altering spellings is sometimes good, I think it is best to keep the original here. With Saiorse Ronanās rising popularity and the trend upward of some [name_u]Irish[/name_u] names in general, it shouldnāt be too bad.
If you end up wanting an alternate spelling, my personal preference would either be Seirsha or Seersha. Iām from the US and Syrsha would end up being Sir-sha instead of sheer-sha.
[name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] is a very culturally significant name to the [name_u]Irish[/name_u] people so I think itās more respectful not to alter the spelling!
[name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] is lovely, but Iād recommend spelling it the regular way - S-A-O-I-R-S-E. All of your spellings are incorrect
Iām not one to āgatekeepā my culture, but I would highly recommend sticking to the regular spelling. Your alternate spellings, to be totally honest, would cause a lot of scoffs and eye rolls amongst [name_u]Irish[/name_u] people. Itās like cheapening it.
I love the name, but would go for original, [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f]. I would guess sheād be prouder to have original and maybe a little less to have a phonetic spelling. Take or leave, but just to consider: I also think Iād use Seerie, [name_f]Sia[/name_f] or Sisha or similar for a nickname, [name_f]Saya[/name_f] to me feels much further from the name than it could be, and than your other nicknames are from theirs?
