French classic names

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone,

My husband and I are talking a lot about baby names lately (even though I’m not pregnant yet). We agree on three names for each gender. I have french origines and I still have family in [name_f]France[/name_f], so we want a name that can be easily pronounced in both langages. I would like to have your opinion on our favorites.

Boy names : [name_m]Bastien[/name_m], [name_m]Mathias[/name_m] or [name_u]Tristan[/name_u]
Girl names : [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] or [name_f]Marianne[/name_f]

I would also like to know if you think some of these names could go well together for siblings eventually (really curious about that).

Thank you very much!

[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] & [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] or [name_m]Bastien[/name_m] & [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] get my vote!

You have excellent taste! [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] is one of my favorite names, although it is a little dated in the US (and I believe in [name_f]France[/name_f] as well).

And I think any of these would make good sibling names! I especially like [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and [name_m]Bastien[/name_m] as a sibling set, as well as [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] and [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], [name_m]Bastien[/name_m] and [name_m]Mathias[/name_m], or [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].

Thank you both for your answers! I love your combinations for siblings.

Sulpice you’re right, [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] is a bit outdated in [name_f]France[/name_f] and the US, but we live in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and it is more common here

[name_m]Bastien[/name_m] is great! Familiar yet distinctive
[name_m]Mathias[/name_m] has great sound and flow
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] is one of my absolute faves - I love it! Soft and gentle but also strong
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is a classic - I love it, though it is very popular
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] - another favourite! Such a melodious name
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] - not my fave but it’s growing on me, I don’t mind it.

All of these would fit well together, though I especially like [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] together

[name_m]Bastien[/name_m] and [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] stole my heart

All of these would make a good sibling set, but my favourites would have to be [name_m]Mathias[/name_m] and [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] together. Some recommendations…

Boys: [name_m]Alain[/name_m], [name_m]Clement[/name_m] ([name_m]Clay[/name_m]-mont), [name_u]Adrien[/name_u]
Girls: [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

Here are my thoughts:

[name_m]Bastien[/name_m]-I adore this. It’s handsome, strong and a little artsy. I love the cool fresh nn of Bash too.

[name_m]Mathias[/name_m]-This is nice. Is it said Ma-tee-us? I kind of prefer [name_m]Mateo[/name_m], but I guess that wouldn’t be very [name_m]French[/name_m].

[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]-I guess that I didn’t realize that this was a name that works in [name_m]French[/name_m]. I really like it. It’s kind of like [name_m]Bastien[/name_m], in that it’s a little artsy, but still very classic & masculine.

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]-This is fine. It’s a nice name, but super popular.

[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]-I kind of want to like this, but I’m not exactly sure how to say it. I prefer [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]. It’s a bit more straight forward.

[name_f]Marianne[/name_f]-I’m again unclear on pronunciation. [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-in or [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-ann? I really like the former. In which case I’d spell it [name_u]Marian[/name_u]. It’s smart & sweet, w/out being overly frilly.

Any of these girl names work well for sisters, in my opinion. Same w/the brothers. I like [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] best w/all of your boy names.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

Thanks everyone for your feedback, I really appreciate it

Generic : Thanks for your recommendations. I love [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] and [name_u]Adrien[/name_u] as well, but they don’t sound good with our last name, which is why they didn’t end up on our final list.

Michellem: Pronounciation for [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is [name_f]El[/name_f]-o-dee. For [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], it is [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-ann. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is my favorite girl name currently!
