Frances with an S surname?

I love the name [name_f]Frances[/name_f] but our surname starts with S. I know a lot of people rule out S endings with a surname starting with S because it can be confusing like [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] [name_f]Sutton[/name_f] can sound like [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] [name_f]Sutton[/name_f] or [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] [name_m]Hutton[/name_m] but I don’t personally think this is likely with [name_f]Frances[/name_f] but it is a lot of S sounds.

I like [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] & [name_f]Francine[/name_f] too, but not nearly as much as I like the boyish but classic feel of [name_f]Frances[/name_f].

Also, would [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Jean[/name_f] automatically be related to [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_m]Bean[/name_m] [name_m]Cobain[/name_m]? Lol

Also considering [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_m]Dale[/name_m] as [name_m]Dale[/name_m] is a family name and it’s the first combo I’ve liked it in.

(and for those who have seen my past posts, I’m decided for my next baby but this is for my future baby name list as my husband and I have been talking about possibly having a bigger family than we originally thought)

[name_f]Frances[/name_f] S- sounds okay to me :person_shrugging: [name_f]Frances[/name_f] sounds pretty distinctive so I think it sounds alright!

I don’t know who [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_m]Bean[/name_m] [name_m]Cobain[/name_m] is but [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Jean[/name_f] sounds so classic and solid that it wouldn’t be too close to that to me .

I personally wouldn’t do it, but I’m rather nitpicky about these things  [name_f]Frances[/name_f] definitely turns into [name_f]Francie[/name_f] when I say it out loud with an S surname - which is a cute name, but not what you’re going for, I’d assume!

It’s definitely not the end of the world, and if [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is your number one favourite you should use it, but if it’s, let’s say, one of your three favourites, then I’d go for one of the other two names instead.

I don’t know who [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_m]Bean[/name_m] [name_m]Cobain[/name_m] is but I don’t think I would make any associations with a name as classic as [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Jean[/name_f] anyway!

It’s not an ideal flow, but it’s also not a deal breaker if [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is your top choice. I think I’ve mentioned this before on here, but [name_m]Bruce[/name_m] Springsteen has made the back-to-back ‘s’ sounds work for him!

I am aware of [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_m]Bean[/name_m] [name_m]Cobain[/name_m], but the similarity to [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Jean[/name_f] is a non-issue imo.

I don’t think [name_f]Frances[/name_f] with an S surname would have the same issue as the Jonas/Jonah example because there aren’t really similar sounding names to confuse it with.
Though I do ADORE [name_f]Francine[/name_f] and have always kept it on my list, I get the appeal you mentioned for [name_f]Frances[/name_f].

I wouldn’t have even made the [name_m]Cobain[/name_m] reference if you hadn’t have mentioned it, so I think she would be fine. I dig [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Jean[/name_f]!

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband’s grandfather’s name is [name_m]Dale[/name_m] and one of his cousins is named @bby [name_m]Dale[/name_m] in his honor (instead of Abigail). I don’t know how I feel about [name_f]Frances[/name_f] with [name_m]Dale[/name_m] since it would be a more unisex name with a masculine name? [name_m]Just[/name_m] my personal preference there.

[name_f]My[/name_f] overly tidy brain wouldn’t want it ideally, but obviously that’s to be balanced against how much you adore a name. If this is the name you love and nothing else comes close, I think [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is distinct enough in sound as others have mentioned that the run-on doesn’t matter - people aren’t going to think her name is anything other than [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. I also think [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Jean[/name_f] is fine (and lovely) - and the fact that she will have a middle makes the run-on thing even less of an issue - she will be [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Jean[/name_f] S, not [name_f]Frances[/name_f] S (I understand others outside the family will not necessarily know about the middle), but this would help reconcile it in my head.

I really don’t think it matters. Choose the name you love. [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is a lovely name and not too common either.
