French-Canadian Girl names

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries!

I’m currently re-reading my favourite [name_m]French[/name_m]-Canadian trilogy, [name_u]Les[/name_u] Filles de [name_m]Caleb[/name_m]. It takes place in various towns in Québec from 1892-1946. Here are the girls’ names used in the books :

Émilie
[name_f]Ros[/name_f]ée
Éva
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Marie[/name_f]-[name_u]Ange[/name_u]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Blanche[/name_f]
[name_f]Jeanne[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Rolande[/name_f]
Félicité
Célina
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Berthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Ann[/name_f]ée
[name_f]Antoinette[/name_f]
[name_f]Marie[/name_f]
[name_f]Henriette[/name_f]
Léda
[name_f]Marie[/name_f]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_u]Germaine[/name_u]
Thérèse
[name_f]Aline[/name_f]
Eugénie
Élise
[name_f]Micheline[/name_f]
[name_f]Arlette[/name_f]

Which ones do you like/would use? I personally love Eugénie and [name_f]Blanche[/name_f]. I will post a similar thread on the boys’ names forums.

These are the ones I would use:
Émilie
Éva
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
Félicité
Célina
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Marie[/name_f]
Thérèse
Élise
[name_f]Arlette[/name_f]

The only problem is, I wouldn’t use an accent in a name because sometimes you can’t type an accent on a computer, so it would be too hard for her to use her name :stuck_out_tongue:

The only ones I don’t like are [name_f]Rolande[/name_f], [name_u]Germaine[/name_u] and [name_f]Berthe[/name_f].

I thought of the accents after I posted; I realise now that the links don’t work with accents! Here in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] you can use accents on everything, but I understand it’s not possible everywhere. [name_f]Rolande[/name_f] is probably my least favourite on there. I like [name_f]Berthe[/name_f] though

I love Émilie, Éva, [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], Félicité and Thérèse.

I love [name_m]French[/name_m] names! I just wish accents were a bit more ‘usable’ in English speaking countries.

Freddiethepink : I do too, but I suppose most of these would be usable without the accents! Félicité & [name_f]Ros[/name_f]ée wouldn’t be though… Felicite would just look unfinished and [name_f]Rosee[/name_f] just weird!
