Freshen Up Leslie

Recently, I’ve had such a crush on Leslie for a girl! Yes, it does remind me of [name_f]Amy[/name_f] Poehler’s [name_u]Parks[/name_u] & Rec character but honstley I think that’s a good association.

I can totally see how it feels dated but I’ve found myself drawn to it. I love spunky girls names & for me Leslie is teetering on the list of names like Eliza, Annika, Margot, etc.

What do y’all think? What MN ideas might you suggest?

I love [name_u]Leslie[/name_u]! I prefer the less-lee pronunciation. There was actually a little girl named [name_u]Leslie[/name_u] at my daughter’s Brazilian jiujitsu class for a while, and it was really charming on her. I could see sister names like [name_u]Blythe[/name_u], [name_f]Gillian[/name_f], [name_u]Greer[/name_u], [name_u]Afton[/name_u], [name_u]Honor[/name_u], Adair…I think of it more in the preppy surname category, I guess.

I’ve only heard it pronounced this way - I’m curious what other pronunciations there are!

Oh, I forgot middle names! I love the idea of [name_u]Leslie[/name_u] with something kind of flowery:

[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Camellia[/name_f]
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f]
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Alastrina[/name_f]
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Illyria[/name_f]
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]

I’ve also heard lez-lee. I want to say that’s the pronunciation when it’s used as a masculine name, and less-lee is the feminine pronunciation, but I might be making that up

Ahh that makes sense! I have a cousin named Leslie and people use both pronunciations, so I guess I didn’t see the difference at first. Saying it out loud I can see that they’re different though.

It could be more or less noticeable depending on accent for sure. I find it pretty with the S- sound, less so with the Z- sound.

It’s not my favorite–associations and generational use and whatnot–but I can see the appeal it would have for someone. I think [name_u]Lindsay[/name_u] was kind of a modernization of it for my generation, and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] would be something close to your other favorites.

But we can have fun freshening up [name_u]Leslie[/name_u]! I like [name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Ada[/name_f] or [name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f].

.

I think the spelling [name_u]Lesley[/name_u] helps immensely! Gives it some of the modern flair of [name_u]Presley[/name_u], while still keeping the classic pronunciation!

[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] is sweet.

I can see [name_u]Leslie[/name_u] to the similar Lesiel, [name_f]Leela[/name_f] if you want a different take on the name

I knew a few Leslies growing up! Its sweet. Reminds me of [name_f]Emily[/name_f] a bit.

[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Savannah[/name_f]

I really like it for both boys and girls and I’m glad to see there are others who do too, it’s definitely underappreciated! It is a bit dated but I think it’s due for a comeback, and it’s by no means unusable because of that imo.

Perhaps [name_f]Liesel[/name_f]?

It’s my name and I love it.
I also like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] too.
I like [name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Faye[/name_f].
And I say it with a Z because I love Z sounds.

[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_u]Hazel[/name_u]
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Dixie[/name_f]
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_f]Jolie[/name_f]
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] [name_u]Penny[/name_u]

I like the name [name_u]Leslie[/name_u] and I like this spelling. Where I’m from, I normally hear it pronounced Less-Lee instead of Lez- [name_u]Lee[/name_u]. I do find it a bit dated if I’m being honest but I’d rather hear of a baby [name_u]Leslie[/name_u] than some other trendy names, so I still think it is usable. The only name I can think of that has maybe a fresher sound is [name_f]Alessia[/name_f], but I don’t think [name_u]Leslie[/name_u] would be a nickname for that obviously. Sorry, I can’t think of any other name to freshen up [name_u]Leslie[/name_u].

I always say LEZ-lee (LEHZ-lee).

[name_u]Leslie[/name_u], [name_u]Avery[/name_u] / [name_f]Averie[/name_f], [name_u]Blaire[/name_u] all have similar vibes to me.
