Fran’s middle name!

We are due with our third girl in just two weeks! My other two are Leni Bloom and Ru Ines.

Baby sister will be named Frances. Struggling to find a suitable middle… I want something that’s not too formal or classic, but also nothing too cute or on trend.

So far we only have:

Frances Mars
Some have said this leans masculine, which I hear. We know a couple who named their little girl Mars and I’ve always adored it and think Franny Mars is such a sweet name that flows well.

Frances Plum
Ok…. Hear me out…. It is a fruit, but something about Plum, Lemon and Clementine I am obsessed with. Plum has such a sweet association and I love saying it. I think it actually makes for a really nice middle.

Frances Nell
I love Nell and I like a short, one syllable middle next to Frances, but also aware it kind of runs on and sounds like “-Snell.” My husband doesn’t love.

Frances Lee
We prefer Lee spelling to Leigh, so would keep the shorter form. We love Lee and always have. Would actually happily consider for a first name. Something about Lee as a first feels more substantial and noteworthy to me that as a middle. As good and easy as Frances Lee sounds, something about it feels safe and predictable. Like just a place holder.

Frances Leone
I think Leone is very beautiful. My husband questions it a bit so I suspect we won’t use it, but it felt unique and pretty in a memorable way.

Frances Bird
I love the first name Birdie but my husband far prefers Frances. I recently read a book and the author dedicated it to her daughter, named Ione Bird. I thought it was so sweet but I also recognize it’s a bit unusual to some. This would also allow me to call her Birdie :speak_no_evil::speak_no_evil:

Frances Fay
This is cuteeeee… though Frances and Fay are both older names, so kinda feels a bit stuffy to me. I also don’t love the F-F. But I don’t hate it either.

Frances Ray
This sounds right. Could also be spelt Rae, which I think is more popular right now. Feels kinda basic lol, but not ruling it out.

I got no others lol…. I’m out of ideas. I think Bird, Plum and Mars are my fav but I guess I’m still questioning. Any votes or input?

I really love [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_m]Mars[/name_m], [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_m]Bird[/name_m], and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f] (probably in that order).

[name_m]Mars[/name_m] feels very gender neutral, I get what you’re saying (could see [name_m]Francis[/name_m] [name_m]Mars[/name_m] as a boy name) but your older girls have gender neutral-ish first names so it doesn’t stick out. Fran/Franny is pretty femme as well so I don’t think it’s too masculine.

[name_m]Bird[/name_m] as a middle name I adore (and [name_f]Ione[/name_f] [name_m]Bird[/name_m] is so dreamy). Would be my #1 except [name_m]Bird[/name_m] might be a bit matchy with [name_f]Bloom[/name_f] whereas [name_m]Mars[/name_m] is her own name.

I think these sound extraordinary! I’m leaning towards [name_m]Mars[/name_m] and [name_m]Bird[/name_m].

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Frances[/name_f] Plum; I am such a big [name_f]Plum[/name_f] fan! [name_f]My[/name_f] mom used to call me her sugar plum so I’ve always loved it as a middle name because of that, and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f] is so fun! [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is a burgundy color for me so I love the pairing of burgundy and plum together visually. I think [name_f]Plum[/name_f] works well stylistically with Leni’s middle, too!

[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_m]Bird[/name_m] might be my second favorite; I know you love [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and love that this would give her to you. I think stylistically it’s a great match with [name_f]Leni[/name_f] [name_f]Bloom[/name_f] too (maybe a bit more gravitas; but I still like her as a sister to [name_f]Leni[/name_f] [name_f]Bloom[/name_f] and Ru Ines!).

[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_m]Mars[/name_m] is probably my third favorite… for you. I like [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_m]Leone[/name_m] better in general but I’ve seen this combo in some of your other posts so I know you’ve long been a fan of it.

I was going to recommend Francis Fae before I got to it on your list! So, I’m fond of that option.

I saw people speculating Plum was what the Biebers were going to name their child and I thought it seem like an out there name. BUT, for some reason I’m kind of digging it with Frances? Frances Plum. I can’t pinpoint what it is about it but I do like it.

A few suggestions:

Frances Reece / Reese (I am actually really digging this, personally. Especially because it just looks very cohesive with the shared c/e/s in the first and middle names)

Frances Freya
Frances Elise
Frances Blythe
Frances Eve

You could also potentially pick a bird-related middle name and still use the Birdie nickname?

Frances Wren - kind of dig how it sounds, though Wren might be too trendy?

Frances Mavis - means “songbird” and shares similar sounds with Mars. Could call her Birdie or Franny Mavs instead of Franny Mars.

[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_m]Mars[/name_m] is still my top choice for you. I like [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f] but I don’t think it’s the vibe you’re going for.

[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f] is fun and quirky. I just find it slightly thematic with [name_f]Bloom[/name_f] and prefer the overall sound of [name_m]Mars[/name_m].

Frances Plum is my fave - I’ve liked Plum for ages, and it was used as a first name by a Brit designer. I find it so pleasant to say and it’s a lovely connection to both Ru & Bloom in terms of sound and vibes. Then Leni, Inès and Frances all link through the two syllable, middle N sound. It means everyone has something a little playful and a little tailored in their name. They would go so well as a trio!

So this would be by choice by quite some margin.

Second would be Bird but I just like saying Plum more than Bird and I find Bird a little more intense and inward than Plum while your others have something freer in their names.

(If you use Fay(e) or Ray, def prefer Y to -ae)

But, [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f] also stands on its own as a lovely name.

I very clearly remember you posting a discussion between [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] I believe? I think I suggested [name_f]Frances[/name_f] and using [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] as a nickname

Anyways, fast forward to now, crazy that discussion stuck with me and my first instinct was [name_m]Bird[/name_m] and then to see it as a thought you guys have had too
