Francesca vs Margot

I am having a new name crush on [name]Francesca[/name] (nn [name]Faye[/name]). My favorite for years has been [name]Margot[/name].
My husband loves both names (a big win because we can’t come up with a single boy name we both like).

However, I don’t like the nn [name]Fran[/name], [name]Frannie[/name] or [name]Frankie[/name].

We have a 2 yr old [name]Evie[/name]. I loved the name [name]Evie[/name] for YEARS before she was born and have no regrets.

Would [name]Evie[/name] and [name]Francesca[/name] be a strange sib-set? Would [name]Evie[/name] and [name]Margot[/name] be better? Is it to impulsive to pick a name I have only liked for a few days vs a few years? [name]Will[/name] she be stuck with a nn I hate?

[name]Margot[/name] is a much more safer choice than [name]Francesca[/name]. [name]Margot[/name] is a name you’ve liked for long, and [name]Francesca[/name] is only a new name crush, and there’ll be those in abundance. [name]Francesca[/name] may fade to you, but [name]Margot[/name] won’t. Plus, [name]Evie[/name] and [name]Margot[/name] is a much better sib-set than [name]Evie[/name] and [name]Francesca[/name]. An elaborate, exotic name with a short diminutive of an enduring and lovely classic. [name]Margot[/name]'s more shorter and more classic than [name]Francesca[/name]. And it goes better with [name]Evie[/name]. So I say [name]Margot[/name].

If you don’t like the nicknames, I think you may have to pass on the full name. You won’t be able to control what other people call your child, and your child may actually like those nn. People can’t seem to be able to call someone by their full name, their has to be a nn. I’d go with [name]Margot[/name]. I love [name]Margot[/name] and [name]Evie[/name], btw.

[name]Evie[/name] and [name]Margot[/name] would be gorgeous together. I think they have the same spunky vibe and they’re similar in length. [name]Francesca[/name] is frilly and feminine so I think the more pared down version [name]Frances[/name] would be the better choice for [name]Evie[/name]'s sister. I’ve never heard anyone use the nn [name]Faye[/name] for a [name]Francesca[/name] so it wouldn’t be the most familiar option.l

Thanks for that. I should also mention that the middle name will be [name]Alice[/name] either way.

i really love both! [name]Francesca[/name] is light, classic, feminine, and absolutely pretty! i really love [name]Francesca[/name]!
[name]Margot[/name] is also very nice. it’s elegant, classic and beautiful.
however actually i think neither of them would go with [name]Evie[/name] nicely. Is [name]Evie[/name] NN of [name]Evangeline[/name] or something?

Okay, I love love [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Francesca[/name], but I think I should warn you, I’ve seen a lot of people online named [name]Francesca[/name] say people often think their name is [name]Fran[/name] [name]Jessica[/name]. Which I think is crazy! But it still kind of ruined the name for me.

[name]Margot[/name] and [name]Evie[/name] are a better match [name]IMO[/name]

I like [name]Francesca[/name] - and while I do know a [name]Frankie[/name], I also know a Cecci (Check-y), Cesca, ([name]Chess[/name]-ka), and a Cecca (check-a).

[name]Margot[/name] and [name]Evie[/name] are a marvelous pair! I like [name]Margot[/name] much better than [name]Francesca[/name], and I don’t like the nn [name]Frankie[/name] either.

I love [name]Evie[/name] with [name]Margot[/name]. [name]Margot[/name] [name]Alice[/name] is a great combo. The thing about [name]Francesca[/name] is that I want to like it, but I don’t. It would be hard to name your daughter [name]Francesca[/name] and hate all of the nicknames because people will probably call her [name]Frankie[/name] or [name]Fran[/name] or [name]Frannie[/name]. So I say to go with [name]Margot[/name].

I have never heard that before, but now it is all I can think about. You’re starting to talk me out of it!

I love [name]Francesca[/name]! It probably will be nicknamed, but if you initiate [name]Faye[/name] as the nn I doubt people would call her [name]Frankie[/name]/[name]Frannie[/name]. If a [name]Katherine[/name] goes by [name]Kate[/name], nobody calls her [name]Kathy[/name] and is quickly corrected if they do.

[name]Margot[/name] is a great name too though, so either way she’ll have a beautiful name.

I have to disagree with those who claim that you can’t control the nickname. You can’t control it forever, but my daughter [name]Emeline[/name] has never been called anything but [name]Emeline[/name]. We call her [name]Emeline[/name], she introduces herself as [name]Emeline[/name] so people naturally follow suit. My high school best friend was named [name]Debora[/name] and never went by anything else.

That being said, I love both names. I have a daughter named [name]Harriet[/name] Franceszka (family spelling) and so, clearly, I’m quite fond. I think either works well and will be as beautiful as your daughter.

I also adore the name [name]Alice[/name].

I am a huge fan of the name [name]Francesca[/name]! It was on my short girl list before the SO turned it down. I seriously dislike the nn’s [name]Fran[/name] and [name]Frannie[/name]. [name]Faye[/name] is a really nice alternative, and my favorite is actually [name]Chessie[/name] (I like Cesca as well). I like the name [name]Margot[/name], as well, but not nearly as much. And it’s far harder to make a nn out of. On the other hand, I do think that [name]Margot[/name] goes better with [name]Evie[/name]. [name]Faye[/name] and [name]Evie[/name] might be difficult to yell/say together.
