French Irish Names combos? I want to learn about Irish names and need your help!

I am HORRIBLE at combos in general and I am stuck on my list so I am enlisting the help of all you nameberry geniuses! Can you help me come up with any French and Irish baby name combos? Everyone else on the board seems to be great at this and I seriously suck at it plus I know nothing about Irish names and want to learn about them.

I am open to anything you can come up with but here are the names I love (I starred my favs) so maybe you can find something to go off even if it’s just similarity in sound or syllables. Please help me out of my rut and discover new names!

[name]Do[/name] you say Neave like “leave” or “nev?” like never?

In [name]Ireland[/name] they use [name]Niamh[/name], NEEV, rhymes with ‘leave’. Neave is a more phonetic variant. I know a [name]Niamh[/name] and there is a teaching assistant that calls her ‘nee-am-huh’. I think [name]Neve[/name] and [name]Nieve[/name] are the most familiar English variants, but as far as I know [name]Niamh[/name] is the most frequent.

Irish names can be seriously tricky in terms of pronunciation, they are usually best off as middle names, or you can respell them as with [name]Niamh[/name]/[name]Neve[/name].
Béatrice [name]Saoirse[/name] (sair-sha, sear-sha or sir-sha)
Geneviève [name]Ailis[/name] (ay-lish)
[name]Colombe[/name] [name]Aoibhe[/name] ([name]Eva[/name], sometime Ayva)
[name]Colombe[/name] [name]Aoibhinn[/name] (Ee-vin, sometimes Ayvin)
[name]El[/name]éonore [name]Aisling[/name] (ash-lin, ash-ling)
I like Irish names because of the spellings, though, [name]Saoirse[/name] wouldn’t be as pretty if it were Sairsha. Seirsia or Seartia might work.

@amberdaydream, those are beautiful as well! I am pretty clueless on Irish names and mispronunciation is one of my fears, I dont want to come up with a name I love only to find out Im saying “sa orsa” or something like that though in this case I think [name]Saoirse[/name] [name]Ronan[/name] has made the name more accessable. I’m finding that I have a hard time learning how to spell them when I add them to my list

Ya as stated Neave is the phonetic version, I chose the phonetic spelling because I find it more appealing with the French names (visually). The French names are already “different” than what we are used to seeing here and mixing it with the true Irish spelling is a bit all over the place. The Irish spellings of these names are all in the links I provided. Pronunciation too

And yes, Neave is like leave with an N.

I’m happy to see any combo of French Irish names just giving the list as some inspiration and so far you guys have introduced me to some beautiful names I’ve never heard or considered

I love Irish names, some of my favourite are

[name]Aoife[/name] (ee-fa)
[name]Isolde[/name] (ih-zohl-duh/ih-zold) - strictly speaking this is a Welsh name (Also [name]Iseult[/name]/[name]Yseult[/name] which are Irish)
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Siobhan[/name] (shi-vawn)
[name]Sinead[/name]
[name]Roisin[/name] ([name]Ro[/name]-sheen
[name]Nola[/name]
[name]Ciara[/name] (like [name]Keira[/name])
[name]Orla[/name]
Àine

[name]How[/name] do you prn Àine? I’m not sure how accents work on Irish names but my guess is that it sounds like “ain’t”. Is this right? I’m especially liking the boys names that have been listed and feel more comfortable with them and prn issues but the girls names are so pretty.

sorry its ”ine pronounced Awn-ye like [name]Anya[/name]

My birth name is [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] being [name_m]French[/name_m] and [name_f]Marie[/name_f] being Irish. My whole family of my dads side is french going back to the 1500’s and my Mom’s is both British and Irish. All of my childrens names will be [name_m]French[/name_m] or Irish or be my spouses ethnicity. Heres a list of some of my favorite combinations right now.

Acadié-Thuaidh (F/M) - Acadié (A-[name_u]Kay[/name_u]-[name_f]Dee[/name_f]) is what the [name_m]French[/name_m] called [name_f]Acadia[/name_f], the land in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] in which British deported the Acadians from, and Thuaidh (Tho-Ai-[name_f]Dee[/name_f]) is Irish for Northern. The Brits took over Northern [name_f]Ireland[/name_f].

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]-[name_f]Gladys[/name_f] [name_f]Lourdes[/name_f] (F) - [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] ([name_f]Ada[/name_f] Laid) is a very french name and my Mamére (Grandmére’s) middle name. [name_f]Gladys[/name_f]-[name_f]Marie[/name_f] is my [name_f]Nana[/name_f]'s name although she goes by [name_f]Marie[/name_f] now. [name_f]Gladys[/name_f] is pronouced like [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] but [name_f]Gladis[/name_f]. [name_f]Lourdes[/name_f] (Pronouced Lords) is a place in france. I find it a beautiful name, and it has a religious meaning. (Irish Catholics)

[name_f]Niamh[/name_f]-Hélène / [name_f]Niamh[/name_f]-Thérèse (F) - [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] (Neeve) is a popular Irish name so people wont mix up her name as often, and Hélène (Hell-Lean) and Thérèse (The begginning is like you are going to say Terror isnt of Turr like “[name_f]Theresa[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Therese[/name_f]” so its Tear-[name_u]Reese[/name_u]) are both well known french names. With a name like this people will see the Irish and [name_m]French[/name_m] in her name.

I dont have as many Irish names other than Caera (Key R [name_m]Ah[/name_m]), but I will list some french names.

Female:

Acadié-[name_f]Isobel[/name_f]
