Does anyone else have this problem? It worries me that when the day comes to name a child, whatever name I pick, I’ll wish I had chosen something different 6 months later. I think “name regret” would be a terrible thing to go through.
As of right now, my tastes change constantly. I know it’s normal to have your favorites change, that’s not what I mean. I have gone from liking long, frilly, girly names with multiple nickname options like [name]Annabel[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Felicity[/name], [name]Magnolia[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], etc… to shorter, spunkier, edgier names with very little or zero nickname options like, [name]Tess[/name], [name]Sadie[/name], [name]Mollie[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Jane[/name], [name]June[/name], [name]Kate[/name], [name]Mila[/name], [name]Mira[/name], [name]Margot[/name], [name]Joss[/name], [name]Liv[/name], etc… And now I’ve even started liking a few “trendy” names! [name]Blakely[/name] is one of them, along with [name]Tenley[/name], Halyn, [name]Makenna[/name], etc… what’s wrong with me?!
I think a lot of people have eclectic tastes.
The good news is that 1) you’ll have to live with the name you pick for quite a while before it’s actually settled on, it’s doubtful you’ll make a last minute snap decision. So that will weed out the names that sound good to you but wouldn’t work in real life.
There’s a big difference between liking a name and using a name. There are hundreds of names I adore, but only a few I can imagine saying a dozen times a day in every tone of voice for the rest of my life.
Your partner and others will have a lot of opinions that I’m sure will sway your decision. So either way, it won’t be “all your fault”
I have a pretty solid small list of names I’d ‘actually’ use. I have a much larger list that I adore but I can only imagine on characters or imaginary children.
I don’t think you need to worry. I’m sure your stressing right now to find “the perfect name”.
My suggestions are to make a list, look at it every day, say them out loud, call your baby belly each name for a day or two to see how it feels coming out of your mouth.
I think you’ll find by your due date you’ll have narrowed your list. I also suggest going into your delivery room with no more than 5 names per sex. It’s true that seeing your baby can help you name her. Good [name]Luck[/name], and try not to worry to much. Any name you give her will be the “perfect name” because you gave it to her with love.
