So I’m mostly not that into classic names for my own children, but I sort of really love [name]Frederick[/name]. I think it’s so handsome. I just feel like people will want to automatically call him [name]Fred/name which I don’t really like that much. So:
What do you think of [name]Frederick[/name]? What image comes to mind when you hear it?
What do you think of the nn [name]Rick[/name]? Is it too dated?
Are there any other nicknames you can think of?
Thanks!
(I also think it would be a bit cute because his father would be a Nick (Nicholas) and his father a Dick (Richard) so it would be a sort of way to honor the family line. Thoughts on that?)
I think [name]Rick[/name] takes a borderline cool name and makes it dated and uncool. To be fair, I do have very bad associations with the name [name]Rick[/name] that I feel taint my view on the name.
I do like [name]Frederick[/name], but it isn’t a name I would use for my own son. Strangely enough, I don’t have any one specific image for the name [name]Frederick[/name]. I would automatically go to [name]Fred[/name] or [name]Freddy[/name] for a nickname, but if you don’t like those, what about [name]Red[/name]?
I love [name]Frederick[/name] NN [name]Rick[/name]. It’s on my short list for boys. I don’t know if it’s [name]Nathan[/name] Fillion’s character [name]Rick[/name] ([name]Richard[/name]) Castle on “Castle”, but [name]Rick[/name] has become a very handsome name in my mind.
I just gave birth to a [name]Fred[/name] 12 days ago. Not [name]Frederick[/name] - just [name]Fred[/name]. It is interesting to see people’s reaction but I love it and hip people know it’s retro-cool.
I think it is hard to dictate a NN. I have issues with this and always feel like I am calling people’s kids by the wrong name. I am not a big fan of [name]Rick[/name] and prefer [name]Fred[/name] but if you like it, you could give it a try. There is also [name]Eric[/name] which I do like.
What do you think of [name]Frederick[/name]? What image comes to mind when you hear it?
I’ve grown to quite like [name]Frederick[/name]. I used to really hate it because a former (awful) boss of mine was [name]Frederick[/name] nn [name]Fred[/name]. But I really, really, really love [name]Freddie[/name], and I would never use just [name]Freddie[/name] on its own, so I’ve come to like the classic [name]Frederick[/name] with the cute nn of [name]Freddie[/name]. A lot of the time, when I first think of [name]Frederick[/name], I do think of my former boss, but lately I’ve been thinking of a cute little boy with curly hair, blue eyes, and freckles.
What do you think of the nn [name]Rick[/name]? Is it too dated?
Very dated to me, sorry! Then again, I’m the wrong person to ask about [name]Richard[/name] and its nicknames–with [name]Richards[/name] being my ln, [name]Richard[/name] just doesn’t seem very namey to me, and the nns have never really appealed to me. I have met a little boy named [name]Ricky[/name] recently, though, so I think [name]Rick[/name] could work.
I think the full name [name]Frederick[/name] is handsome and refined. If I had another son, I would consider it as a mn. I am not a fan of [name]Fred[/name], but I do like the nn [name]Rick[/name] So, [name]Frederick[/name], nn [name]Rick[/name] would be great, imo.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Frederick[/name] and would love to use it in full someday! [name]Do[/name] you think it would be possible to avoid nn’s for [name]Frederick[/name]?
The nn [name]Rick[/name] sounds a little dated to me but I think you’ve got a neat family connection ([name]Nick[/name], [name]Dick[/name], [name]Rick[/name]) and that makes it perfect!!
Personally my favorite nn is [name]Fritz[/name] or [name]Freddie[/name]
I dated a [name]Frederick[/name] (really his name was [name]Federico[/name] but he Americanized it). He was slim, artsy, film studies major with nice style. I called him [name]Frederick[/name], but a lot of his friends called him [name]Fred[/name].
